i've had the salty tip of my tounge for about two days. I'm also on a high protein diet, smoke and drink a lot of diet soda. I also take a suppliment everyday. I'm going to try cutting out the diet soda and get rid of the smoking...If any of this helps, I'll post again.

I also have a salty taste in my mouth. More like a pillar of salt on my tongue... I started tasting salt about 2 weeks ago. I have been to my doctor who ran blood test, which came back with no signs of anything abnormal. He has me taking Prilosec for a week to start to rule out causes. I don't beleive it has anything to do with acid in my stomach. He said if this didn't work, he was going to give me some antibiotics to kill any infections. At this point it is trail by error medicine... a guessing game. Could this be invironmental. I live in an eastern suburb of Rochester, NY.

I have noticed this over the past few days. I know what cause mine. I rinsed an abnormally long time with some listerine whitening mouth wash. It started to burn my tongue like it does the sides of your mouth. I didnt think nothing of it until a few days had passed and I was still tasting salt. About 5 days have gone by and the taste is still there. I can still taste food but I feel the need to continously drink water to alleviate it.

I am still having my salty mouth. As I mentioned earlier I am taking supplements, and one of those supplements is a fish oil pill. I wonder if it is mercury poisoning. Isn't that common in fish?

I also had a salty taste in my mouth. Everything I ate or drank tasted like salt, also. I told my "special someone" I was going to the doctor to find out why. Within two days, the salty taste started to subside and was gone in a week. I never did see the doctor - as if a doctor would know anything. I believe I was being poisoned, and that it was from a clear liquid put in my food. If you have this problem, quit eating with your normal people and eat alone in restaurants for a couple of weeks. If your problem goes away, well.....

Hi, I also have the salty taste in my mouth that will not go away. It started when I started taking MSM, which is micro something sulfur. I
think this is the problem and stopped taking it a couple of weeks ago. I hope the salty taste eventually goes away. If not. It was not the MSM
(which is, by the way, in many joint supplements).
Good Luck everyone.

Hi I am also 57 and have the salty taste in my mouth. I think it may be due to menopause or thyroid problems as when thyroid is low you store salt.

a salty taste in the mouth is caused by many problem which a few are serious... pancreas problems, blood pressure, heart problems, high calcium levels in the blood..... all of these problems can also link to one another leading to all of these and worse. theres 1 thing you can do and thats just keep going back to the doc's.

I too have salty lips, and i always attributed it to my running (I run a long way on sundays)...

But it's not like i'm dehydrated...I'll drink more water than usual next time (it usually goes away).

And i don't think anyone is trying to poison me (or anyone)

I also have the same thing, watery SALTY taste in mouth. It's non stop and the dr. looked at me like I was crazy. She had no clue. Told me it could possibly be liver disease. That was real nice to hear. I'm 35, (not that I couldn't get it) but I sure didn't want to hear that. If she didn't have a clue then say so!! Anyone get any answers?? It's driving me nuts.

I've also been experiencing the salty taste in my mouth for the last week and a half. After reading all of these posts I can maybe see why. I have also started drinking fish oil pills about two weeks ago. I see another poster also mentioned that.

I am also a heavy coffee drinker and a smoker.

I'm going to cut down on the coffee and stop drinking the pills. Will also start drinking more water. If the taste goes away then I will let you guys know.

I have had this salty taste for 8 days now. Had a bad cough, pnuemonia and was in hospital on IV's (Fluids, antibiotics, steroids) for a week. 6 days into hospital stay started with salt taste. (I agree with other post - tastes like a whole shaker of salt on my tounge). Complained about this but was released as pnuemonia resolved. 2 days later in emergency room, extremely weak and listless. Sent home - no diagnosis. 2 days later back in emergency room; admitted (at my insistence). IV Fluids, antibiotics, steroids again. Better in 2 days. Now home, feeling better but still have salty taste. it is OVERWHELMING. Going to keep researching - perhaps was meds?

Just wanted to share what happened to me. I suddenly developed a salty taste in my mouth, as well as everything tasting salty. It was awful. I was taking the homeopath arsenicum album and this caused it. It went away after several days and my taste is the best it has ever been. Food tastes better than it did prior to the event. Wonder if this homeopath might help people with salty taste????
