I need help! My dog is a little on the fat side, and I am trying to make her lose weight. It's just that dog diets are uncharted territory for me, and I feel totally lost! What is the best diet for dogs? What foods do you recommend? Do I need to be buying dog diet food, or are there any other ways to go about this?

Hi, I know how you feel. I have had a dog for 13 years now and he has gone through periods of being on the fluffy side as well. I see diet dog foods when I go and buy his food, but I haven't bought that once. What I normally do is cut out his snacks, give him less of the food I give him normally (don't starve him, just stop over-feeding your dog!), and I try and get out the house more with my dog and take him on really long walks. I am sure he will lose weight in no time if you do that, and have fun while he's at it!

Oh, cheers! Those tips were really helpful! I am sure some more exercise would do him some good, and I will try and work on that! I love taking my dog out, so I think we can do some long walks around town. When you say to give my dog less food, can you give any indication about what amounts? Do you weight the food you give, or do you have any idea about the calorie intake?

Keep your dog away from table foods no snacks and please make sure that you dont give your dog pork because if a dog is given to much pork then this will shut down your dogs pancreus and cause the dog to become temparly diabetic I almost lost my dog to it. Okay back on topic cut out snacks the food you are giving her is probly fine but just try and play with her more start walks play fetch take her swimming most dogs love swimming.
