I am 18 years old and I got a yeast infection from what I assume was the antibiotics I just finished. I had never had a yeast infection before but I bought monistat 1(please don't use this, at least go for the 7 day monistat) for a quick fix. My vagina and vulva were in so much pain and felt swollen and when I peed it burned like hell. I didn't know this was abnormal for yeast infection because like I said it was my first one. I looked with mirror and light and to my horror I saw my whole vaginal area was swollen and I had two circle sores on the right side of my vulva and one right on the skin under my vaginal opening. They did not look like herpes blisters or sores at all they were flesh colored or maybe a little more red than the surrounding skin. I was completely freaking out and of course googled what it meant obsessively and I found this page. It was the only page that said I could have something other than herpes. I don't have any symptoms of herpes besides the sores. I have been with my boyfriend for two years and we have been having unprotected sex for those two years and we have never been unfaithful to each other, and I should have gotten herpes way earlier if that's what it was. I went to the doctor today and told her I think I had an allergic reaction to monistat creme she said reactions to monistat are very common and can have a number of bad side effects. She inspected the sores and said it did not look or behave like herpes when she swabbed it. There was no puss, no leakage, and no crusting over of the sores. It looks as if someone just removed the top layer of my skin in a circle shape, the sores are a little smaller than the eraser on top of a pencil. My doctor said she believes I'm right and it's just a really bad side effect to monistat. I was prescribed an oral tablet to get rid of the yeast infection and a steroid cream for the sores and swelling. She also recommend taking baths in Epsom salt. She did swab the sores to test for herpes and I should get my results back in the next few days. I never thought i would post on this website but the relief I found by reading all your stories that had a happy ending lifted my spirit. I understand that having herpes is not the end of the world but I have only had sex with him and I'm only 18 I don't think I could handle that news. I will post again with my result. Thank you all for sharing your stories.

Did you find a way to cope?
Thanks

Oh my goodness I am so happy I found this thread. Months ago I got an STD screen and herpes was negative, but I'm having a hard time ruling it out because of these symptoms! I had my period last week, and I was wearing these fragranced pads. I think that set off an initial yeast infection, including my birth control. I thought that it was just general irritation from the pads, so last Saturday I had sex with my boyfriend. He's always a little rough, and very well endowed and my birth control makes me a little dryer than I should be. I'm not really concerned when I get a little scrape or two. Well on Sunday, I was wearing some restricting shorts, and I don't know why I ignored it, but it was just very sore. I guess I figured it was just sore from sex. Well on Sunday night, it's starting to hurt really bad to pee, so I figured it was a UTI or a yeast infection. Monday comes around, and it's painful and uncomfortable. I laid around all day. I checked down there and just saw small little cuts and figured it was from sex. Tuesday comes around and I go to the doctor, because I take pictures with flash so I could really see what was happening down there and there's all these little (perfectly described as) octopus tentacle looking lesions. They're not clumped together or raised like a lot of herpes pictures. I'm a little swollen and irritated looking. There's also some larger lesions that are crusted over trying to heal. It doesn't burn or anything, it's only excruciating when I have to pee. It itches for awhile and it stops for awhile. My doctor said that my pictures looked more like a yeast infection but also looks a bit like herpes because the creamy white discharge was present but the lesions aren't very common in a yeast infection. I took Monistat 3 on Monday and I didn't like the cream it came with but the ovule I think does it's job. She prescribed me a yeast infection medication for 5 days and now fast forward to today, Wednesday, and it's feeling a little better. It seems more crusty due to healing and the little octopus tentacle lesions seem to be mostly gone. It still burns to shower with it because I have a lot of extra skin in that area, so some of the lesions hide. It hurts less with cool water or a cool napkin. By the way, one of the best ways to relieve the burning after urination is to just get a wet paper towel and hold it for about 30 seconds. All day today I've just been laying in bed, as yesterday and Monday too. I'm beyond ready for this to be over with, as the yeast infection medication seems to be working quickly. I just want to be able to pee without wanting to cry :( I go to the Internet looking for symptoms to figure out what's wrong but it's so hard when everything points to herpes. This is the only site I've found where many women are suffering the same awful yeast infection. Every other site says it's herpes. Basically, I was in tears at the thought that I could have herpes because I didn't know what that could mean for my future and for my relationship. I was so relieved to find that it could just be a yeast infection. Really the only thing convincing me that it's yeast is the last weeks careless conditions down there, and the fact that the medicine seems to be working. I'm still just nervous of the small chance of it being herpes. My partner and I were both tested at the beginning of our relationship, after we had already been sexually active and neither of us had anything. I was however diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis and a yeast infection, so I feel I am prone to minor inconveniences. This one just got much worse. Good luck to all with this issue, I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.
