Hey, sorry to hear your news. I do not know how long herpes outbreaks last for exactly but from what i remember reading is that they can last several weeks. Try and ask your doctor for some topical numbing gel and hopefully that would give you some relief. Hope you get better soon!
Thank you SO much for posting this. I am 22 years old and am literally going through the same thing right now. I have been with my boyfriend for a year who is a pharmacist, so he's pretty good about detecting illnesses and deals with people who have herpes on a regular basis. Before him I had one previous boyfriend who I know through many friends and I sincerely did not think had any STD's, and if he did--he would have told me, or one of my friends would have.
On Wednesday of this month I thought I had a UTI-burning sensation etc but I was also itchy and had a bit of discharge and "leaking"so I was really shocked to find that I had a yeast infection. I calmed my gyno and gave her my symptoms and she told me to get monistat.
the next day(thursday) I noticed small white sores around my vulva. They appeared to be causing my itch and discomfort and even topical cream wouldn't make them go away. After a very sleepless night I decided to make an emergency doctors appointment with a clinic downtown. I had EXCRUCIATING PAIN during urination, upon sitting, and sometimes even just walking down the street. I consider myself pretty tough, but I have never been this agitated and upset. I feel like if this goes on for another week I might actually die-and it's only day three!
Today I went to the clinic and got a blood test, urin test, and a culture to check for herpes (which was SO painful!) The doctor did not make me feel that great though-she said it was either a very extreme case of a yeast infection or herpes. Naturally, I started bawling my eyes out on the spot thinking of how my life was going to change so much and racking my brain through when this could have happened.
But things just didn't add up.
My last two partners in the last two years were pretty clean people-college students with nice families and regular doctors appointments. I also am friends with my ex boyfriends current girlfriend, and I feel as though she would have told me or he would have told me if they had a herpes outbreak. I have only had a few partners and while I suppose I could have been MORE careful, it just didn't seem like NOW was a logical time for this to be happening. I also wasn't experiencing a fever which is a symptom of herpes outbreak. IN fact, other than the sores and swollen vagina I feel totally normal.
I'm getting my results back next week (my birthday-yay haha), and I am PRAYING that my intuition is correct. For my treatment i recieved an over the counter topical gel, a once taken tablet for the yeast infection and (dun dun dun) some medicine typically used for people with herpes virus. My doctor said that it was just a precaution, and at that particular clinic they have to treat all vaginal sores and ulsers like herpes.
Hearing your story makes me feel so much better. I am PRAYING that this thing clears up ASAP and that the doctor was just being extra cautious-she wasn't a GYNO, I can't visit my gyno because I am away at college across the country.
Please let me know if you had any other interesting symptoms or how fast after taking the yeast medication your sores started to heal? I'm going to be living a very stressful life for the next 5-7 days.
I had the same experience today! I thought I had a light UTI so I called my gyno (back in seattle, I live in new york temporarily for school) and she said it sounded like a typical UTI. In a few hours, I felt like I was having discharge and leaking. I checked it out and I saw some white discharge that really shouldn't have been there, and I assumed I had a yeast infection. I got a mirror and looked closer and saw a small white bump on the inside of my vulva and FREAKED OUT. I am terrified of STDs and have had the same partner for a year who has shown NO symptoms and is in residency to become a doctor, so i figured I should be safe with a doctor right?? I'm 21 and this has NEVER happened to me before. I've never even had a bad period. I went to the clinic because the pain was getting unbearable. I couldn't sleep at night either, although I did notice that when I got up and walked around and went to work I felt BETTER, probably because I was distracted. After sleeping for about two hours I called the nearest women's clinic in manhattan and got on the subway in the am. Every bump felt like the end of the world and of course, no men decided to give up their seat for me (if only they knew!) I got to the clinic and explained that I think I had a really really serious yeast infection, based upon my online research. I had never even THOUGHT about the posibility of having herpes. In the last two years I have had two boyfriends, both of which I am still in contact with and I just have to believe that they would have told me. Not to mention I'm in a sorority and to put it crudely---this community is SMALL, and if they would have given herpes to one of my friends then they would have CERTAINLY told me. I don't like my exes and I know boys aren't perfect...but I just can't see them giving me herpes knowingly, especially with one of them in medical school. So I racked my brain for anything and I got an OTC medication for yeast infection. It was a sapository which on the first day was fine, but after a while HURT LIKE A BIOTCH!. I put the cream on more than twice a day because I couldn't take the pain anymore. I feel like this is never ending and it's only been three days. I went to the clinic today and saw a doctor, not a GYNO (I think that's important) to basically green light me for some medication to make these bumps and rash go away and she totally freaked me out. She looked at me and told me that she was going to put me on meds for yeast infection and that I had high white blood cells in my pee-which is a sign of a yeast infection. Then she told me that she was putting me on VALTREX FOR HERPES. I was in such shock I actually started bawling in the middle of the office saying "Omg omg omg no". I have never been so embarassed in my life. I am STILL SHOCKED as I sit here. She told me that it's not confirmed they are herpes, but that every vaginal blister has to be treated and tested as herpes as a precaution, which I think is probably a policy of the public clinic. I really wish I could have seen my own doctor, because as I frantically explained to the doctor that it couldn't be herpes-that my partner didn't have any symptoms and I was not the type to sleep around-I could tell on her face that she had seen way too many young girls in there to even begin to believe me. I also think that seeing a gyno would have been better, because she just sort of looked at my vagina and said that if there are sores she has to classify it as herpes just in case. I walked to the pharmacist in sunglasses SOBBING and humiliated. The card she gave me so joyfully read that herpes isn't curable and that I can spread it to my baby during childbirth (i'm not pregnant, but have always DREAMED of having a big family). I got my perscription and took the train home and actualyl thought for a single second about jumping in front of the tracks-not really...but kind of. I don't know anyone with herpes, I don't know what it is, all i know is that people think it's GROSS. I thought that nobody was going to love me, nobody was going to marry me--and the underlying thought in the back of my mind was that maybe I had infected innocent people?? IT was too much to bear. I also couldn't help but wonder if my boyfriend had cheated on me. The thought had never crossed my mind but for this to come out of nowhere? I can't imagine he would be so stupid as to cheat without a condom but hey, boys are dumb you never know. The doc told me that a herpes infection can be dormint and not show itself for several years and be brought upon my a weak immune sytem or stress. But that didn't make sense. I'm a college student under TONS of stress for four years and who eats basically NOTHING, and if I do it's ramen noodles. Why wouldn't the virus have shown itself during one of my many flus or sicknesses? I also had a rare skin disease as a child called shingles which isn't common and remains dormant in the body for the rest of ones' life. I thought if maybe somehow this had resurfaced? OR caused the infection? Either way, the topical cream from the store seemed to sort of help matters, when I inserted it it gave me relief and when I applied it topically it did calm the burning. The doctor had me so convinced I have herpes I literally started planning out the rest of my life-I contemplated joining a convent haha I wont get the results until next week and who knows what will happen-at least it's not HIV or cancer! But this thread has shown me that it is important to TRUST YOUR GUT. I knew that there was no real chance I could have herpes--after all, I know my partners better than anyone-and I didn't have a fever or naseau like the symptoms suggest. I'm fairly certain I have some kind of infection, whether it's BV or something else, I am going to take the yeast infection medicince and the valtrex like the doctor told me and PRAY that everything is ok. Thank all of you for the posts it has really really helped.
I used lidocaine hydrochloride jelly, 2%, and desitin ointment mixed together on my finger and rubbed it on and around the sore area. INSTANT relief! No pain when peeing! Last at least 3-4 hrs! Just reapply when needed! Used dial antibacterial liquid soap to wash area in shower! Healed in a few days!

I'm 20 and basically having the same problems. I've been dealing with a pretty persistent stomach virus and a lot of diarrhea. A few days ago I noticed three bumps that felt like ingrown hair bumps on one side of my labia, and the next day they were open sores. So I went to the doctor yesterday and she tells me it looks like herpes. I've only ever had oral sex before with one guy from high school who I contacted last night and he told me he's never had cold sores or anything like that. I told him he should get tested just in case. I don't know what to do. On top of all that I have a yeast infection that I think might have been caused by the bacteria from my diarrhea.
I hear that the first herpes outbreak is supposed to be the worst with blisters and sores all over, along with flu-like symptoms. But aside from a headache that I think came from dehydration due to the diarrhea, I haven't had any flu-like symptoms. And while these sores hurt pretty bad, I would have expected them to be worse if it was herpes.
So I was given an ointment (I can't remember the name) and Valtrex, which are both for herpes infections. I was also given a pill for the yeast infection. And I have to wait now for the results to come back regarding the herpes. I'm just terrified, and I feel like there's no hope for me. This just feels like a really awful nightmare.
U need to keep that area very dry, and before u urinate put some vaseline on the infected area do not wear thongs or anything that hugs that area tightly. wear underwear that are cotton and white, U may have to go and buy some bigger underwear.do not rub the area when u urinate pat dry. get some baby wipes to use after u bathroom use. The key is staying dry, should be better in two days and gone about 6
It blows me away just how many women have been & are affected by this. Monday, I received oral from my husband. He'd shaved off his facial hair a few days prior to this & was stubby, not so much to the eyes, but the touch. After kissing I just knew the next morning that I was going to have carpet burn look around my mouth & face. Turns out I didn't, but it was very raw feeling & felt like it. Tuesday, I was having discomfort & discovered some bumps & what appeared to be pimples. As the days progressed so did they. I immediately set forth to doctor myself as I didn't know what they were or what was going on. I went through powder, peroxide, salt in hot bath water, alcohol, tea tree oil, neosporin, hydrocortisone cream, even orajel to help with the pain. At the start I didn't have pain with urination except from the urine hitting the lesions. Then I started having pain just from the urine coming out & that started going up higher within. After all the screaming & hair-pulling, my husband took me to the ER yesterday. The doctor looked at me as if I was nuts but examined me. The did do a urinalysis which I have no idea how it came back, but no bloodwork. Finally he prescribed me Septra DS 800/160. I asked him how I should treat it as he said some of my methods had done more damage than good. I wanted something to heal it & numb the pain. He said he didn't know that all he could do is prescribe me some weak pain pills. It was all that I could do not to come unglued. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. Now I feel like I have the flu, & last night started running fever. I am completely coming undone. One says do this, the other that. One thing I did start doing today is taking Zinc tablets. While growing up I had many bouts with cancer sores, later diagnosed with epilepsy & often chewed up my tongue & inside of my cheeks. A doctor told me to take that daily keeping a consistent level in my system & I shouldn't get cancer sore & that I would have quicker healing when I did a jaws # on my tongue. I was thinking last night that both areas of the body are moist, dark & warm. So I'm hoping this will help as well. I didn't get a diagnosis just a if that doesn't knock it out we'll have to do testing. How assuring! Great bedside manner! I have also decided that it would be priceless to have a catheter during this crisis as it feels a major burn when urinating & as if someone is ripping out my insides. The pain doesn't immediately go away. 30 minutes later I'm still dealing with the pain from that. Sitting up is more painful & even to cough or sneeze causes a greater pain. In this day & age I don't know why we can't have better answers. I've been debating whether or not this is a yeast infection along with a uti. At the top its like ingrown hairs that are irritated & haven't come out. All I know is I have never suffered so much pain & distress. Trying to decide if I should use a yeast cream as well. During several searches, I also came across stuff about yogurt. I had always heard something about eating plain yogurt but came across that it works better if dipped on a tampon & inserted for 2 hours or overnight while sleeping 1 or 2 times a day. Has anyone else heard of this?
I had the same symptoms as you ladies. I was miserable! First I had a uti after sex which seem to be more common these days. After I took antibiotics I already had from my last uti to clear the uti it went away a few days following I got a yeast infection. So I went to the dollar store and got a 3 day treatment. I inserted the treatment into my vagina but did not use the topical cream. After the third day it seems as all of my yeast infection symptoms were disappearing with the exception of a little irritability on my vaginal lips so before bed I decided to give the topical cream a try. BIG mistake!! I also decided to bath with my regular (soap) Irish Spring. Another BIG mistake!!! I woke the next morning and the right side of my vagina was swollen beyond belief. IDK if I had an allergic reaction but the skin was rubbed raw in some spots making it burn when I urinated. Well I did tons of research. The only thing for instant relief that worked was sitting in a small tub of warm water with SEA SALT added for 20 minutes. I read Epsom salt may work as well. I purchased regular sea salt from the grocery store because they did not have regular iodine sea salt. BUT i swear it works!! The swelling went down a lot immediately after & irritability calmed. Also DO NOT use soap down there when you wash. For the next few days I avoided washing that area and soaked in sea salt and warm water every morning and night. I did end up going to the doctor to be safe. He ran test everything came back negative and he told me I just had traces of bacteria in my vagina which was the uti trying to come back. He gave me two antibiotics and two doses of diflucan in case the yeast infection came back from the antibiotics. I took them for about three days until I was all the way back to normal with no symptoms whatsoever. I didnt need the diflucan. I would recommend the sea salt bath to everyone!!! IT WORKS TRUST ME I WAS MISERABLE!! GOOD LUCK LADIES. Also go to the doctor...!
Also these symptoms came about when I had sex with my girlfriend! She gave me oral sex, fingered me, and we used a toy. I always make sure sanitizes everything before she touches me including her hands so idk what brought this about. I am making a doctors appointment to see why this repeatedly happens to me. I have been researching but the only thing that it could have been was me not using the bathroom afterwards or before. But I am not totally sure.
The antibiotics I was prescribed were Ciprofloxacn 500MG and Metronidazol 500MG.
LOL YES... IM SEARCHING TRYING TO IGURE OUT IF EPSOM SALT BATHS AND HRDROCORTISONE WILL WORK
