I went to a wonderful doctor in Austin for my procedure. I had a surgical and I was 7 weeks gone. The state is trying to close most abortion providers with their new Trap bill and I'm hoping that it doesn't pass so my doctor can stay in business. The South has gotten very anti-choice and it makes me want to move away! The establishment in Austin, TX is called International Healthcare Solutions. I highly recommend anyone needing an abortion in the Austin area to go through them. The entire staff was friendly, understanding, and very pro-choice and women's rights.
I arrived the day before for an ultrasound. I had to fill out a lot of paperwork. The appointment altogether only took a couple of hours. In Texas there is a 24 hour wait for the procedure. It is distressing to have to wait 24 hours. It is extremely undue stress, to be honest. They were all kind and professional. No protestors that day.
The following day I came back after the 24 hour wait. They had me pay for the procedure and prepare. I had to answer questions and was informed about the procedure. They asked me about birth control plans and why I was terminating the preg and etc.
I was a bit scared of the procedure. I was given twilight sedation. I felt loopy and out of it during the procedure. It basically makes you feel a bit high. It did hurt but only for about a minute. It only lasted about 10 minutes. That second day I was there about two hours. Again, no protestors. My experience was positive. After the procedure, I experienced cramping for several days afterward and I used Advil to manage the pain. It wasn't bad, it was like menstrual cramps. I bled for about 7 days afterward, like a medium flow.
I know I made the right choice for my life and the lives of my other children. I was more angry that I had gotten pregnant despite using birth control. My husband and I had been very safe for over 11 years. We had 2 children and wanted no more. This was our first oopsie in 11 years. We did the right thing for me, him, and our children. I'm a bit older now and certainly not in prime health to be raising a baby or to be pregnant. I just knew I couldn't do it again. I would like to get my tubes tied or a hysterectomy when we have insurance. We have no insurance at all right now. I would be the first to sign up for a tubal ligation if I could afford it. Good luck ladies.
