I was advised to take digestive enzymes with meals, high in lipase for fat digestion, after my surgery, and have not had any issues with pain or diarrhea. The lipase assists the pancreas in fat digestion.

I had some weight to lose, and gradually (about 5 lbs. a month) lost until I was at my target weight.

I am glad I had my GB removed. I had gallstones and the pain woke me regularly at night, it was unbearable.

I had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago...I do not have weight gain issues, although I have other complications. I too have diarrhea BADLY...every morning about 3-4 times within an hour of waking up, my food also "rushes" through my system forcing me to find a bathroom ASAP after I eat. AVOID FAT AND RICH FOODS... THIS WORSENS THE RIGHT SIDE PAINS, AND LOOSE STOOLS. Also, I take 2 GAS-X pills everymorning now, this helps with gas and bloating. I also take a vegetable/fruit vitamin, once a day, that has 3 full servings of each in it...this helps allow stools to be more formed.

Had my gallbladder removed 2 years ago. Do not have diarahea, have trouble with constipation. I had this problem before the removal. I take
Alli which is a diet pill, but I found was great for keeping me regular.
The PROBLEM I am having is weight gain. I have been doing aerobics for an hour a day, 6 days a week and/or weight training with a trainer, watching what I eat, but I CANNOT get the inches or weight off. I feel they only way I am going to loose the weight is to starve, eat 800 - 1000 calories a day. Anyone have a solution.

I had my GB removed due to gall stones. I was 18 when I had the surgery. Before having the surgery I was a healthy 120lbs for my 5'3" frame. Shortly after my surgery I quickly gained 30 lbs, even though my diet did not significantly change. I'm 20 years old and I'm miserable with my body. I'm desperate. Can anyone relate??

since i had my gallbladder out in September 08, I have 3-4 soft bowel movements/diarrhea every day. They're mucousy, stinky and grosser than normal. I get abdominal pains before I have to go, and the need is sudden and urgent. I'm also gassier. I've also gained about 20 pounds since September. If I had known what a disaster having my GB would be, I never would have done it.

I am 18 and just had my gallbladder removed three weeks ago. I too am experiencing diarrhea soon after eating fatty and rich foods. However, I'm losing a significant amount of weight. I don't understand how anyone could gain weight if any fatty and rich foods go straight through you. Weird how different people's body's react.

Sad but reassuring that others have gained weight, I had given up smoking pre surgery and expanded two dress sizes but after surgery I feel like I am in a blubber suit even though I eat carefully it is horrible going to the loo stinks and the smell of gaz is just so awful I dread being with people in the morning if anyone had told me I would NOT have had it out whatever the pain any one any ideas other than putting myself out of this misery

:-) HI. WELL WHOT CAN I SAY. I HAD MY G/B REMOVED BACK IN FEB 2009. STILL FEEL THAT ITS STILL THERE. RIBS ON RIGHT SIDE STILL GIVE ME JIP HERE AND THERE. BUT I HAVE LOST 21LBS IN THE LAST SIX WEEKS. I STILL GET SOME FORM OF HEART BURN IF I EAT SOME FATTY FOODS WHICH I AVOID AS MUCH AS I CAN. GASSSY IS ONE WAY OF PUTTING IT NO MATTER WHOT I EAT. LOOSE BOWELS MAY BE ONCE A MONTH. GAVISCON, WORKS FOR ME.SO I WILL GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE TIME TO SEE IF THIS WILL SETTLE, THEN MAY GO TO MY GP.

Hello! I had my gall bladder out last august. I haven't had diarrhea, but have had softer stool, and painful cramps when i have a bm. However, I have found that specific things trigger these. Caffeine and spicy foods send me into painful cramping. It's a pain. But now that I'm pregnant with my second child, I suppose the lack of caffeine is good.

wow.. all of these stories ring truth for me except that i have not had problems with diarrhea. The weight gain is a biggy for me because this is the heaviest i have ever been. Prior to my surgery two years ago 2007 i was 40lb lighter. I have the spare tire around the mid section, and the weight seems to do what it wants. I had no idea how serious it was to have your gallbladder. It breaks down the foods we eat. I wish someone would have told me that weight would be an issue unless I kept a strict diet. I even exercise almost daily. This is horrible. I feel so fat and bloated all the time with no control in site. Can someone help us who have had this surgery on how to control the weight gain??????

I had my GB removed on feb 09. They said that it was urgent so I did it. I too have problems with my BM and can not for the life of me lose weight. I am tired all the time, have strong back pain, hormones are out of control, and the opening of my stomach hurts when I eat. Why the heck didn't the doctors warn me about the possible side effects?? I have been back and forth to these doctors and no one has correlated my symptoms to my GB removal. >;) I was better off having my GB and just watching what I ate. At least, I did not have a nasty gut that weighs me down physically and emotionally :'( Thanks to all of these posts, I know that I am not alone and that it is not my fault.
Thank you!

I suffered on and off for 2 years with what I thought was indegestion and then had 7 weeks of hell where it got to the point as soon as I drank water Id be doubled up in pain. After a 2 week stay in Arizona and being very ill on both flights home I saw my GP again who diagnosed an ulcer and told me to drink milk and increase my dairy intake (so lots of fat!!) After ten days I was admitted to hospital where a scan showed a very big gallbladder and alot of stones. I had surgery via keyhole and everything went well. From the day of surgery Ive had diahhrea within an hour of eating and Ive only eaten bland, and small portions of food, Ive lost a stone in 2 weeks. I rang the hospital and was told there were NO side effects and that I must have a bug, even though I felt really well. The past 2 days have been better and Ive kept food "in!" However today for the second time Ive got similar pain I had before the operation, it feels similar to having a chicken bone stuck and pain out of my back. All the stones were removed, during my operation, the surgeon injected a dye to locate any stones in the ducts. Would this still be trapped wind from keyhole surgery? It cant be indegestion surely as I last ate 12 hrs earlier. Ive also noticed Im breathless when I only go upstairs. ??
