Hi I had my gall bladder removed two weeks ago and I have no problems. I am able to eat whatever I want. I do not have diarrhea. I have softer stool, which is better for me bc I was constipated before the surgery. I had small pain on my right side at the beginning but it did not last. So good luck to you guys and sorry to hear all the problems your experiencing.
Be really careful with exercise, I had mine done laparoscopically too and the doctor advised I could go back to normal exercise within 2 months (but no skiing, kayaking and abdominal exercises for a while longer).
But when I did start exercise again (As scheduled) I actually pulled my scar apart. The skin was still there over the top but there was a gap and It filled up with really dark icky blood and was totally gross, I ended up seeing a plastic surgeon who gave me tape that I had to wear on it everyday to help it close up (hahaha she said "it is a bra for your scar").
Despite this the scar is almost invisible now but I wish I had been a little more careful and a great big purple lump in the middle of your tummy does nothing for your sex life :p

Hi,this is my first post, i was diagnosed as having several gallstones nearly two years ago,the doctor told me i needed surgery to remove it but me being a coward never went back so still suffer from the pain on right side, but the pain in last few days has been unbearable, so just searched for side effects and came across here, now i also suffer from ulcerative colitis so the thought of even more running to the toilet has scared me even more, looks like more pain killers may be the answer and keep my scabby bladder a bit longer, rgds David
Hi all. I have been suffering with Gallstones since i was 16 i am now 21 and had my gallbladder removed in Aug 2007. Even though i recovered fast I have been in and out of hospital for the past 2 years or so, i have had every test you can imagine and yet still no answers as to why i am still suffering the same pain.
I am always bloated and find it impossible to loose weight. Many of you have said that you suffer with toilet problems i experience that also its either i wont go 4 a month or so and then reverse roles so i cant stop going.
All these problems really get me down i am still young i work full time, study and go out with friends but it worries me to do things that people my age should be doing e.g. partying all weekend etc.
If anyone can help or has some advise i would be grateful.
Laura

Hi
Im 39yo male. Had my gall bladder removed about 2 weeks ago. I had this really bad stomach pain, I though it was just from the food I had earlier. Anyway one morning (3am) I had a really terrible pain on my stomach, upper right and right lower back. It was non stop of pain for almost 15hrs so I knew I have to go to the doctor. Got there and I was told its more likely gall stones. I ended up in the hospital on that same day. I was in the hospital contstanly on pain killer while waiting for the ops, 4 days wait in total. I was home 2 days after the ops.
Well so far so good, no loose stools or any discomfort. The only things that worried me the most is that Im losing weight constantly. I already lost 10+ lb since the ops. I dont mind losing 35lb in total as Im over weight anyway. I have noticed that I been eating less and dont feel hungry as often. Also been eating good food so all that is probably the reason why Im losing weight which is a good thing.
I hope I dont end up skin and bones, reading some of the post here does worries me abit. Only if I knew I had gall stones and seen this forum I would have start eating healthier food, take some herbal supplements that could maybe get rid of it altogether. Its too late for me know but for those who are still waiting for their ops, why not consider an alternative. I certainly would have done so if I knew.
The thing is, the docs in the hospital assured me that there is nothing to worry about at all. The gall bladder has no use and it can go and you can live a normal life style without pain or the stones ever comming back again. This isnt the case for most posters in here :-(
I wish you all the best...

I wish you all the best...
I just read many of these posts and am in tears. I've had 4 panic attacks and thought i was dying. I can't tell you how hard it has been.
First, I had a rare cervical cancer at 26. I got over that pretty well but the initial diagnosis caused my very first panic attack.
Then, in 2005, I had GB surgery and, on top of my university not accepting my insurance because it was before the semester had started, I had complications during the laproscopic surgery, due to internal scar tissue from my cancer surgery. I now have what looks like a giant anchor across my belly. A scar from under my ribcage to the scar that goes from hip to hip. I was fine for recovery and begged my instructors to let me finish my semester out at home. I had a looong recovery but I fought tooth and nail to graduate the next semester from arch school ( with the faculty design award and top honors) and all seemed to be getting better.
After graduation, my husband and I immediately moved to Colorado, where it's all gone horribly wrong. I had no insurance (i paid $235,000 out of pocket through collections because who *has* that kind of money as a recent college grad), no home no job and a ton of stress. A year later, things got better but the stress has compounded all of my problems.
I lost my job to the bad economy(stress), started a business (stress), moved my unhealthy and severely depressed mother in law into our home for the past two years(stress) and have continued to struggle with horrible symptoms, battling weight gain and nobody to help me with some answers. I even got insurance finally and a doctor who has been of absolutely no help at all. I've thought for about two weeks now that I've had any number of cancers going on... just out of shear panic and not knowing what was going on.
I've had diarrhea, constipation, back pain on the right, hip pain, side stitches, panic attacks, nausea, rushes to the restroom, light headed. You name it!
And, you know what's finally helped me in what I think has been the worst two weeks since my *first* surgery? All of you!
OMG! The responses here have been *so* helpful. I'm starting to calm down, gain my head back a little and breath better already.
Thanks to all of you... soo, so much. In tears, I am making an appointment to get this medicine that many of you have recommended, changing my diet and going to go play tennis this afternoon with my husband.
I hope all of those who have these same problems get to do the same. God bless you! ( and I don't say that lightly or often)

will someone please just answer the question instead of stating the exact same problem?! It really doesn't help
Hello,
I totally understand all of YOU! I had my gallblader removed 8 years ago and the sympstoms only get worse! I am currently taking PROBIOTIC supplements(good bacteria) and digestive ENZYMES to help breakdown of food into nutrients. These two together will work wonders!!! I don't have to be scared of leaving the house for long periods of time!!! The only thing is that if I forget the dose one day, I go back to the same thing.
Good luck and blessings to you all.

My Gall Bladder Surgery Horror Story
I had my gall Bladder removed summer 2005, with no mention of any side effects or problems associated with surgery. Almost straight after surgery I had severe diarrhoea for 2 weeks constantly. The pain started after 1 day and by the 4th day post op I was unable to function, lying down was impossible. I was sent home on a Wednesday by Friday I could hardly get a breath and my GP sent me back to A&E.
I was diagnosed with an escaped gall stone which had blocked the bile duct and burst the severed duct that previously went to the gall bladder. My stomach cavity had filled up with bile and restricted the inflation of my rhs lung, had I not returned to hospital I would have been in serious trouble risking death. I was impaled with a six inch needle below my liver and 2-3 ltrs of bile gushed out, over the next few days another 3-4 ltrs empted into a bag I carried, after which I was sent home again.
Over the next 3 years my diarrhoea became more severe and was very explosive resulting in multiple large painful anal fissures. The diarrhoea was cryptic in nature some foods would be ok one day and not the next, but always taking no more than 10 minutes to evacuate. This was my biggest nightmare which resulted in 3 further surgeries to ease the pain from my rear end, not once was my troubles attributed to my initial gall bladder surgery, even my suggestions of a connection were knocked down.
After the above surgeries I was given laxative to ease the rear end during motions but this made matters worse bringing more fissures which were larger than before. At one point the entire circumference of my anus was swollen and the pain was indescribable. When I was at my most depressed I decided to investigate myself and the internet highlighter I was not alone, I found out about

Today is December 30, 2010, I had my Gall Bladder taken out on August 19, 2010. I also experienced the bathroom issue, nausea, right side ache and some bloating. Due to this I had to adjust my diet dramtically. I on the other hand have not gained weight, I have lost about 15 pounds and no this was not a good thing. I had already dramatically lost weight due to the loss of my husband so this loss of weight does not look good on me, I feel like I look sick! I am also Hypoglycemic and have been since I was diagnosed at 14 (I am now 40), since the removal it has been worse, before I could control it with foods but now some of those foods have bad effects. Not sure what to do as my doctor says that I am a rare case as far as the weight loss goes!??
Hi
I'm a 36 year old female, id just like to say i have read some of the comments on here and they are enough to scare anyone about having there gallbladder removed!
I had my gallbladder removed 4 weeks ago, what a relief! Id suffered a year with what i thought was indigestion only to find i had gallstones.. constant pain when i ate and loose stools all of the time.
Having my gallbladder removed has been the best! don't get me wrong it is very painful for the first couple of days and you need some strong pain killers, but after a week you will be on the mend.
Try to eat soft food for the first week such as, porridge for breakfast, soup for lunch and veg & fish for dinner all meals with a glass of apple juice, you need to remember that the gallbladder breaks down fat. So cut out fat at least for about 3 weeks to let the body adjust to NO gallbladder. I think alot of people that have had bad experiences have just been eating how they ate before there gallbladder was removal, i think that why they are having diarrhea and vomiting there bodies can't cope with fat intake. After 3 weeks start bringing the food you would normally eat back into your diet, but try to leave out food that are high in fat. I did this and i feel great, No pain, No diarrhea and no vomiting happy days i hope this helps all those gallbladder-less people. :-)

My gall bladder was removed 4 months ago. Before the surgery I was able to handle one or two alcoholic beverages w/o feeling sick the next day. Now even one drink makes me feel bad the entire next day and night--headache, body aches, basically a hangover. I live in New Orleans where having a glass of wine or a drink with dinner is almost mandatory. Does gall bladder removal somehow affect the body's ability to tolerate alcohol? Even one drink?
Hello,
I had my gall bladder removed at just 13 years of age due to two small stones which caused me great pain, three years have gone by and I am now 16 and I am living in hell! I was told by my doctor that removing the gall bladder would take away all my pains so went ahead with the op but instead I have just been given slightly less pain and frequent bowel movements. Every time I eat something slightly fattening, I have to dart to the loo within a matter of minutes, I am not able to eat dairy products or take aways unless I have taken a sachet containing cholestyramine and sometimes that don't even work. My school life has suffered a lot, I not only still get stomach pains and frequent bowel movent (about 6 times a day) I am also suffering from back pain and low energy. I would advise anyone NOT to get their gall bladder removed unless it is the only option avaliable. I am 16 yet am unable to enjoy my life as I always worry about going to the loo or constant pain, I wouldn't wish this on anyone! :$

Do not eat fried foods. Reduce fats of all kinds (lean meats in small quantities, reduced fat milk products). Do not use products like chips that contain fat substitutes. If you must use oils in cooking use only small amounts of olive oil. Do not drink soft drinks or consume large amounts of sugar. Whole grains (oatmeal is great), fresh veg tables, nuts and fruit. There are a number of digestive aid products on the market, I use "365 Simple Digestive Formula" from whole foods.
If you are having continuous issues then you need to see a doctor that specializes in this area. There have been a number of studies in 2009 that indicate that adhesion and damage ducts can happen either during or immediately after surgery and may have to be surgically repaired.
I had my gallbladder removed several years ago and do not have issues unless I eat something that I know is going to be bad. I do not have issues with my weight but I do not consume large amounts of sugar. Best of luck,

the gallbladder does not produce the bile bile is made by the liver and stored in the gallbladder ( bladder like urine bladder )so once the bladder is gone there is a constant flow of bile into the intestine
