I am allergic to chicken after I had a serious bout of food poisoning which left me unable to walk for two days. It has taken a long time to realise that I have an allergy I have always assumed that the chicken sandwiches, curries etc were poorly cooked or something. Last year I had a chicken soup and my belly swelled up and I was in agony for a few days, prompting me to try out whether the same thing happened with other types of chicken, after a few times in the foetal position for hours I finally confirmed it must be a food intolerance. I have a good laugh about the russian roulette element of buffets and always get my friends to try things out before I eat it. The worst by far is indian and chinese take-aways, I always thought that you were meant to be a bit rough after eating them, but realised that nobody I else I knew spends the next day running back and forth to the bathroom! Cross contamination I guess, from the cooking implements or pans.
It has been highlighted today, after I went for a flu jab that they have eggs and chicken protein in them! I feel really lucky that she mentioned it as I have absolutely no idea what the affect having that injected into my bloodstream could have! I think it's worth checking if you go for jabs what the ingredients are.
we aren't sure if it's a chicken allergy but it's the only common factor my mom and i have found to my younger sister, the other night we ate out and she had fried chicken tenders which sweet tea and bbq sauce, my grandmother and my brother had the same thing, that night she woke up sick...and it went on into the morning and by afternoon she was fine, but then that night we ate some frozen fried chicken from the store and she once again woke up sick and we all ate the chicken and haven't appeared to have the symptoms she does, she had a fever the first time when she got sick but the second time didn't.....does anyone think this is a chicken allergy? it would be a big help to have some feedback, i think we should take her to the doctors but my family are kinda skeptical about it....
Thank God there are others out there that have the same prob! Noone ever believes that I am allergic to it until they see the effects of it (like having the worst case of food poisoning you can imagine and not being able to really move for days Im so weak after it). And like that there is tons of chicken in the supermarkets, restaurants, when you visit someones house for dinner etc. People have even joked about "sneaking it" into my food to "really see if you are allergic" stupid idiots. Then you get stupid questions like: how can you be allergic to chicken but not turkey"....people really are infuriating about it! As we speak im ill after eating food that was cooked in the same deep fat fryer as chicken :(
I can eat eggs but only a small amount and I still feel uncomfortable after eating them (mild-moderate stomach cramps usually)
Like several of the posts I was fine with it until 7 years ago and at first thought I had contracted food poisoning several times in a row! Someone has suggested however that perhaps its an allergy to some hormone they are pumping into chickens as this is supposed to be a big problem with some meat products?

I have been allergic to chicken since I was little. I am allergic to all poultry and seafood. It is not a life threatening allergy, but upset stomach. I am also bothered by bananas (someone else said they had a banana allergy too), cantalope, FL avocados and a few other things.
Growing up with the chicken allergy was a real pain. I have met only 2 or 3 people with the chicken allergy. Several times people didn't believe me, and that was VERY frustrating!! I love eating chinese food, but avoid the buffets, you never know what is in the food. When I order soups out, I have the wait staff check with the cooks for the ingredients. Sometimes they don't even know if there is chicken stock in the soup.
It's nice to hear that others have the same experiences, although I feel bad for you too!
I am in the exact same boat as you. How weird.
Hi my name is David. I have a chicken allergy as well. I have had it all my life. I am now 52. The allergy is real and yes it is difficult to explain it to people especially untrained caterers and people who serve food. I do not have egg or seafood allergy however. Thanks for sharing. It is a rare allergy. I have not met any one in person who has the allergy except for my Grandmother who possilblly had the same gene.
