Yes I am Black and allergic to chicken! People close to me find this funny as they really do not know how bad it is to have food allergies. I to am down for days after ingesting chicken...feels like I have the flu, achey all over chest tightness itchy feverish cough, and my tummy is gassy and so on. I used to think that the market that I purchased my meats were the problem but I had to go in to be retested for new allergies had the allergist told me about my new chicken allergy, i told him my suspect on my local market and how eating it made me feel and he was not surprised! I too have a epi pen that i carry with me and I stay away from chicken but alas it is sometimes in the foods i purchase when I eat out and I am not suspecting it!

I discovered that chicken, chicken broth, and eggs that are not organic have high levels of arsenic. Highly poisonous. They give chickens arsenic for faster growth and for pinker skin when displayed in the stores. I was plagued with many symptoms including the ones you suffer from. Give organic a try. Also, rice growers use chicken manure to fertilize and it contains high levels of arsenic and therefore as you may have read in consumer reports, the organic rice has high levels of arsenic as well. You have to laugh!

I am 47, and have been allergic to chicken and turkey since childhood. As a child I got sick at every family Thanksgiving. My father got angry at me, thinking I was faking so I could go home. Now we know it was the turkey. I avoid most restaurants and all food-centric family gatherings. Once too often has someone poisoned me trying to prove this allergy is all in my mind.

My son now 40 was allergic to chicken until his 20's.  He initially was allergic to ALL meats and foul.  He was so allergic to chicken that he reacted to 2 french fries cooked in the same oil that chicken had been cooked in.  His reaction was to be sick to his stomach.  At 4 he was able to eat veal and lamb (they are the least allergenic of all meats --- told to me by a pediatric allergist)  At 5 he was able to eat organic beef. He is no longer allergic to any foods but still has respiratory allergies depending where he is.  Some places are better for respiratory allergies.  His great grandfather and 1 great aunt on the other side of the family were also allergic to chicken and turkey.

I don't really know if i'm allergic to chicken because or just fast food, i can eat chicken at home and i'l be fine as long as its fresh and well cooked, but if i go to Nandos, KFC, or have any other type of fast food burgers at burger king not just chicken  i will  break out in hives my skin goes red and my heart rate shoots up to a million miles an hour and my skin feels like its burning luckily i have never had problems with breathing.

It is so nice to know there are other people with this. Thank you internet! Every time I eat chicken I throw up about 4-6 hours later. All night. The other end as well. People think I'm nuts. This has been going on for several months now. At first I thought it was just the roast chickens at the grocery store. Then I realized it was all chicken. A dish my dad's girlfriend made with chicken one night: vomiting. Same dish with pork instead? I was fine. That was my oh hey, it's chicken's fault.

Soup seems okay for now, but I'm steering clear of it anyway. At my cousin's bar mitzvah a few weeks ago, I popped a piece of General Tso's in my mouth without thinking. I said, "Oh c**p, is this chicken!?" Another cousin said, "It won't kill you." I ended up with heartburn so bad all night. I already take Nexium every day, I also took Zantac, ate a lot of Tums, nothing helped, but at least I didn't throw up. From that point on I vowed no more chicken.

My problem is how do I replace it in my meals? I need to eat healthy foods and have to watch my cholesterol. Fish is very expensive. What does everyone else use as a source of lean protein?

I am allergic to both chicken and turkey. It started when I was a kid, but at the time I could not articulate what the problem was. It has progressed since that time. I get severe heartburn, hives, swollen eyelids, sneezing fits and a feeling like I am itchy from the inside out. It is not fun. Sure enough, I went to an allergist and tested positive for the allergy (not that I needed to be told!). My doctor says to avoid chicken and turkey, and perscribed an epi pen just in case. If I know I am going to eat it (i.e. Thanksgiving) taking a Benedryl beforehand helps.
