My daughter has had had reflux since birth. Projectile vomiting, fussiness as a baby, gagging on foods when she started to eat solids, frequent ear infections, slow weight gain, coughing fits until she would vomit. When she got a little older she would complain her tummy was 'hot'. We saw pediatricians, they put her on Zantac (which is very bitter in liquid form) then she was on prevacid which cost us $3.50/day and didn't work either. She was seen by a pediatric feeding specialist, who once again diagnosed her with reflux. Her throat and esophagus were irritated and swollen from stomach acid constantly backing up and any foods that still had texture once chewed (fried coatings, baked breading, oatmeal, raw fruits and vegetable, etc) caused her irritated esophagus to spasm and make her cough and vomit. She was seen by a pediatric ENT who looked down her throat with a scope and once again diagnosed inflamation due to reflux, but no one could tell us what it was caused by.

Finally a little before her 5th birthday, my husband made a connection one night at dinner, while my daughter was making a dash to the bathroom to vomit after a coughing fit. She only seems to cough to the point of vomiting when she eats chicken, which because of picking eating was one of the few things she would eat...

So we eliminated chicken and withing a few days she started to improve, within a few weeks we noticed she hadn't vomited since that night my husband made the connection, she wasn't coughing as often and she hadn't complained of a 'hot tummy' either, she wasn't asking for tummy medicine (tums, because nothing else worked anyways) and she was sleeping better.

That was almost a year ago. But to me that didn't explain the first six months of her life when she was solely breastfed, until my husband noted that I ate a lot of chicken and I inadvertently was the one making her sick through my breastmilk. We have tried chicken a few time since then, at 3 months, again at 6 months and we noticed that she has started to react more strongly when she comes into contact with something with chicken in it, more violent coughing spells, indigestion, itching around her mouth, hives on her chin and cheeks, sneezing and runny nose, problems sleeping.

Chicken is in so much more than you would imagine. (hot dogs, pepperoni, sandwich meats, most soups, almost everything processed, cross contamination at restaurants, ie: the grill, the fryer, utensils). We have to send her own hotdogs when she goes to birthday parties, she can't order fries at restaurants, she is afraid to eat at other peoples' houses because 'it might have chicken in it Mom'.

The doctor says that it is not really an allergy and that she will outgrow it, but after reading all of the posts here I am not sure anymore.

I have Chicken allergy too or call Keratosis Pilaris. I hate it! I hate to go outside wearing T shirts. For me, It's awkward when I need to put a foundation so that it will not be noticeable. And even though I am allergic to chickens and eggs and often ate them, My Favorite food is chicken, So weird!

It might be the chicken, sometimes it is old when you buy it at the store. I ate some of the bagged chicken breasts with no adverse symptoms. Tonight I made some bone in oven style breasts and I was in the bathroom with in 30 minutes. I get bloated and have cramps. I did add some soup base without salt and seasoning. I love chicken it doesn't love me. It gets rejected and blown out in a fury of gas. I wonder though if it is food allergies or poor product. I try to buy the best meat possible and freeze it right away for later use. With me it is easy to pin point dire foods because I eat the same kind of meals daily with no junk food. I am going on 6 hours of bloat as I write. My diet is 1700-2000 calories like a machine, 5 days weekly of exercise and 7.5 hours of sleep nightly. I like my routines and chicken may be on the chopping block. I am allergic to eggs.

I just had to add my two cents.  i've been tested for a chicken allergy but it came back negative, however i definitely have an intolerance.  as soon as i eat chicken meat (or ANY poultry - turkey, pheasant, duck, anything with a feather) my chest tightens, and i get itchiness in my throat, severe heartburn, and trouble breathing - i usually have to go and sleep it off.  it's been this way since i was a small child.  my family and friends never believe me so they always forget and make chicken for dinner!!  nice support, huh ;-)  i'm in my 40's and this has been going on my whole life so i take in stride.  the odd thing is i can eat buffalo wings just fine, chicken broth and eggs are ok too.  i've tried organic, free range, white meat, dark meat, different methods of preparation - nothing helps.  i just don't eat it.  again this has been always the case so i don't miss it.  oh, i've also tried taking allergy meds and over the counter digestive aids/meds (all kinds) before and after eating chicken, still nothing helps.  a few years back i met this woman at a dinner party who insisted it was in my head because allergies come and go over the life span and i couldn't possibly have had this issue my whole life.  it wasn't like i was complaining but she was adamant!!

I found out about a week ago that im allergic to chicken. Ive been eating it all these years, and lately ive been having a very bad reaction to it. Started with KFC, but i didnt think it was the cause, cause i ate it soo many times. I thought it was a mosquito bite or something, then i ate home made chicken, and the same results occured. And on both occations I ate chicken only, not with rice or anything.

My date last night wanted me to try the chicken in his plate but I was too embarrassed to tell him that I've been allergic to chicken for 3 years. So I ate it anyway. I came home at 10pm and of course my hands were itchy and I had a rash so I just put on some cream as always, but then I couldn't sleep at all. I didn't feel tired and I was fully functional to do work online at like 3 am.

I had no idea it causes bladder problems until now. I've had 6 bladder infections since I found out I was allergic to chicken. They can also cause kidney stones, and I'm afraid that's why I have pain in my kidneys sometimes. My dietitian said she had heard of several cases like mine, so I always thought it was because chicken is not organic anymore. Grain-fed chicken isn't organic either, because the grains are GMF (genetically modified).

Today, the rash had gone away, and now I get hives on my palms that come and go which is a similar allergic reaction that I had to Morphine. My doctor said it will take days for it to go away.

You should also investigate your tolerance to pepper since, in the case of irritable bowel, chicken and pepper are frequently cooked and served together.

I have a BS in Animal Science and just want to clarify that they do not inject hormones in chicken. I too have been allergic to poultry my entire life. My lip would have a spot that would swell, my throat swells and my chest hurts. I have many other milder allergies...watermelon, cantelope, nuts, dairy. My 4 yr old daughter has just developed the allergy and throws-up.
