You both right. They're bad guard dogs because their will to create a bond with human is 19 times stronger than German Sheperd. But 8-9 years thats majority apbt lifespan . There are dogs that go up to 17 years covered in skin tags and almost blind but majority live 8/9 years . You can have a dog that full of energy and in 2 months he's 62 lbs left out of 105 lbs he weighed prior to that . Small pits live longer . You want a long living Pitbul , get a small female with staffordshire bloodline .make sure it's not a bully or xxl. Bigger dogs have shorter lifespan. No the nature it's the opposite : bigger you are - longer you live. But for the dogs and humans that rule is a complete 180 turm

Pitties are awful dogs from a home protection standpoint, but they are truly amazing in every other way. I fully recommend if you are looking for pure love and undying loyalty. good luck.

Our pit mix is 14 1/2 and in the past year has really slowed down with hip issues, deafness, and incontinence but doesn’t seem to be in pain. She still eats well and plays for small periods of time. Still very loving and affectionate. I adopted her around 8 months old and she was very fearful and anxious of everything. Turned into such a smart, loyal companion. I give her supplements for her joints, high quality food and an occasional rimadyl.

We also had a male pitbull that lived until 15 years old. It was very painful to lose him he was a member of our family. We have another pitbull now and I joke that the only thing lethal about her would be if she licked you to death.

We've had many rescue pits . . . some of which took some time to begin to trust after the abuse they suffered at the hands of the mutants who abused them. They ALL became real lovers, most lived 8-9 years. Perhaps they would have lived longer if they hadn't had such rough starts. Would not have given up a minute with any of them.

Have adopted several abused pits and pit mixes. Don't adopt a pit if you're just looking for a "guard dog"! Even the ones who suffered severe abuse at the hands of the monsters who fight them can become the most loving snugglers ever when they are shown love and can learn to trust again. Don't get a dog is what you really want is a Home Security System!!
