Thank u cc2222 I was just thinking as I'm putting my 8yr old son to bed, that our pitbull is getting up in age he is 71/2yrs old, my son would be devastated as would my whole family if our APBT passed......so thank u much for posting this! Also I AGREE 1000% these r NOT Guard dogs go with a German Shepherd if people would like a guard dog they are wonderful to guard your house, car, anything really! I had one for yrs and my mother also has, and had German shepherds and they guard!!! Again thank u!!

Mine isn't a watch dog,he would let them tote the house off,he's a 2 year old blue pit,very lovable,he loves everybody,and very good with children,i don't think,they are good watch dogs,unless you teach them to be mean,i,would rather mine love people!

It is true that they don't make good home defense dogs because they are so friendly but do to media coverage making them out to be vicious animals the intimidation factor exists and make it good home defense in that aspect. My girl is just the sweetest thing but people will cross the street if she is out front with us even though she is leashed and there is no chance she can get to them. For that reason alone I have a sign on my front window stating there is a Pitt Bull on premises.

I feel the same way about never getting another pet. Our 10 yr old just died yesterday. He was such a true love. A sweet sweet angel! I agree with what others have said about them letting the burglar in and licking them from head to toe!

I agree. Many of the dogs attacking, are being called pits when they are in fact mixed breeds. If a dog has a broad head or broad chest, they are automatically a pit. A few years back, I had a guy stop here that lied and claimed to be a detective. My house is secluded and it was just around dusk. He tried to push past me and go to the door of the house. I saw him look over my shoulder, and then he made an excuse that he would get this straightened out and he left. When I turned around to get into the house, I saw my female pit standing there staring at him. She never growled or barked, but she scared him off with her looks. If anyone wants her, all they have to do is bring small children and she will climb right into the vehicle with them. I rescued her, her two daughters, and her granddaughter from a bad back yard breeder when she was only 4. She is now 15 but really showing her age. Her only aggression ever was to growl at strange men if they tried to get between me and her.

the % of attacks by pits directly correlates with popularity of the breed. if there were an equal amount of each breed in the same environment, the stats would be different.

My female pitbull was 12yrs we had since she was 4months had to put her down we were fighting against cancer but didint want her to be suffering it had reached her lungs i love my dog precious will always be remembered

Wow, mine will be 14 next month...we make his food and use herbs to heal any ills he gets. He's doing really well and free of major illnesses. Hope he lives at least a few more years...he's been such an amazing companion.
