I'm sorry for your loss. My pittbull is 9 years old. Just the thought of losing him makes me sad. I hope he can give our family a couple of more years. We love him dearly.

We took our red nose pitbull in as a stray around 1 year of age. She is now turning 10. She is an excellent guard dog and affectionate to family and regular friends. Even after several dog classes, she is, however, dog defensive, especially to ones which bark as she is more quiet natured. It did take over 6 months for her and our cats to get along as our three cats were not used to her high level of energy. One would even attack her. I even took up running and just finished my first half-marathon as she loved the action. e run together in a small town which does have leash laws. We also ended up getting our backyard fenced in so she could run freely but mostly she wants to be with us.
She has given my husband much friendship as our kids have gone and we are now empty nesters with one grandchild whom is well licked.

Excellent answer to the question, I have a 3 year old red nose pit and he wants to kiss everyone, my Rottie who recently passed away was a great guard dog , friendly but if she didn't know you , you couldn't get near the house.

My blue nose pit is approx. 12, I got her at the pound, so not sure. She is the sweetest thing ever. Sorry I can't take her places that normal dogs go, afraid. She was attacked by a Jack Russell and has been sensitive ever since. It has never been her fault, but just the same, I know they have a reputation. She has cancer all over now, and I have to give her benadryl every day. She has genetic skin problems. These dogs cost LOTS OF MONEY to take care of properly....so prepare for this, otherwise it is not fair to the breed. They also find trouble. My pittie bit a bufo toad in the yard and it cost $2000.00 to give her IVs and special meds. TWICE she did this! They are like children. Unless you are prepared to have a kid, don't do it.

If you had indeed done "real research," you would know that your statistics are incorrect, and your claim that pit bulls "attack children or other family members including their owners" is nothing more than false anecdotal propaganda. Decades of actual, scientific research, studies, and reams of data collected by literally thousands of highly respected, knowledgeable, and educated veterinarians, zoologists, ethologists, animal behaviorists and psychologists, professional trainers, and other experts has long since debunked these media-fueled sensationalist myths and urban legends about the "viciousness" of pit bull type dogs. They are merely dogs, like any other dog, with the same physiology and genetic footprint of any other member of the canidae species. During the days of slavery, the exact same stories were told about the bloodhound, as they were used to track runaway slaves; lurid stories of how they thirsted for the blood of slaves and how they would tear them apart if not restrained by their handlers abounded and they were feared as "devil dogs." During WWI and II, the same myths and stories of fatalities we hear now about pit bulls were spread about German Shepherds, as they bore the stigma of the "evil Nazis." Next to be labeled with false tales of "inbred viciousness " were Dobermans; in the 1970's, the ludicrous belief was that Dobermans' skulls are so tiny and formed all ininepiece, so that as their brains grew they pressed against the skull, causing unbearable pressure that ultimately drove them on murderous insanity and a vicious nature. Puts one in mind of he stupid belief some idiots still cling to about the supposedly "locking jaws" of pit bulls, which is physically impossible and, anatomically incorrect. The 90's targeted Rottweilers, but that didn't last long when the glamour wore off cocaine use and it came to be associated with gang members, drug dealers, and gangster rappers, who took to using pit bull type dogs to enhance their "tough guy" image because they believed they "looked mean." Unfortunately, this time the mythology was fueled and spread by the rise of the Internet, which caused the pit bull's demonization to take hold andown information naciously as ignorant people forwarded stories they'd "heard," embellishing them at every telling until we're where we are today. Because of ignorance and people of lazy to actually check whether the source of information they get on the 'net is even credible, it's been all but impossible overcome the unfair, false, and frankly, ridiculous beliefs too many people still cling to about pit bulls. The sad resultstory really nearly a million dogs "suspected" of being it's or pit mixes being euthanized every year, bans, people unable tof find affordable housing, discrimination, and abuse of a dog that was literally America's mascot dog for decades. In conclusion, please educate yourself and be sure of your sources before spreading false information that causes devastation, heartache, and death to innocent animals and their human families.

As for your claim of the "60%" fatalities, the author of the study from which your information was likely drawn AND the text of the report itself both state that that information DOES NOT demonstrate that pit bull-type dogs are more likely than any other dogs to bite, attack, or kill, nor does it demonstrate any propensity to do so, nor was the study done for that purpose. The author testified under oath in federal court that neither the CDC nor any other agency tracks dog bites by breed, nor have they ever done so, and that such an endeavor is not possible to do. I myself was present at that trial, but dont take my word for it; all the transcripts and documents filed are a matter of public record, available for anyone to see for themselves. 2005, The People of the State of Colorado vs.The City and County of Denver, US Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Happy research to you.

So because of one dog, your going to say all pitbulls are unpredictable? So if one man is a terrorist does it make all men terrorist's? If women is a b***h does it make all women b***h's? Use common sense before putting more of a bad name on a breed that does not deserve the bad rap they already have from people like you. I have owned and been around a decent amount of pitbulls and there are WAY more well behaved, loving and loyal pit then there are bad one's.

My Red nose Pitbull Joker just passed away this last weekend at the age of 13 due to liver disease and cancer. He was a very strong dog not just physically but mentally too. Got him when he was barely 4 weeks old and never left my side. Pitbulls just like any other dog are VERY LOYAL AND CARING as long as the right person take care of them.
