Hi! it's appalling how many causes there can be to these sudden, violent or slowly coming back pains. Sport, accident, shaking a carpet to the window, heart attack, lung diseases can bring them about. As far as I'm concerned my sudden "breath-taking pain" was due to arthritis. There are joints between ribs and the backbone where osteoarthritis can go (generally for 3 to 4 days. Or also, of course, for just during the weekend you'd be expecting for so long !). This pain is as painful as the same one in the knuckles, toes, hips or ankles, but this time it hurts at every breath one takes. Fortunately, it is helped by aspirin or ibuprofen for example, also by light massages, and, when breathing is too difficult, by accompanying breathing in by a gentle movement of the arms to lift chest. Best wishes Bernard.

I am experiencing the same kind of pain, too! And like you, I also miscarried 4 weeks ago. I haven't gone to the doctor yet to confirm what this is but I definitely will tomorrow. I have had this pain since last night and when I woke up this morning, the pain seem to have gone away. However, while preparing lunch I suddenly sneezed and the pain started to comeback. Unlike last night, where I also have pain on my right shoulder all the way down to my back, this time, the pain is at my lower right back all the way to front rib area. It hurts so bad when I breathe and I cannot even finish a sentence. I am on a birth dontrol pill right now which I also started taking 4 days ago. Not sure if this is connected but my menstruation flow doesn't seem to subside. I still have a heavy flow even when I have been menstruating for 6 days now.

Im 17 and I have the exact thing!

Pain in the top of the back whenever I breath I used to be able to get it to go with a hot water bottle but now nothing seems to work, I went to my doctors about it and all 3 (saw 3 at different times) all said they couldnt help me cause they didnt know what it was.... All I had as a reply was "oh I havent heard of that just leave it and im sure it'll pass" my teachers are saying to get them to refer me to hospital doctors, but they wont, cause they dont see what the problem is :/ so now im just stuck and i dont know what to do... but it hurts SO bad

perhaps your chiropractor is just trying to make money out of you. Did he do an x-ray. I'd listen to the doc if I were you and take the tablets.

I was jumping on my trampoline and I went to just and land on my butt and bounce back up again. Well i was jumping with my sister and she double bounced me and i fliped backwords. When i did I landed on the upper part of my back and my back bent far over my head. Now my back hurts when I breathin or out, when i bend over, or lay down on my back or side. i told my parents, but they just said i would be fine.:'( It hurts so bad!

YES! I had CT scan done to rule out blod clot. I am 21 weeks pregnant so this has been very tramatic for me. I do not have clot so they diagnosed me with the same thing. EXCEPT NO ANTIBIOTICS were given to me, just PAIN KILLERS which DO NOT HELP AT ALL!!! and made me vomit!

I'm sorry that your going thru that, and thing is I live in the Bahamas and am going thru the same, only thing is my pain is on the left instead of the right, I've been thru test after test, they cant find anything, am now resorting to an Inhaler they have prescribed to help with the breathing, am so sick and tired of this, i just want to know whats going on, before this happened, i was healthy as an ox"term used all the time in Nassau" the next thing is a chest X-ray, i just want to be healthy and strong again, it's so frustrating when people that went to school to learn about the functions of the body, doesn't know when your body is malfunctioning, all the test and nothing. hopefully there's a solution for all of us, and were feeling 100% better in health physical and mental.

I've experienced back pain with deep breaths, the pain is on the middle left side of my back and the chest pressure is on the left side as well. This seems to happen when I physically over-extend myself. However, this seems really odd and I find it difficult to sneeze!

Almost a year and a half a go, I was diagnosed with pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) in my lungs and in my right leg. I had about 6 of them at the time. I was in the ICU for quite some time due to them. I couldn't breathe. I was having tons of back pain and I felt like I couldn't get a breath. I went to see my primary doctors assistant and she never ran any tests or anything but told me I was most likely having an asthma attack, and gave me a weeks worth of prednisone to help with the attack. And sent me home. After a few days of being on it, I thought it was helping. But the 3rd day, it was so bad again to the point I was gasping for air. I knew my insurance wasn't covered by the ER so I made a doctors appoitnment with my primary doctor and went in to see him. While the nurse called my name and was taking my weight and my blood pressure, she realized that my blood pressure wouldn't read. She told me my doctor would be right with me. When he came in he tried my blood pressure again, and still it wouldn't read. He did an EKG of my heart and he couldn't get results because it wouldn't read. He sent me for a chest Xray where he told me that I needed to go straight to the ER. When I got to the ER, they hooked me up to oxygen and took my vitals again. My blood pressure was so high, which is why it wasn't reading. They tried taking it every 10 minutes and when it finally did read, it was 100 over 279. The nurse was surprised I was alive. They took another EKG of my heart and a ct scan, where they found that I had a blood clot in each lung. Immediately, I was put on Loveknox shots (blood thinners) and Coumadin. Once my vitals were better, They sent me for a ultrasound of my right leg, which they found more blood clots. Eventually, I was unplugged that same evening from the oxygen to give a urine sample, which I passed out and fell in the bathroom. When they found me, I was unconsious, and purple on the floor. They thought I was dead. They had to shock my heart, 3 or 4 times, before I came back to it. I was in the ICU for 8 days. I was taking Loveknox shots for 3 days. 1 shot every 12 hours. They hurt SO bad. I dreaded every 12 hours. I was on Coumadin for 8 months. And while I'm no longer on it, I've been tested for blood clots once since I had them, and I didn't have any. But lately, I've been having some issues breathing, but sometimes I just think maybe it's the weather or something. It's been cold and rainy like spring.... Even though, we should have tons of snow by now. I live in the U.P. of Michigan. And I've also been experiencing the back pain again. Below my shoulder blade and my lower right side as well. But only my right side of my back hurts, but then it worries me because thats the side that the clots were on. I need to make a doctors appointment but I've been so stressed out with work that I don't have time to make an appointment, let alone go for one. I hope my story helps all of you.
