Wow! I'm so glad I found this conversation! I have been bothered by this bitter taste for over a month this time! I thought maybe it was from my allergy shots which are at full strength at this point. Or a high blood pressure med that my Dr. gave me to quell hot flashes. (It works a little...) But now that I read this, I think you all are right. I started eating pine nuts last summer ('08) that I bought at the grocery every once in a while. This bad taste has come & gone for about a year now. Recently, I found a big bag of pine nuts at BJ's (like Costco or Sam's) and it was much cheaper. They all tasted great and I just ate the last of them this past week end.
I can't stand this taste! It makes food taste different. Red wine tastes so bitter and Diet Coke tastes sickeningly sweet. I'm eating salty things to try to get rid of it and it's just putting weight on me. But if you are right, I'll give them up gladly! They're really fattening too!
I'm trying this ginger thing after work!! It's amazing how this affects your life! Thanks everyone and pray...

I actually think that there is a gum out there that has ginger in it that should really help you if you are caught without being able to get some. What do you think? Anyone found this?
I was grateful to find this site as I also googled 'bitter taste in mouth after eating' and I have had this since I ate pine nuts four days ago. My question is why didn't I ever experience this any of the other times I ate pine nuts?
I had pine nuts, in sushi, before without any problems. Someone complained about pine nuts in sushi volcano and they stopped using them. So I went to supermarket and bought them to add to sushi later. Ate a little from the jar and couple of days later got that terrible bitter taste after eating food. Peace of white bread is the worst. I scheduled 2 doctors appointments for the next week before finding this thread. Can't believe this!
Okay, it's been about a month since I ate any pine nuts. The day I read these posts, I got candied ginger from a health food store and chewed a couple of them up and swallowed them. The taste started going away right then and in about 3 days was totally gone and hasn't come back! Yippie! I'm so glad! It was awful! I loved the pine nuts but I won't be eating them again! Thanks to everyone posting - it worked!!

This is really quite amazing. I always eat pine nuts, but I really overdid it a few nights ago, and last night the horrible bitter taste came on. I'm glad to hear that ginger may take it away. It's really awful, and like everyone else, was worried it could be something more serious, or dental work gone bad. Thank you all for your posts.
Well! Just piping in to substantiate the numerous posting that preceded this one. I had an opened, nearly empty bag of pine nuts in my fridge for a few months. I thought I'd get rid of them, so I ate them . . . about 2 tablespoon fulls. This was just last Thursday. By Friday evening the bitter taste showed up - - after I enjoyed one of my sweek favorites . . . lemon and lime fruit slices. This is an interesting phenomenon. It's Monday and the taste is still with me. I'm counting on it being gone by Friday!
I am located in South Africa - I am experiencing the same bitter taste associated with sweet (or starchy) foods. Two days before it started, I ate about a teaspoon full of fresh pine nuts. I am not sure of the source but will investigate.
I'm just adding my voice to all the others here who have experienced this. It may go away (hopefully) but in my opinion a few milligrams of pinenuts appear to contain a powerful nerve and/or taste-bud altering substance capable of disrupting one of our senses for days and weeks! Imagine if something so simple could mess up any of our other senses?

After having the same experience and doing some research, I tried Ginger! And so far it's working! After two days of bitter tastes and not being able to eat anything sweet or starchy, I tried concentrated crystallized ginger! It appears to zing your tastebuds back into action and I can eat normal food again without the bad taste. Will have to see how long it lasts.
I too am grateful for having found this site. I bought pine nuts last week to help heal an ulcer as i could not find siberian pine nut oil anywhere. Within a couple of days i started to develop a horrible taste in my mouth , very bitter, especially when eating carbs. I have been suffering with it for over a week now. I found some gum that contains cardamom that was very helpful. the berry flavor seemed best but only helped until the next mouthful of bread or rice. I too will try the ginger. This taste is aweful. I am type O- but dont think that has anything to do with it. I think it may be a message to all the people who are being affected by this that they need to cleanse their liver/gallbladder. :-|

Well chalk up another one! Pine nuts! Relieved that's all it was. I bought only a very small jar to make a spinach with garlic and pine nuts recipe; it's going right in the trash as soon as I get home.
Add me to the list! I'm so glad I found this because I couldn't decide whether to go first to the dentist or the doctor.
I started getting the taste about a week ago, three days after I made a stuffing recipe that called for pine nuts. Having read how healthy they are, I've had a tablespoon or two of them most days since then and this taste has been driving me batty. I threw out some lunchmeat that I figured had gone bad and I was going to return the milk that I had just bought. Then I noticed that EVERYTHING tasted spoiled and I started getting worried. I guess that this is where pine nuts and I part ways. The fact that they're so expensive makes it a little more palatable XD
The taste reminds me of the reaction I've gotten after taking Biaxin antibiotic.

Well, you can add me to the list... When I first googled "bitter taste in the mouth" and saw "eating pine nuts" as a possible solution, I automatically kept looking for another solution, assuming that this was not a valid possibility... but when I found so many links about this, I decided to give it a look just out of curiosity, and came across this thread. That's when I remembered I had a dish with pine nuts last Friday, and this bitter taste started a couple of days later. It's still here (5 days after eating the pine nuts), although I have the impression it's weaker than it was at first. I understand from the posts here that I probably still have a few days of this ahead of me...
Interestingly, several other people ate the same dish with me, but none of the others have this taste. Also interestingly, of the group, I'm the only one with type O blood (O+)... From some of the responses here, it's clear that it's NOT limited to type O, but there are at least a couple of other responses here where several people from among a group felt the bitter taste, and in each of those cases it was type O's only, so I'm thinking it's possible that type O's are simply more SUSCEPTIBLE to this. So, in the case of "borderline" pine nuts (maybe just partially oxidized, or containing only small amounts of whatever it is that they contain to cause this), this might just be enough to cause those that are more susceptible to feel it, whereas in other cases (e.g. highly oxidized pine nuts, or nuts containing high amounts of whatever the mysterious substance that causes this might be), the levels of whatever this is might be high enough to cause anyone to feel the bitter taste... Just a hypothesis.

OMG! I had no idea the pine nuts I ate a few days ago, would cause this. I think my pine nuts are European.
I went RAW a few days ago and thought it was my new diet that caused this horrible, bitter aftertaste. I'll try ginger tomorrow. (My bloodtype is O - btw.)
