I would just like to know if its normal to find bleeding of a heavy sort when I have had my hysterectomy in 2007 and my ophorectomy in 2008. I've been feeling very tired today, more than normal. And started feeling cramps, almost like a period pain. When I went to the toilet I found that there is alot of blood. Where does this blood come from? I don't have burning urine, all that seems fine. I know and am aware that I will have to go and see my GP about this. Please could you advise.?
Heavy bleeding so long after hysterectomy is always a reason for alert - it simply should not happen, you don't need me to tell you that. But, still, it does happen for some women who had hysterectomy and the most often cause is either an infection or irritation that happens during intercourse. The amount of bleeding and the difference between brown, old blood that is most probably caused by the irritation and the bright red, "fresh" blood which means that the cause is something other than irritation of the vaginal walls is the major reason for you to get the immediate checkup if the bleeding is heavy and bright red.
