Hi I just discovered this site. I have all of these symptoms described by other posters. I am having my thyroid checked. Waiting for the results of either hyper or hypo thyroid. Also some of you may want to look up Wilson's Temperature Syndrome which has similar symptoms.

Hi all. It is not my thyroid at all. I have the swelling at the base of my neck and the breathing problems, dizziness which have been recurring for years. This last time I had to go to the hospital because the breathing problems. I took benadryl several times a day for several days and got better. Turns out that I keep coming into contact with something that I am allergic to and that is why it is recurring. It is anaphylaxis.
I talked to my pharmacist and benedryl is like a mini dose of epiniphrine but you have to take the benedryl for a few days until all of whatever you are allergic to is out of your body, I took a half a teaspooon four times a day for about three days. My breathing is back to normal, dizziness is gone, will take some time for the swelling to go back down. I have to go for an allergy test, for me the doctor thinks it is a weed in my yard because it happened bad in the last two weeks after yard work. Try benedryl if you feel better then it is anaphylaxis.

So turns out I am allergic to nightshade plants, tomatoes, poatotes peppers spices with peppers, eggplant etc. The swelling at the base of the neck and trouble breathing is due to the release of histamines which respond well to benadryl. It immediately starts to reduce the swelling and breathing problems. I have now had one day with no night shaded and have not had a reaction at all today.

Hello everyone. It's a good feeling to know that I am not alone with this mystery condition . I have the swelling on both sides also and they also seem to swell bigger when I'm tired or stressed . My doctors don't seem to know what it is either. I do have nodules on both thyroids in the neck but the doctor says the two are not related. If anyone finds out anything please share the information. Thanks.

Hello, I'm from Los Angeles and I have developed this swelling on both sides. It just started and I went to the doctor today. I'm doing blood work for cortisol & xrays for the start of the investigation.

Had another round of cervical steroid injections over two weeks ago. Same symptoms as mentioned here. Several doctors have said, they don't know what it is. So helpful to find your stories. Have swelling everyday and now some evident in anterior upper chest under clavicle. Experienced severe dull pain at base of skull. Looking for answers and new doctors!! Was thinking about detoxing as well.
Also have daily headaches. Was thinking of Botox, but now thinking must clear up the swelling first.
Thank you all!

I have searched the web for several years on this topic & FINALLY, I think I've found someone who's having similar issues! The area of my swelling is the fleshy area above the clavicle. When it swells, it actually makes me look like I'm turning into The Hulk!  It started a few years ago & was only on the left side in the beginning, but during the past few months, I've noticed the right side is beginning to do the same thing. It isn't swollen all the time, & happens so randomly that I can't finger the culprit =/ The swelling itself isn't necessarily painful; only tender to the touch, but on the left side, it's usually always accompanied by swelling behind my ear lobe & underneath my ear on the same side. I've had A LOT of pain in my left shoulder, including in the area of the swelling, as well as in my chest, above the breast & below the clavicle & collarbone. When the pain first started, I feared it was heart related, & went to the ER. Fortunately, heart issues were ruled out, but no answers were found either =/  The continued pain commonly causes the inability to function normally & the lack of answers makes me feel as if I'm losing my mind or that it's all in my head ...even though I know it isn't =(

I have bilateral supraclavicular swellings for at least 6 years. They do increase in size with stress... but strangely they get very large following a back massage. I am almost fifty. Had my thyroid hormone levels checked (within normal limits) but I do often feel low in energy and have very slow metabolism.

I have the exact same thing.........going for a cat scan just to be sure. I hear the only way to rid the neck bubbles is to have it liposuction-ed out. If that works it might take the pressure off the nerves. But who knows

Yes, yes, and yes. Hubby has very enlarged fat pouches on both sides of neck. They started out small last year. He takes Prednisone daily, and the dr has been decreasing, and then increasing. Since increase the lumps are huge. He has also been having Cortisone injections monthly - 2 vials of Cortisone ultra sound directed nerve pain block injections into Axillary nerve under left armpit - June, July, and August.
He has Myasthenia Gravis and it has gotten worse since the Cortisone injections but the pain management dr and the neuro won't believe it is related to the Cortisone. Because his MG got worse, his neuro upped his Prednisone too much. Then another neuro decreased the dosage. Hubby now takes 10 mg of Prednisone daily and he did not have the Cortisone nerve pain block injection in Sept. He has very severe weakness of muscles which is from MG getting worse...

Hi everyone ,I have the same problem. I have been diagnosed with sarcoidosis and my doctor thinks its the steroids that is. Causing the swelling but the swelling actual started before I went on steroids. I have also done all those test mentioned in these posts and all seems to be well. I do experience pain but not from the swelling itself. Someone (a reputable surgeon) told me that what I have is CUSHING SYNDROME. I researched it and found that I share a lot of the symptoms.

I have same thing. Started on left now have on right. Dr said fatty tissue? Didnt sound too sure. Read above about lymphatic draining. My sinuses act up may have infection which is hard to get rid of. Definitely could be stress related! Drainage and stress probably?! Does go up and down!! Dont think dangerous but strange!
