How are you doing now?
Everone who goes through this thinks they are gonna die , its hard to just relax and go on , but thats the key. You will be o k get you some inhalers and zanax or ativan, if you are over weight lose it, it will cut down on your sob by a long time. Good luck.
Hello lilwarlock, I am in pretty good shape, don't use inhalers, hope I never need them, maybe I should not have posted my comment on this topic, I am not having any issues breathing or anything, I just read Irishmommys post and felt inclined to post my story, so she wouldn’t feel alone.
I appreciate the words of encouragement your right, I freak out thinking this will kill me before I am ready, or I will be left lying in bed breathing from an oxygen tank, when I am still young.
Wrong,
There is also a generic hereditary defect that can cause serious emphysema at any age without ever having smoked - and it's usually starts above 25 years old.
Your so right, but 85 % of it is caused from smoking, so get off of the cigs, if you can . Lots of people just can t quit . its a very very hard habit to break. It took me 4 years to quit after smoking for 47 years , and it was tough best of luck to you all, and have a happy new year, Thanks Ralph
I have similar issues. However, my breathing seemed to worsen after I took a strenuous breathing test. I do have COPD. But my breathing was worse after the breathing test and after starting the use of a corticosteroid inhaler. I'm currently swithcing from a corticosteroid inhaler to a non-corticosteroid inhaler. We'll see. I was still smoking when I took the breathing test, but afterwards is when my breathing seemed to worsen. Notice I said seemed. I'm not sure because that's about the time I started the steroid inhaler. I was using Sybicort, now I'm on Day 2 without it and with the use of the Spiriva inhaler. Time will tell. As far as the breathing test, It's called spirometry it's where you blow, blow, blow, blow, and it's very taxing on your lungs. I'm not sure that didn't cause my condition to worsen.
I'm sure the test can stress out your lungs considering all the years of smoking and damage it has cause. I hope things get better for you. I'm on 8 months of my quit and still have shortness of breath a few days or so a week. I think it is more due to anxiety from quitting. Time will tell.

How is the breathing now? Do you get anxiety from it?
I recently quit smoking 2 weeks ago. I am 51 and smoked since college. In the two weeks I've been to ER once and family doc once for breathing problems. It feels like my lower trachea area is always irritated. So I feel every time I inhale. Very scary. I was placed on prednisone and zyban. So far no difference after three days. The ER doctor told me to expect strange feelings for at least one month as lungs are healing. I feel the best when I go to sleep. It seems as soon as I am vertical is when this happens. Has anyone experienced this? Did have chest X-rays etc.. That didn't show anything
I know your post is old, but can u tell me how r u breathing now? I'm going through the same thing as u were on this post. Just want to know if it ever goes away
Yes it will go away, but you must have patience, it could go away in a few days or maybe a few weeks, or maybe a few months, but it will go away, see your dr, for some xrays and a ecg. and get some sleep aids like xanax or ativan and a good inhaler like combivent, good luck, its been almost 16 months for me and i"m still waiting for mine to go away. THANKS RALPH
Being asthmatic should be all the more reason for you to completely stop. I quit cold turkey 18 months ago and it took me a good 12 months to feel normal again. Please just quit. You will feel like you can't catch your breath but that is part of the healing process. That is when anxiety will settle in and make things worse but you need to hang in tough and get past it. Good luck
