I have also had problems for three years with severe pains in my joints transferring around my body, the pain usually lasts about two days and then I can fine for weeks.
The pain never seems to be the same joint twice, it can be in my knee joint, my ankle, my elbow and even my jaw. I have been diagnosed with Palindromic Rheumatism, but I am not so sure.
I have recently kept a record of when I have an attack and it turns out that it occurs after a drinking session.
I have now cut out some Lager beers and the ones which I suspect contain the most chemicals and since reducing my intake of alcohol I have had no pain for 6 months.
Dear Charlie
Very useful, thanks. I live in Rome and been drinking a bottle of red or white wine a day all my life. I put my knee stiffness and getting up from a crouched position normally difficult and a wee bit painful. I put this down to a food allergy but never discovered which and I never ever associated it with wine. I am 73, going strong but enjoy being fit. I am going to cut out wine for a few weeks and see how it goes. It is going to be difficult and I hope I do not get bad tempered. Will be back again in 3 weeks to report
Hi guys,
I've had the problem with sore joints the next day after drinking for more then ten years. R.A. has alot to do with it, also been diagnosed with a rare type of R.A. affecting ussually young man 18 to 25 years old is when it starts, called A.S. Ankolysing Spondalites ( not shure how to spell it). It took 4 years to be diagnosed with it. doctors could not figure it out at first. Also found that clear alcohols dont affect as much like (vodka). Hope its helpfull and talk to your doctor.
i just got up , pain my knees after 2:30 am . yesterday I drank red wine> i just wonder knees pain cause red wine ?
Glad I found this website , my knees have been killing me most of the time ... I've had cortisone and plant based injections , they work for awhile.. But not long enough , trying to figure out myself .. My knees do hurt after I drink wether a little or more.. I drink plenty of water and workout a lot everyday.. So I am always hydrated ... Starting to think its the alcohol ..I love my glass of wine after along days work of standing all day.. But usually one or two ... Worried should I give up for trial ? Anyone else do that experiment ??
Hi there!
I have arthritis and I've been noticing severe pain in my back, hip and knee after drinking 2 or 3 glasses of wine. I also get some minor pain in other joints. I'm not sure when it starts but, I really think it's related. It's the next day for sure. What a bummer! I'm going to cut down to having one glass of wine now and then to see how that goes. I wonder if the lubricated joints get overly cleansed and dried by the alcohol.

I just read that red wine has sulfate that can be the cause and other chemicals to make dry red wines.. cerian brands of wine have less chemicals then others..
Well there goes my steady vice of Red Wine in the evenings. The strange thing is, I used tell my wife I need my red medicine cause my bone/joint aches are maxing out. I noticed last night I did not have shoulder pain, and 20 minutes after my second glass of wine I winced getting up from the fireplace. So I look at it this way...I have been medicating with my Merlot or Cab to mask the pain when in-fact they are the culprits. Great...Now what ? Bye Bye vino. Thanks for this post. G.
Greetings- I too have recently started experiencing some knee/jointg problems in the past six months . I'm not sure if it's the alcohol or just life-style. We are part of a hugh diverse social group of people young and old who routinely gather on the weekends, ride motorcycles, drink beer and generally have allot of good times. We've all been doing this for about 15 yeares now. Several of the people are talented rock musicians, hence there's alway options for dancing if they're playing somewhere. There's also allot of standing as everyone typically stands around, drinks and talks. My wife and I also work out 3-6 times a week. I've been working out for about seven years now to include tread mill and some mild leg weight training. (I started because my Dad died 7 years younger than I am today resultant of weight and heart problems.) Lastly, I will turn 60 this year. So, it's hard to tell if it's the alcohol, active life-style or just getting a little older. It appears to be more pronounced after a long weekend but I think it could be cool weather related too. Also, I think the work-outs are what has allowed us to continue being as active as we are. We still work full time but really enjoy our weekends with friends. I hate to slow down just because my knees are starting to bother me, but I don't want to make it worse by continuing with things that may be detrimental long term. As of now, dull knee pain is a small sacrifice to pay for the good friends, beer and camaraderie. I suspect it will get worse with time, just difficult to know what to give up. I hate to admit it, I may be getting older.
Hi siroje- What beers have you found that seem to work the best for you?
I drink around a bottle of scotch and 5 beers every night and I always awaken with a sore body, sometimes even a bloody nose! My joints also ache over the entire day, but soon disappear after a few stiff scotches. I've awoken with broken digits on occasion too. Very strange.
My wife says it's mainly from falling down the stairs, but I don't believe her.
Very similar over last 5 years or so.. Started with right shoulder then left ...and I could barely walk due to right foot pain each time in differnet part of foot., and had a trouble getting up from chair especially from a bed in the morning.. Never wanted to compare it to alcohol I did really enjoy, which probably acted as a "fuel" to body to bring energy and joy but nothing else. After one morning I decided to have just 2 glasses per week or less, and now first time can feel better every day.
Well here it is 2013, a new post, My left knee is very painful after drinking Knob Creek just 2oz two nights in a row. It was great to find this site. With so many people having the same problem after drinking it must be so. I am 72 and have not had any problems with drinking and pain in the pass, but things change. In a couple of days when the pain quits I will try drinking somthing different and see what happens. Knob Creek is a new drink for me 50% alc. might just be to strong for my body.
