CAUSES OF SWOLLEN LIPS

I know this may seem crude and no one here has had same problem, but after a sexual experience my top lip became very swollen and is appearing to have teeth imprints on, was it just from biting my lip too hard? as it is now numb. I do not know whether to panic or not, any help or advice would be appreciated.

Like many of you, I am experiencing swollen lips. This started for me 5 days ago. I woke up with my lips being about 3 times their normal size. They are very chapped feeling , and when they swell, they itch very badly. I have no sores or anything like that. Throughout the day, the swelling goes down some, but as soon as i go to sleep, it happens again. It's very frusterating. I went to the doctors and they gave me a steroid shot, as well as suggested I take benedryl, with nothing helping. I'm so frusterated. Please help!!!!!

NEWER use Vaseline on your lips! It makes it worse

Best to use HONEY it gives terrific result & NEVER EVER chop your lips which can lead to more severe infection

This is a good point. Vaseline is a petroleum product, derived from crude oil. Is is not biologically acceptable at all....

This topic has been going on for a year? I still haven't seen a solution.  I am currently experiencing the swollen, itchy, chapped lips with the red perimeter.  It's torture!!  I live in Hawaii, so at first I thought maybe I sunburned my lips, but that has proven to not be the case.  This has been going on for over 2 weeks.  Has anyone from the past posts found a solution?  HELP!!!

I have this same problem, the best thing to do to reduce the swelling is put freezing cold ice on you lips it reduces the spellig alot. then dry your lips off ( make sure that their VERY dry) then let then set for about an hour. after the hour is over put on maximum strength hydrocortazone on your lips and rub in. do this every 4-6 hours each day until head. :)

I am a 19 year old male and I have had thi problem before. I did discover the cause of this and it is a reaction to makeup. I was in the school play and I got it the morning after every performance which was obvious that it was the makeup so try to figure out which makeup it is or go to an allergy clInic.

I had this problem as a child it was infantigo and I almost die from the swelling but this spread to my entire face.

I have the exact same problem and I am thinking it has something to do with too much salt in my diet. So I am trying to cut back to see if it helps. Good luck

I have the same symptoms, I noticed the swelling, painful lips came after I had a common cold. I have checked it up and it seems it is viral in nature and related to the Herpes Simples variation. Supposedly 80 percent of the adult population have Herpes in America and you can get it simply by a dirty fork or glass. It is that easy to get and that is why everyone has a variation of Herpes in their system. That being said it is highly contagious, though I haven't given it to my kids, - I guess since I always wash my hands and try to be as hygienic as possibe. The cure -  DMSO is the only known cure for Herpes, though the doctors for some reason don't know about it. Maybe because they are not taught this in Med school and such don't prescribe it. I buy mine on line at Vitacost but any on line place is fine, it's cheap and it stops all painful lips symptoms immediately. Below is basic info about DMSO.

Treatment Regimen

Application

DMSO is applied topically to the affected area. The topical treatment is available in scented creams, aloe based creams.
