After taking one month off the grog, I went back on pretty much solid for a month. Silly move and i'm really paying for it now.. At the moment im currently four days sober and suffering horrible chest pains. Especially when lying down trying to go to sleep.. Pain is always around the left to middle of my chest. When it gets quite intense it can send me into a state of panic and thus have to try and take deep breathes all the time. Its weird, but the chest pain seems connected to my left testicle. I have experienced this before and described it to my GP who gave me an ECG ect to be safe, but quickly diagnosed me with acid reflux. He told me to lay of the booze and my love for hot chilli type foods.

Its now almost 7am on day 4 and I haven't slept a wink at all and I have to drive for an hour to go and sit through a day of tattooing. This really sucks!! Hate that my mates can do this type of drinking and not suffer the side effects like me!!! LoL.

Hope this chest pain passes sooner then later. Not fun!!! :-(

3 day hangovers are now the norm for me, and they are ruining my life so I am quitting the drink. Used to be able to drink ok in my 20s and shake it off, but now in my 30s I feel truly awful for 3 days. It feels like withdrawal, anxiety, fear and these breathing problems that come and go for 3 days where I feel like I can't catch my breath. I don't sleep, and fatigue so bad I can't do anything. I just feel like I am falling apart or dying after I've been drinking, my mind gets all foggy and I feel like I have a mental block, or perhaps it's just alcohol causing depression. It's really not normal and it's my body telling me to stop as it's not able for it anymore. It takes me a good week to feel myself again.

Sometimes it's so bad I've had to leave a friends to go home as I feel like I am about to drop dead as I can't breath properly. But it only ever happens in the days after I drink alcohol. I went out a about a month ago 4 days after a binge, and I had to turn back and go home as I couldn't breath just walking down the street. I know what you people are going through.

drinking to much is very dangerous, you are poisoning your body and the older you get the worse it is going to affect you as you are chipping away at your health over the years, hammering it with booze. I know giving up drinking can seem like a terrible thing to people who use it to socialize, but what is the alternative, a life of pure misery after every drink?, I can't live with these hangovers anymore, it's a nightmare. So I have to stop drinking. And cutting down is not a option, once I have a drink that's it for me, I drink all day and night if I could.

I hope all of you can one day stop drinking and rid yourselves of this horrible problem. Quitting is the only solution, I've tried everything, walking, working out, eating right and taking vitamins, sports drinks after drinking, nothing works for me. Only a break from the alcohol makes me feel better.

When you feel the pain in your chest in bed, sit up and try to bring up wind, I found this was the problem I was having with chest pain in bed, trapped wind, it can make you feel like you are having a heart attack when it rises up into your chest area.

Everyone, I've been a 10 year sufferer! It's anxiety caused by binge drinking. Of course drinking less helps, but where's the fun in that? What I found cured me is slghtly unorthodox - I went gluten free and my panic attacks have dissapeared even after a binge. Google it if you think I'm crazy - but there is a link between gluten and anxiety. Good luck all.

I have had most of the symptoms you have described. Over the past ten years I have been in and out of the emergency room, only to be told that my blood work and all test were normal. After many many searches online, I finally came across the answer to my issues. Beer, and every other form of alcoholic beverages (especially wine) Contain Tannins, which turned out to be the cause of my symptoms....... chest pain, joint pain, anxiety, shortness of breath, fatigue, diarrhea and on and on..... Tannins aren't just in alcohol, they are in other things such as berries, grapes, nuts, tea and many other things, especially coffee(decaf or reg) Tannin allergy is not all that uncommon and I suspect that many of you on here are Tannin sensitive. I have been practically symptom free, unless I purposely indulge in something I know contains tannins, but other than my self inflicted stupidity, I have been nearly symptom free and my life has greatly improved. Good luck everyone, Hope I helped.  Rob

I am experiencing the same issue. I am a severe asthmatic and I have been seeing a thoracic and lung specialist for about a year. If these symptoms are occurring after a big binge session on alcohol and it appears that it is affecting your lungs and liver (of course), you might very well have a genetic disorder called alpha trypsin deficiency. It's normally not tested for and you need to ask your doctor for specific blood tests but it is well worth it. If you have a serious case (mine is mild) you have to ease off alcohol considerably as you are more susceptible to liver disease and emphysema of the lungs. This is the reason why my asthma has returned viciously in my late 20's.

I have had the same problem for years. I also have asthma. I have gone to many doctors, had what felt like a heart attack, been tested and everything is fine. I drink 3-4 nights a week and I switched from beer to whiskey with cranberry. My doctor said it was esophogitis and I take Prilosec. It helps sometimes. Last week I drank 8 beers and suffered for 4 days, during a camping trip no less. I felt better after we got back. I drink water all day long. I think the only answer is to stop drinking alcohol. It comes and goes. Sometimes I can drink 4 nights in a row, sometimes I get chest pains and have trouble breathing the next day. I will try and drink water while I drink alcohol.

This is happening to me right now. Usually I know what I can or cannot drink. But the other day, I tried something new and I fell asleep without drinking any water. NEVER go to sleep without drinking any water after a long night of drinking! So I woke up with a bad hang over and had to vomit multiple times. 24 hrs later, I have this heavy chest feeling. Its a mild irritating feeling along my throat and chest. Its not a horrible feeling but you know something is not right. This seems to happen only because I vomited. When you vomit, all the acids and bacteria goes up and out of your mouth. Naturally, these things are not meant to go out of our mouths so when we vomit excessively, some of that bacteria can disturb our lungs and irritate our throat...I have asthma too so I was probably more sensitive to vomiting as well. I used an inhaler, drank a lot of water, and just going to sleep it off for tonight. However, if this feeling gets worst, I will go to the doctors as soon as possible to get some sort of antibiotics because the bacteria or virus or whatever might spread out too much in my lungs and I don't what it to become a big problem since I know I have asthma. When it gets bad, it gets really bad...so treat it as soon as possible!

this is exactly what I am going through.. It's been two days since I drank a pint of vodka.. I can't get comfortable in bed or breathe in a relaxed manner. Drinking lots and lots of water is the only think I've found to help. I've been on and off with prilosec (for weeks at a time) and haven't noticed much help if any at all.. I'm going to try to force myself to drink lots of water now.. I've read that dehydration from drinking can cause symptoms associated with a panic attack. like chest tightness and trouble breathing.

Does anyone suffer from itchy skin after drinking?

I drank most days for the past 8/9 months and stopped 2 days ago and that night I had itchy skin, slight shortage of breath and mild right sided chest pains.

I think it is to do with alcohol withdrawal from long spells of regular drinking.

I came here searching for answers on concerns I have regarding many of the symptoms described by many here... Reflecting now it sort of seems blindingly obvious we should just listen to our bodies and stop drinking...

Jesus this is the only  site ive found people with the same symptoms , i do stupidly smoke and take ventolin regularly and id put away the jars once or twice a week. Next day is followed by an agonizing sharp pain in my heart or around the heart area maby 4 or 5 times when   suffering with the hangover in the evening and forgetting to breath  , its horrible when your in the  horrors after drinking  when your going to sleep and your body seems to loose the function to breath.
