hi my son is on day 6 post opp, he is 5 years old and i know he needed the opp cause his tonsils were so big and he got ill alot but he is going through a horrible time, he is in so much pain and is barely eating or drinking he has had to go back to the hospital cause of blood in the nose and and have a ambulance called at 4 in the morning when his nose was gushing blood, he is crying all the time and is so sad and is not himself at all. he is now constipated and the whole thing has so far been the worst 6 days ever for all of us expecially him. i know they say that it is different for every child and im really hoping that every morning will bring a better day. he did need the opp and i know it will get better but the only reason for telling you all the worst bits is to make sure you have as much help and support you can. we was led to belive that day 3 would be the worst but it has been getting worse every day so far. im sorry im not been more helpful i just feel so helpless for my baby boy. i really hope your experience is better.
We are on day 6 post op, been waking him every 4 hrs for pain meds but thinking of seeing how it goes tonight. Thoughts??
Thank you so much for posting this!! It is my 6 year old son to a T!! We are on day 5 and fearing the worse for the next day or two... middle of the night is the worst part, so hard to see my baby in such pain. Thank you again and praying for day 8 when all (hopefully) will be better and we can put this all behind us! Hoping your daughter is a healthier kid now post surgery??
YES YES YES! Thank you so much for this post! I am so glad to see that I am not alone. My 5 year old daughter had her tonsils and adenoids out 5 days ago. It has been pure hell for all of us, mainly her. Day 1-She screamed non-stop after her surgery until we got her home in her bed. She took a 15-20 nap. After the nap, she was up playing and eating soft foods. We are alternating advil/tylenol every 3-4 hours. Everything was great. I was hopeful. Then, that night all hell broke loose. She whimpered and cried for a couple of hours while she slept. Then can the vomit...and then the bloody vomit after that. We panicked and called the doctor at 2 am. He said that she should be ok unless she was actively bleeding from her mouth or nose. We had her suck on some ice which seemed to work. Ever since then, she is up every 1-2 hours screaming at the top of her lungs. She is in so much pain it is as if she doesn't even see us. She screams help me and help me calm down. She grabs her head, neck, and/or ears and flails around. She refuses to take her medicine or drink which makes it worse. She has not has any food in 5 days. She uses the restroom twice a day, and maybe drinks 4-8 ounces of fluids a day. I don't know how much either of us can take of the screaming and howling. We are all sleep deprived. I demanded to see the surgeon again today. He said everything looked fine, but gave her a steroid to help with the inflammation. She is still not eating or drinking. We are all at our breaking point. While I was typing this, she told me that she was hungry. She has refused everything I offer her. She won't even swallow her own spit. my personal opinion is that this is not an out patient surgery. She needs iv fluids and drugs. This tylenol/advil is not getting the job done.
