Hi, just a couple of queries that may help me and others. I have had the same symptoms on and off but steadily increasing as time goes on. I recently caught the flu which really affected my Lymph nodes, swallowing became a nightmare and i also have ear pain and cracking noises around my ear.
I realise that a flu/cold can cause swollen nodes, but i had previous issues with swallowing and swollen nodes around the neck and jaw. This issue seemed to coincide with my wisdom teeth attempting to errupt without any space. I can feel a constant pressure around the teeth and jaw which is worse on my right side. The right lymph node is always worse so i have linked my issue to my teeth and have researched this avenue and have found supporting info on the subject.
I was wondering if anyone else feels this could also be a contributing factor.

i have had a thyroid test and it came back negative and the just did a ultrasound on the outside of my throat and i am waiting for the results. the person doing the ultrasound sais she can't be sure but it does look like lymph nodes are enlarged but she can't say for certain as the results have to go to a radiologist.
and i have got to say it sucks! the lymph nodes are constantly swollen and sometimes i even have a hard time to swallow and sometimes feel like my airway is cut off. I gag cause i sometimes can't breathe. i have had thyroid test done and they came back negative i just had a ultrasound on the outside of my throat today and am still waiting for results. I'm thinking that it's cancer or a tumor because i have taken antibiotics and it didn't go away. i am a smoker so that increases my chances of having cancer. but i don't smoke that much maybe 4 or 5 cigarettes a day. my doctor suggested that if the ultrasound came back negative to do a swallowing test. but i think the ultrasound showed something, or at least i am praying it did. because i'm tired of all the pain and swelling that is going on. i have even lost my appetite and have gained alot of weight in the past year. this is why i thought it was my thyroid. until i get the test back i won't know for sure. but please pray they find whats wrong!
I still have yet to find out the results of my CAT scan. However, I have made what I think is an important discovery regarding my chronic sore throat. I have been trying three different things and so far the pain is reduced to almost nil. First, I have been taking Gaviscon after every meal and before going to bed. Secondly, I started taking glucosomine with chondroitin and MSM. Thirdly, I have discovered quite by accident, that the top of my head near the side near the back is very sore. I was using a small vibrator on my scalp and when I hit this area the pain was really sharp and localized. So I took my fingers and started massaging this area and my sore throat disappeared briefly! After awhile it started again and so I did the same thing and it again went away.
I did some research on the internet and this area of the scalp has a big muscle called the TEMPOROPARIETIALIS muscle. There seems to be a trigger point there and when I press down hard to fatigue the muscle, this somehow relieves my sore throat pain. I don`t understand how this is making my throat sore but perhaps there is a nerve there or this is like an accupressure point. Or perhaps this muscle is somehow tightening from stress and worry and causing a muscle imbalance in the head, shoulder, neck muscles. Anyway, perhaps other sufferers can try this and see what happens.

It seems like what I caught is some sort of virus that the doctors haven't been able to detect. It all started with neck pain on the right side, also I started having heartburn. All sort of tests have been done, Brain MRI, Cervical spine MRI, endoscopy for acid reflux symptoms. I have two pinched nerves on the right side and two bulged discs, but the neurologist thinks that it is not related with the swollen lymph node or abcessed gland under my ear. He also found a pineal cyst 3 mm in size, I will have to have a second MRI done 3 months from now to see if it hasn't grown. At night I have lots of pain on the right side and the ringing in the ear gets worse, it also comes accompanied by dizziness. The biopsy done in my upper intestine (stomache) did not show any bacteria, the doctor says it might have been cured with the nexium. For the ear problem (stuffy ear, ringing in the ear, swollen or absecced lymph node) there is no solution so far. I finally was ordered an MRI of the right side of my neck, ear, jaw area because the Ear, Nose, throat doctor believes it will show if I have a damaged nerve, sinus infection, or if the swollen lymph node is an abcessed gland in the parotid gland located underneath the ear. I hope that on my next appointment there is a solution to my problem because it is driving me crazy. I can't concentrate at work. I haven't been exercising yet I have lost about 10 lbs. Maybe because I can't eat anything greasy. I feel so helpless to think that the doctors cannot help me. My next step will be to go to an endocrinologist if nothing is detected in the MRI of the soft tissue of my neck (right side). I hope that this is of help to anyone experiencing the same problem.
well the ultrasound showed that my thyroid nodules were enlarged but that still didn't explain the lymph nodes. i am sheduled to have a thyroid uptake test next week. the uptake test tells if you are getting to much or not enough of the tsh hormone in your system which helps with metabolism.

you can google thyroid scan, thyroid diseases etc. to find out more information. conifer yours is kind of interesting because the patuitary gland is at the base of the brain, which produces the tsh hormone. so this could very well be your problem ask the doctor to do a thyroid uptake test and go from there.
dreadzboy, I think you may be right, the node could be from your wisdom tooth. I hope you go to a dentist and get that taken care of. I am sure you will be glad you did. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
Coniferblack, I have been taking prilosec, but will try gaviscon for my acid reflux.
Glucosomine is for joints and cartlidge, I don't see how that could help. I cant't take it because it contains shellfish bones and stuff and will cause problems for me, So I take Hyaluronic Acid instead. I just started taking it so I don't know how it will effect me. About the pressure point on the head, why don't you talk to an massage therapist and see what you can find out about it. Let us know what your CT says.

I hope you can find something out soon, I know it is no picnic for any of us. I know how you feel, it is driving me crazy too. I just had CBC and throat swab and everything came back negitive. I think my next step will be to find someone to stick a scope down my throat. Not only is this driving me crazy, it is bankrupting me, I have no inusrance, and I have not worked in two months due to a severly sprained ankle, caused by some antibiotics that cause week tendons. I hope we can all get to the bottom of this soon.

I don't know what the above post didn't have my screen name displayed,

but that was from me,
Painful1
I have had swelling in the right side of my neck for years, and pain in right ear as well. I'm set up for a CT. My wife believes the right side of my neck is just larger than the left. It is smaller in the mornings, and gets larger as the day goes on. It's also very hard to not touch it all day, because your are scared the death of what it could be.
i quit smoking recently. i had been smoking weed and cigs for about ten years. recently after kicking smoking both things for around three months i have had a pain in one of my lymph nodes in the right side of my neck. they have been swollen before but it seems like the swelling was from smoking to much because they have not been swollen since i quit. it just really really hurts in one spot. if i turn my head, yawn, swallow, almost any action and it hurts. i thought maybe it would go away just like the swollen nodes did but its been on going for about a week. i dont have a sore throat, i dont feel sick at all. i thought "well im only 25, it wouldnt be cancer" but i guess that was pretty stupid to think after reaading one persons post on here about being told he/she had cancer at 25. im kinda scared to go to the doctor just because i dont wanna be told i have cancer and i dont want to have to pay a giant medical bill considering im in the process of paying one now. its all just a bit stressfull to think about.
Mine also seems smaller in the mornings then worse in the eve. I know it is hard not to touch it but try not too. Be very gentel with it if you must touch it. It sounds like yours is in the same location as mine, (the jugulogastric node) near the jugular vien.
They want to remove mine but I would like to know what it is before I go that route. The tests that I had done say it is likely not cancer. But I will continue to persue this in the fastest way I possibly can. I now discovered that my thymus gland is also swollen, I have a doc appt. on 1/22. I hope the will do some more test.
I am glad to hear that you kicked that habits. That is great, you should be very proud of yourself.
I have the same feeling when I turn my neck and swollow.......ouch!
There is a good chance that it is not cancer, but to be sure you must go to a doc and keep going to docs until you find out. Get severel opions. Go to docs in different areas. I have been to ones all in the same town and I swear the are communicating with each other and saying the same exact things. They probably play golf together or something.
I know how you feel about the money thing, I have no insurance and I live paycheck to paycheck, but I'll be damned if I going to live with this condition any longer than I have to. I have developed a good relationship with the hospital and the are working with me on payments.
The other docs are as well. Money isn't everything. I would rather be healthy and in debt than, sick and not in debt.
If we all keep persuing this, we will eventually get some answeres. Good luck, god bless and keep in touch.

This response comes rather late, but might I suggest you research two things: candida (yeast) and chronic fatigue syndrome. I have suffered from most of the symptoms you've described and have learned that they are related to candida and CFS. Good luck. I know how you feel
I just want to suggesjt trying a vegan diet
