I am following up on my original post - about a month and a half after the removal of my paragard. I have no more UTI signs after sex with my partner! It is such a relief! Unfortunately I had to go back on the pill but I would take the risks from it rather than the constant UTI preventative measures and pain killers (and was not able to avoid the damn infections anyways). The copper iud is a promise for heavy periods, back aches, copper toxicity and constant UTI.

I have the non hormonal IUD as well and I still get everything. bacterial vaginosis, UTI's, yeast infections. I literally never had one before in my life until I got this IUD. I am glad I found this post I am going to get it out ASAP, I have had it in for over 2 years now, I never even thought it could be my IUD until i got a UTI yesterday without having sex.

I firmly believe an IUD can cause UTI. It seemed as though I endured UTI almost weekly ! It was torture. Had it removed three months ago and no more UTI. What a relief it is.

Hi, Oracle. Did you ever find an answer to your question? It's exactly what I'm wondering! Thanks!

Thank you for the follow up! Are you still experiencing success with no more UTIs after the Paragard removal?

Hi,
I had paragard for 2 years. I never had to deal with uti before but after the insertstion of paragard the chronic UTIs began. I was constantly taking D mannose, cranberry juice, and over the counter pain killers for uti to prevent it and I would still get them. I have decided to get rid of it 3 months ago and all complains are gone. I think that the problem may be that the E. coli get attached to the strings or the IUD (no matter what kind the Iud is) and during sex are transmitted to the bladder.

I personally have not had a single uti after the paragard was removed. During the time I had the paragard I suffered from chronic uti.

Not a single uti months after the removal!
But I am trying to figure out the right pill now and it has been a wild ride of emotions with the first two options that my doctor prescribed :( she wants to convince me to try the hormonal IUD.

Me too. Just figured it out today so Saturday it's out for good!

I had my Mirena taken out almost 4 months ago. I was having chronic UTI's. I had UTI's in the past after intercourse, but I was getting them without intercourse with the Mirena. I think it helped to have it taken out. My guess is that it made it more likely for me to get a UTI. Although I did continue to get them from intercourse, and am now taking antibiotics afterward to prevent them. At least it's peace of mind knowing that I'm removing any contributing factors. My body is different too now that the Mirena is not interfering with my hormones. It's not fun to have my period back, and I am getting more acne on my chin. But I'm 44, and I feel like I'm more in tune with the natural hormonal changes in my body. I would prefer to go through menopause this way. Although it is a bit of a bummer to go back to using condoms :P

After reading this thread while in agony with my 4th UTI in 3 months following my IUD insertion (copper, done at a fertility clinic), I had mine removed and cultured. It came back positive for E coli. I then found this medical journal article with more information: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4291936/. Please ladies, do not allow a doctor to tell you that your IUD cannot be causing your UTI's. It's simply NOT the truth.

I am so glad I found someone who feels the same way... I had mines put in about a year ago and i'm constantly treating myself for UTI'S!!! I hate the feeling and the constant lower back pain is too much to bear. There just has to be a better way.
