Don't feel bad about this problem. I have it too and my job requires that I sit quietly with other people in my office all day. I have learned that sometimes if I just remember that all bodies make noise and that it is just a part of being human - this usually allows me to relax and continue on with what I am doing. Most people do understand and if they see you blow it off they more than likely will also. It also allows you to not get so stressed about it and sometimes even this can help! Stress seems to make my problem worse - relaxing makes it better!! Hope this helps!

The same happens to me. It started when I wrote exams in the hall in grade 7. Bern happening ever since. I almost faint when I have to attend a meeting. Tried everything under the sun. It gets worst when I am anxious.

Function
Peristalsis, the muscular contractions that move food along the digestive tract, is the most common cause of borborygmi. As food travels through the stomach, small intestine and large intestine, it breaks down and gas is produced. The sound you hear is the food and gas being pushed through your body through peristalsis. Such bowel sounds are completely normal. In fact, the absence of bowels sounds can indicate that your digestive tract is not working properly.

Triggers
When it's been a while since you last ate, your hypothalamus sends a signal that tells you you're hungry. When that signal reaches your stomach and intestines, muscle contractions increase and digestive fluids are released. This is when your stomach rumbles. Your body is getting ready for its next meal. Sometimes this process can be triggered simply by the smell or sight of food, even if you've just eaten.

Now 32, I've realized I've been having stomach noises, heavy bloating, and other issues such as constipation going on since my early 20's. Like most of you, I've had very embarrassing moments, especially in school and other quite places and events- crawl up and die moments. lol.  Last year, I consulted with a nurse nutritionist friend of mine. She helped me trigger what may be the problem according to my diet at the time- either gluten intolerant or celiac disease.

Since then, I've done my best to to stick to a gluten free diet, which could be nearly impossible, especially when you're a total foodie person. But, I've disciplined myself enough to have one "cheat day" of eating something not so bad. Since then, my stomach war noises and constipation has gone down drastically. Though, the noises still come around usually right after I eat something- but not as intense as it used to be.

My daily diet consists of fresh fruit and veggies (spinach and carrots), GF protein powder, and nuts in smoothy form for breakfast, and fresh eating for lunch and dinner- usually baked chicken or fish, and veggies using GF sauces to make things taste better.

I do make it a point to eat probiotics such as Fage sugar yogart. I usually add honey and fruit to it. I also eat much more fruits for my snacks; apples, bananas, pears.

Exercise is very important. I've noticed that when I'm more active, my stomach settles better and won't create war noises as much as I do when I don't work out.

Stay away from processed foods. EAT fresh foods ppl. Gluten intolerance takes months to over a year for your intestines to heal (if gluten is your case). Though, gluten will cause this stomach issue with anyone- especially bloating. BTW- when you eat gluten, drink lots of water and eat fruits like there's no tomorrow.

Some people react by vomitting, diarrhea, skin rashes, and other worse symptoms. So try to cheer up a bit. :)

Laughing here while reading at your comment. Am in the same shoes. While typing this comment my tummy is very noisy. It's irritating. Lol. I was scared also as I thought I was the only one in the world having this problem. Lol. But when I try to check it here, wow, am suprised, there are couple who are having the same issue as well. At least, we're not alone. I was starting to worry coz the noise is really bothersome. But now that I read some of the comments at least I have some ideas now on how to treat this embarassing noises in my tummy. Lol. Thanks to the people who shared the same experience.

I also have the rumbling stomach problem and I also do smoke weed. I've noticed the rumblings are not as bad once I'm high since I feel more relaxed, I wouldn't recommend as a treatment though... I mean you're not gonna get high 24/7 just to make the noises less worse.

I found for myself trapped gas and gurgling was due to inflammation, so the gas could not escape. All foods make gas and when the intestines are inflamed they tighten and gas stays trapped and gurgles back and forth looking for a way out. What worked for me was to remove all dairy from my diet, even butter. I think I am intolerant to some protein or something done in the processing of dairy. So when I removed dairy my symptoms drastically got better.

So maybe you are intolerant to some type of food you are eating. I would for sure consider 1. dairy 2. sulfites (in dried fruit and spices and condiments, in wine, and grapes) 3. soy 4. nuts 5. sugar. In general it is a good idea to stay away from laxatives like oxalic acid (rhubarb, figs, beets) for sustained time periods. Also generally a reasonable eating schedule helps to, like don't eat after midnight.

Hope this helps.

If you are a woman, try inserting a tampon at night into your vagina that has been dipped in plain yogurt with live cultures. You will hear lots of rumbling as the yeast begin to die. In the morning remove the tampon. You should now be okay. It may take several nights of this procedure to kill all of the yeast. Also, cut down on sugar, alcohol and bread and yeast products. These foods and beverages feed yeast which make your problems worse.

Most of the time the noisey gut is is a result of your digestive pH being out of balance. You can test this wil pH strips to measure your body pH.  If you are too acidic which you probably are, try bromelain or devil's claw - you'll have to try one and then the other for a while to see which works best for you. You'll also need a good probiotic with either of these.

Sounds like your pH has become out of balance in your digestive tract which plays havoc on your digestive flora. I suggest testing your pH a few times per day and keeping a record to see if pH extremes (particularly acidic extremes), coincide with rumblings. If so, I suggest either bromelain or devil's claw as digestive aids - you'll have to see which works best for you over time. Also, always take a good probiotic supplement in either case. Once your pH comes into line, the probiotic will finish off any remaining issues.

Hello, I am 21 and have this same problem. Sometimes I even have to leave my college classes early because the noise is so embarrassing. I take gas-x, probiotics, as well as lactase pills because I am lactose intolerant. They help but do not eliminate the problem completely. My plan is to start writing down my diet to see if I can see any patterns in what can be causing it. But this is truly a problem, I feel uncomfortable basically all of the time. I also think stress makes it worse, the more embarrassed I get in class, the worse it gets.

Ive had this priblen as well but recently it has calmed down. All i did was make sure to eat a small snack like maybe some poptarts every once in a while and to make sure to drink lots of water. Also stay away from soda and foods that contain a lot of gas or spices.
