Re; Numbness of front left thigh. I have this too. To my knowledge unless its effecting the lateral aspect of the thigh then its not Meralgia paraesthetica. If its the front of the thigh its lightly to be localised entrapment. I have a cyst (3cm in diameter) that l believe is pressing on the nerve that supplies the skin in that area. I am medically trained, but self-diagnosis isnt great, that said as everyone on this site suggests medically there isnt on the internet about this subject. A colleague had the same and theirs responded to massage and stretching. Im about to pay privately for a lumbar spine MRI and MRI of the thigh to look to see if the cyst is touching the nerve. It will drive me nuts otherwise. Ive put up with ut for months. Will keep you posted. Oh and disc herniation in the upper lumbers can cause simular symptoms but your muscles would normally be affected too.

If you have any back related problems or a herniated disc, it's because of that.  Hurt my back one day and it put me down for a while and I over time as I got better I felt this sudden numbness in my thigh, small at first. The only pain I feel when it hasn't gone away feels more like I just bruised it.  There are stretches that are supposed to help you cope, haven't tried them at the risk of doing more damage because I have no health care but that might change soon. If you have any back pain and feel that numbness in your leg I recommend you go to the doctor if possible, you could have hurt something without knowing it and a doctor will help you make sure not to aggravate it further.

I have the same spot, it is in the exact location where my front left pocket hangs, the same pocket I carry my cell phone in do you think their is anything related to that? I am just learning how devastating the microwaves from radiation are with anything cordless

I love my mobile phone and use it for business all the time but! I do get pain on whatever side thigh my mobile phone sits in my pocket. There is no doubt that mobiles are not good for you, but a necessary part of life now. If the phone is on my belt I have no pain but in it is in the left pocket I get pain on the left side but if it is in the right pocket I get pain on the right side. Whether it is because of the battery or radiation or radio frequency I don't care but this is a problem which needs to be addressed by phone companies at some stage. Does anyone know of the best iPhone5 cover to use that helps?

Hello. I am searching for answers to my medical condition (the same as you have described). Have you seen a doctor about it or have you found out the reason (s) for numbness in the outer thigh area. My condition is on the left thigh.

I too have the numbness in my upper right thigh I had it years ago when I was on my feet standing in one position for too long, I went for nerve testing and had different treatments done. Nothing worked, I changed jobs and it went away. I am now pregnant and it has returned, stretching helps a little but it keeps me up at night. I asked my OB about it she said it was called pocket numbness and occurs when nerves get compressed by the inguinal ligament in the groin. I'm not sure how to stretch the ligament and I hope resolves after the baby is born.

Actually reassuring to hear your stories on numbness in the front of left thigh.  Mine started 10 years ago.  Pain/sensitivity has mostly subsided.  But over the last couple of years I've feeling like my left thigh front muscle is weakening.  Has anyone sensed that?  I'm a60 year old female, moderately fit.

I have recently been keeping my mobile phone in my right front trouser pocket (it has a pedometer and I have been using it to track my daily exercise). I have a developed a severe numb feeling in my outer thigh that exactly corresponds to where the phone was located. Very recently I could feel the numbness developing soon after putting the phone in my pocket. I have now stopped this practice; however, the numbness has continued. I hope I have not caused any permanent damage and the 'injury' will heal itself

Hello, I have the exact same problem, mine started just this morning when I woke up, out of nowhere. No back pain, no injury, no cell phone in my pocket, nothing. The numb patch is located on the front part of my upper left thigh, the size of a palm. Why is it always the left thigh? At least that's the case in most of your comments. Has anybody had any luck figuring out what this is? Meralgia paraesthetica is supposed to affect the side part of the thigh.

I have had spreading numbness in my left thigh for a couple of years. It is right where I keep my mobile phone in my pocket. Doctor didn't know what it was and I didn't connect it with my phone until I suddenly wondered if there was a connection. Took the phone out and it gradually disappeared. Now I realise there IS a connection and whenever I move my phone from that pocket the numbness subsides. People on here probably have different causes for their numbness but in my case it was definitely the phone causing it.

This post needs to be given some serious thought. I noticed a year ago I was getting numbness in the thigh. I brushed it off thinking it was just the bodys way of saying I was over working it. It wasnt until I noticed it would only occur when I had my mobile phone was in my pocket.. Ever since I started putting my mobile in my bag or jacket pocket I dont get the numbness anymore. I know this sounds far fetched but having read the original post I felt it was my personal resposibiity to create some kind of awareness. I challenge anyone who is experiencing thigh numbness to check first if their phone is in their pant pocket and to place it elsewhere. You will see for yourself that the numbness has suddenly subsided. Now for those who are still experiencing thigh numbness and do not own phones then this is a different matter,
