I AM SOOOOO HAPPY TO HEAR IM NOT THE ONLY ONE! listen to the products ive used. Palmers Coa Coa butter Shea butter Mederma Scarprim Bio Oi Ambi Aloe vera NOTHING REALLY WORKED! I use to have the ingrown hair problem and that phase is over and done ive begun waxing (With you can still get ingrown hairs from but is less likley to be infected red or bleed when dealt with) my problem is the scarring. In my 17 years of life no one has seen me naked because of the small dark spots that lay on my biki area and line. The only thing that has worked for me sadly was...skin bleach. I feel terrible for using it! but i was young and desperate lol. But it works ive seen significant improvment!

I have the same problem with ingrown hairs. I have had it since I started shaving at 13 and I am nearly 20 now. It is very embarrassing. I have ingrown hairs on my armpits, bikini line and some on my legs. I have tried exfoliating, it does work but it only gets worse when I shave again. Aswell as having ingrown hairs I have really bad scars and even though I have shaved it still looks like I haven't due to these scars. About a month ago I went 2 boots and bought some parmers coco Butter cream cost me £4 and parmers coco butter oil which was about £10. I use the oil twice a day, on my bikini area and underarms. After I have rubbed it in as much as I can I then use the coco butter cream on my legs, underarm and bikini area. I have noticed a slight change on my legs and underarms which I am happy about as I have only been using it for a month now. The ingrown hair scars have lightened. About a week ago I also booked myself in to skin clinics for lazer hair removal on my underarms as that it the area that most affects me as I am ashamed to wear vest tops in the summer with the scars. They have a price cut so I paid £441 for 8 treatments and also received after lotions free which were £27. The demonologist said that this would help me because once the hair is gone forever I only have to worry about treating the scars and not worrying about new ones forming. The lazer hair removal was very quick, about 15-20 mins. However it did hurt as it was a sharp pain like a needle stabbing your skin. I had my first treatment a few days ago, the area is a bit sore but I am using the alo vera cream they gave me for free. Looking forward for my next treatment in 6 weeks time and cannot wait for the results!!

Hey guys, i've been looking for a good forum to post this because i am so excited! for YEARS i have a suffered from bad ingrown leg hair, mainly from my knees down to my shins...and let me tell you, they were BADD! i started picking at the hairs to get them out, then they would scar, and become ingrown all over again because the scar wouldn't allow the hair to grow through. I had tried EVERYTHING, tend skin, bio oil, tea tre oil, ingrown hair syrums from various different companies. waxing, shaving, epilating, (booked a laser hair removal appointment also, but i may not have to even go!)

every part of my leg had an igrown...of all kinds. First there were the round small bumps on my knees- when i broke the skin, a very fine curled short hair would come out. Then there were the thick hairs which were trapped, straight and flat, under a very fine layer of skin. THEN there were the worst kind, similar to the previous ones mentioned, but VERY VERY deep in the skin, and very very long. and of course, the last kind, the little red swollon bump ones, which looked like pimples.

AWEFUL. but, i can tell you all i'm on the road to an amazing recovering, with both ingrown and scars (my legs are hidiously scarred)! and it's all thanks to GLYCOLIC ACID LOTION!

I'm from australia, so it's hard to find a glycolic acid anything without it being more than $100 dollars. so i did research and searched online, on ebay, and found a 15% (very strong) glycolic acid LOTION (important that it's a lotiont, because it's a applied like a body lotion, it's not messy and you don't have to apply it with a cotton swab like tend skin. it's fast and easy to apply and you don't miss any spots, also feels like it's moisterising, not drying out the skin) for around $30 (including postage)

Ok so bassically summed up. It's a 15% glycolic acid lotion, i bought from ebay from a US american seller. (just search glycolic lotion on ebay) never use anything stronger than 15%.

what it does: When applied it DOES sting and hurts like hell, the stronger the glycolic acid, the more it stings...but that means it's working! (i have a high tolerence to pain though) you apply it once every night (i applied it twice daily for the first two days) by the third day after i had a taken a shower, my skin started PEELING away, all the hairs were loosened and my skin didn't have a single bump on it, ANYWHERE. The sores had alll turned to scabs.

I unfortunately made the mistake of sun tanning my leg, big mistake!, the new fresh skin, became burnt and red raw. it set back my healing time by two weeks. and i couldn't use the lotion for three days because it would sting far too much. but after that i used the lotion. ONCE a day.

it's been just one month and my legs are pretty much close to normal. the scars are TINY, and pretty much invisible with fake tan. and not one ingrown hair has appeared ever! and they feel so soft and SMOOOTH i am inlove (even when there's hair they still feel amazingly SMOOTH)

So bassically i reccommend, a LOTION containing between 10%-15% glycolic acid. IT WILL HELP!!!!!! goodluck guys

I have the same problem...being of Spanish/African American descent. I too have the problem with ingrown hairs and dark unsightly and uneven skin tone near my jawbone and neck area. Based upon what I've seen in some of these blogs, a combination of a couple of best practices will possibly work. I'm going to try this myself.

1st Exfoliation seems to be one of the best practices by using St. Ives Apricot scrub, Neutrogena etc.
2nd Moisturizing with a lotion rich in vitamin E seems to even out skin tone and lightens discolorations with regular use.
3rd Castor oil twice daily promotes healthy skin by moisturizing rough areas and removing dead skin cells.
4th Citric acid, take a half lemon and rubb it on the affected area twice a day. The citric acid in lemon also acts as an exfoliate.
5th Hydroquinone lotion (2% is available over the counter, anything greater has to prescribed by a dermatologist). Hydroquinone is a
powerful skin bleach that is ideal for removing dark spots from razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

Remember...Utilize thick shaving cream with a sharp new razor when shaving. Splash with cold water after shaving to close pores. Always use a moisturizer to finish the process!

This post was ages ago, but incase anyone looks:

Do not waste time or money with anything - go straight to laser hair removal (NOT IPL/SPL).
It will cure your ingrowns and mean you wont need to shave again so no new ones or bumps will appear.

I had the worst, most horrendous ingrowns and most are now gone (plus nearly all the hair too!)
I still have some scars, but they are getting better with every session.

It is worth the money.
In Australia I believe it is cheaper than the UK for example but I'd say save up and do it if you have shaving rash/ingrown issues.

I had the same problem, I have been shaving since I was 14 and had ingrown hairs that caused scarring, so this year I started using Black Opal Fade Cream, not the Gel, in the white tube. It has really worked. My scars are almost gone. I have stopped shaving and gone to waxing. I promise it will work, I am a women of color. Good Luck

I also have the same problem and on my back to lower back.  :-( I've tried the Nitrogena body wash and what not. It didn't work for me at all. I'm 16 and i know for a fact my parents wont let me do laser hair removal. I'm also afraid to wax because I've heard so terrible stories about it from other that was. I've used Nair Bikini Hair Removal and it works but i still get redness and bumps from it. The dark spots are EMBARRASSING and I'm ashamed to even wear a Bikini. I really could use some help especially since I'm a female of color.

I have always waxed. But still get ingrowns, and sadly have a few scars down there from them.
However the best thing I can suggest comes from your own cupboard. Olive oil! Honestly it does wonders for your skin, you can use it everywhere if you were game. But honestly little bit of olive oil on your shaving areas after every shower so at least once or twice a day will reduce the number of ingrowns you get. Try it! Please it worked wonders for me.

everyone's skin is different. i`ve used bio-oil a few times and it definitely works- just have to be patient, but it will lessen the appearance of the scars by far! Ive used mederma as well and it is also a good product in my book. :) try them and see if it works for u too
