hi i'm 19 and been suffering from this problem since the last summer when I decided to try epilating, i'm so happy to hear from others going through the same thing. Well all the hairs on the inside of my calves and thighs grew back ungrown and also on the outside of my calves. I picked at it and the area got really red and looked like I had some sort of skin disease. A year later i have these ugly dark marks ALL OVER my legs, they look horrible. I tried tend skin, I scrub, exfoliate.. I even went to the doctors and was told not much can be done but I was prescribed a moisturiser. All these things have made a very small difference but my legs still look horrible. Was excited when someone said the glycolic acid lotion worked but then Elvira said it made no difference. I feel like crying, I'm so upset. I'm still young and my legs look horrifying, how is anyone gonna see me ever??! i cant wear leg makeup and sheer tights for the rest of my life. feel so hopeless.

do not shave anymore .. use blistex on bumps , but for the scars / dark marks blistex also help but i recommend a trip to walgreens for nuetrogena's tone corrector cream or apply cocoa butter as many times a day possible :)

i started to use an epilator to remove hair rather than shaving. They hurt like mad at first but it gets ok. Stops ingrowns anyway.

Girl...when I was 13 I started shaving. I did not do it properly and I had ingrown hair all over my legs, my arms, vagina. I was mortified and embarrassed to get down with my boyfriend. I met my friend and her sisters and noticed they had smooth, soft and flawless legs. I asked what they did. Here's the magic answer ladies: exfoliation gloves. You can find these babies in any body shop or bath aisle. I started using them when I was 17 just because they made me feel extra clean to scrub myself. I don't remember checking when the bumps started going away. Could have been a couple months or more. But I did notice a year later that my legs were smoother. I'm 21 now. Every guy I'm with loves my skin. I even find myself involuntarily stroking my legs after shaving.

Here's what I do: I use shower gel. Instead of lathering with my hands, I use the gloves to lather like a loofah and scrub all the parts good. I lather it like I'm preparing to use shaving cream for shaving. Then I just shave the lathered area and wash it off with my gloved hands. Several things are done in one step: scrubbing body clean, lathering for shaving, and EXFOLIATING. The exfoliating gets the hair follicles loosened up so you get an even smooth shave. It also gets rid of the dead skin and buffs the top layer, so as you regenerate new skin, your tiny razor scars fade. That's all you need to do in the shower. Then I get out and moisturize. Rememember: exfoliate and moisturize. Do this everytime you shave. I have no more razor bumps, scars, nothing. I exfoliate and moisturize my entire body, especially when I shave. It takes patience and positive attitude. Trust me. This is a guarantee.

Hi melissalgr,
It's great to hear 15% glycolic acid lotion worked for you. I am hopeful after reading your post. If you don't mind, can you mention the exact brand/product name you used?
Thank you

I have the same problem wit bumps red skin and ingrown hairs ... it is caused by moisture so by moisturizing it you are making it worse.  Scrub it every day with a hard bristle brush sudeds up with antibacterial soap, immediatly after the shave use rubbing alcohol to cleanse the area and yea it is gonna SUCK, lay out and let the area dry then powder it down with baby powder and let that dry (lay out with the entire area exposed for a good 15 minutes and you will notice the bumps going down.  The area is gonna be red and not pretty for a good week or two but you are toughening up the skin and you will notice that shaving is easier and there are less and less bumps.  Make sure to wear undies that are all cotton ... even the elastic covered by cotton ... it helps wick away the moisture.  Being a redhead I have had this problem ALL my life and it took treating the area like shaving a man's face to help.  This won't help the dark marks but will help the ingrown hairs that have those nasty white heads on them.
