I am 16 and I suffered from ingrown hairs really badly to the extent where it hurt to walk because my knickers were rubbing against the bumbs so bad and the scars were awful. I now have no ingrown hairs and very few scars (although the area is still a little darker)

It may be important to note that I am black so have very curly hair prone to ingrowns... however .. here is what I did.

1) I stopped shaving for a month

2) I began exfoliating really thoroughly every day using St Ives or Clearasil (anything with sand or bits to clear the pores)

3) I started by applying Sudocreme two/three/four times a day

When I started to see a noticable diference ie. The bumps went down I started to focus on the scars.

5) I stopped using Sudocreme but carried on religiously exfoliating

6) I use Vitamin E cream and rub lemon juice on the area, 2/3/4 times a day

I have noticed a dramatic difference. but the thing to do is EXFOLIATE!! It made the biggest difference for me

I used to have a problem with shaving. Whenever I shaved my vagina I would end up with the worst bumps and they were huge and embarrassing. I then tried using nair and it was even worse. I quit using wet razors and started using electric razors and it completely worked for me and their were no more razor bumps . A few weeks ago I lost my electric shaver and I had to use a regular razor . I used the Gillette men's shaving cream, brand new razor and only shave towards the hair growth . This really worked for me. I had no itching and no bumps. After shaving, I apply alcohol and I use bump stopper after shave and razor bump cream and it has really helped. I haven't really found anything for the dark spots left from the old bumps but I think I will try the apricot scrub and vitamin e and hope it helps. These kinds of things takes time to clear up so be patient with every treatment. Hope this helps

I had the same problem. I started using Aveeno Therapeutic shaving cream! After shaving I apply Gold Bond medicated baby powder to the area I shave. I also don't shave as much, always use clean razors, and shave the direction of my hair! Trust me it works! Also, bathing in Epsom salt will quickly take them away. I'm currently working on the scars though :(

hey guys, been suffering from ingrown hair for the past 5 years.  I am wary of using really expensive products and am a bit of a natural remedy hippy.  ill tell you what works for me, maybe it will work for someone else on a very low budget as well. I have tried bio oil, coco butter etc - but they didnt remove ingrown hair for me at all. bio oil built up little bumps for me. I suffer from ingrowns on my legs. so i started to steam my legs before a shower pretty much everyday. ( every other day is fine too ) .  what i do is boil water, pour it on to a big bowl , put it on the ground, put my legs over it and cover my legs with a blanket so the steam doesnt go out. I also put drops of navaratna oil in the water - it feels amazing.  I steam my legs for 15-20 mins. around 3-4 times a week, after steaming, i exfoliate  with red sandalwood powder. ( red sandalwood powder mixed in with rose water to make the paste) and I let it sit on the legs for 15-20 mins before i rub it out. Twice a week, after the steaming, i rub half a lemon on my leg, and massage my leg ( do this before red sandalwood exfoliation) then have a shower, after the shower, rub rosehip oil on to your legs ( i use rosehip oil twice a day) its not a quick fix, but i have seen a big decrease in the number of ingrown hair and also, the growth of hair after waxing has reduced greatly.  the hairs that come out now are very fine, and very easily waxed away.  The scars - they take a long time to heal but have deffo seen fading in the past few weeks.good luck! xx

MEDERMA!!!!! USE IT!!! 2X A DAY FOR 8 WEEKS LIKE THE INSTRUCTIONS SAY . It wilk clear at least 80% of the scarring. Also before yu shave. Use a towel or one of those shower puff things and gently scrub the area to remove dirt and dead skin cells. Shave with the grain not agaisnt it. Until yur condition improves. And use lots of shaving gel or cream for sensitive skin with no smell. Try aveeno senstive skin shaving cream.

I am so glad I am not the only one with this problem. The scars are really affecting my confidence and have since booked a laser hair removal appointment after talking to a friend. The problem is I don't know if I will go because if I am honest I am scared of the pain. However I have heard that laser hair removal is really good for sorting out ingrowing hairs like mine - has anyone else here had it done, does it hurt - am I being silly?

Thanks in advance for any advice :)
