Oh I have a situation. I love to go to outdoor shows and festivals. The smell of funnel cakes is intoxicating! I would love to have all of the food that these places offer but for a diabetic, it is not possible. I can't even have the homemade lemonade. :( Really, is there ANYTHING that a diabetic could have there other than overly-priced water?? I have been packing a lunch when I go, but I either have to lug a cooler around or go back to the car to eat. This is utterly ridiculous. It is like a diabetic is discriminated as badly as a vegetarian in these places, but at least they can eat french fries. So are there any types of food that fit in a diabetic diet that won't send my blood sugars sky high?
What is a better aroma than the stuff they cook at a fair? Some tips to follow so that you don't succumb to the food at a festival or any other event would be:
1) Eat a meal before going to the event. If you eat beforehand, you will be less likely to want anything there because you will be full.
2) Share with a friend. If you have a friend (or friends) with you, you all can share that funnel cake. You can pick the part that has the least powdered sugar on it.
3) Bring a water bottle. A lot of water bottles that are sold have ways of clipping onto your belt loop, etc. Keep it full at all times so you can have something to drink on while engaging in the activities offered.
4) Have some sugar-free gum. Gum will keep your mouth busy so that you won't crave other food.
I hope these tips help for when you go to your next outdoor show or festival. Does anyone else have any suggestions that would help?
