Hi Mickey & Anyone else that gets lower back pain after drinking alcohol. I too was having this problem and I mentioned it to like 2 doctors and nobody knew what it could be. Well, I took matters into my own hands and I did tons of research and I believe I found the answer and/or the cause. FIBROMYALGIA.

Fibromyalgia is a disorder or a condition that causes muscle pain and fatigue (feeling tired). People w/ Fibromyalgia have "tender points" on the body. Depression and anxiety is also one of the symptoms.   I found a blog where people are saying

Oh! also, fibromyalgia is a condition that will not go away once you have it, but it can be managed like arthritis.

I manage mines by taking baths in EPSOM SALT, doing yoga (if your fibromyalgia is not severe), getting 8 or more hours of sleep and of course, eliminating or reducing alcohol!

Let me know if you guys find other ways of managing it.

I hope this helps and if you have questions for me...just ask.

I usually drink a few times a month... I'll have between 5 and 8 beers over the course of 5 hours or so. I've always had back pain (and neck and knee pain) for as long as i can remember. Recently, I've been trying to quit drinking altogether, mainly because it has become obvious to me that alcohol is a very unhealthy drug. I will quit for about a month or two but then drink again when stressed or when hanging out with drinking friends. I have noticed that after about 3 weeks of abstaining all my back pain disappears and my back actually feels good. I've noticed this a few times now. I don't think dehydration or lack of vitamins has anything to do with it because none of that makes a difference. It's only staying off it that helps. My guess is that there are many things going on, as alcohol is very toxic to the body. My guess is that it affects hormone levels which can cause muscle wasting and inflammatory fat depositions and that this is at least partially responsible for the pain symptom. It's probably doing much worse than that. I am going to try hard to stay away from the stuff permanently as nothing is worth chronic back and body pain. Screw alcohol.

I've written this on several related posts but it can't hurt to repeat it here.

I experienced alcohol pain which was later diagnosed as Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Since many of you are wondering about that, let me describe how it feels.

Most commonly the pain presents in the neck, chest, back, and/or shoulders.

The pain appears with only a few sips of alcohol (any kind) and will last 20-30 minutes regardless of whether you continue drinking or stop immediately. It can be inconsistent, meaning there may be some occasions where you drink and it doesn't happen. But generally it will become worse and more persistent with time. In my case, the pain eventually became chronic so that I had the pain 24/7 --alcohol or not.

Many people with this symptom have no other symptoms of lymphoma. It's common for a year or more to go by with this symptom before anything else is noticed.

I scroll through the boards here partly to help anyone who might be having the alcohol pain symptom of lymphoma, like I did, because it can be the first and only symptom of lymphoma and it mostly goes undiagnosed. I had it 9 months before I was diagnosed and a ton of doctors who were perplexed.

I don't mean to scare anyone. I'm just trying to get the information out there. If I can be of any help, feel free to message me.

I don't think eviltwin was out of line. He said it COULD be and recommended the person get it checked out. He wasn't diagnosing.

That's actually pretty good advice considering that alcohol pain is a specific symptom of Hodgkin's and often the ONLY symptom.

I had this symptom for 9 months before being diagnosed with lymphoma. I honestly wish I'd read a warning like that when I was in that situation.

I had this same problem for about 7 years thanks to military docs telling me it was muscle tone and the like being wrong with me.  Come to find out, I went to a urologist and had something they call a UPJ obstruction.  It may not be what is wrong with some of you but it couldn't hurt to ask the question.

I've been getting this back pain when I drink alcohol.  It's kindof all over, but mostlly my upper back.  It happens sometimes when I take my first sip or after a few drinks.  Most of the time I drink malt liqure (four loko or mikes hard lemenade).  The pain doesn't last very long but is so painful, it brings me to tears!!  Are these symptems of cancer or liver failure?  The internet and my doctor don't seem to have the answers.  Help!!  Does anyone know some real facts that could point me in the right direction?

Okay I have been going through this for a number of years as a drinker very the last ten years, I too googled this on a number of occasions with no answers. My experience after having lower back pain again after drinking was kidney stones! After every time I drank I became dehydrated the stones moved and I would have a dull to sharp kidney pain in the lower back thinking I had kidney trouble. The stones would block my urinary tract causing this pain; I have sought treatment for my stones and have had relief even though I Still drink.

This is kidney damage from drinking most likely people. Google "Kidney location". Heavy drinking and high fat diets damage kidneys. If you drink, and it hurts in your back, your kidneys may be have reduced ability to deal with the toxins.

Google has tons of answers, so do doctors. This is not a difficult diagnosis people. Get to a doctor and explain it hurts only after drinking and the location of the pain. If you dont drink, and it doesnt hurt, tell them that too.

This post is old...but people...sometimes the simplest answer is the best one...its more than likely gas buildup or constipation....drinking often causes diarrhea and gas...its the poisons trying to come out of ur body. More than likely this is the reason for the lower back pain...hope this helps and makes sense to you.

Cure for mostly all kinds of Back Pain.

I am 36 and I have been suffering from back pain from past 4 years. I did see doctors and done lots of test but doctors could not diagnose the reason. So I have been spending a lot of time doing my own examination and experimentations.

I tried few solutions but one day I finally found the cure, well it seems to be working for me, for now atleast from past few months.

I didn't believe it myself too until I tried it. No I am not selling anything but trying to help millions of back pain sufferers like myself.
Try it and please spread it around if it works for you so everyone can benefit from this.

Symptoms: Early morning back pain or back pain generally in the night or next day when you drink alcohol.

Cause: You would all agree, in this computer age we have become "lazy". We are not meant to be couch potatoes. Still that's exactly what we do when we get home after sitting all day "on computer", we eat, sometime more then what we must. So our "spines get diffused" and dehyderated. Majority of us suffer from "ankylosing spondylitis" and or dehyderation.

Treatment: 1. Do Yoga. Yes, only 10-15 minutes of Yoga it will help tremendously. Specifically do "CAT/COW Yoga.
                   2. Keep drinking water, specifically after coffee or any "caffeine" product.
                   3. Try vitamin D, we do not much sunlight in western countries and bones tend to get weak.
                   4. Alcohol, as already mentioned will supress natural pain killers, so avoid it else you will get pain regardless of everything. However you can reduce the pain if you drink double the amount of water. Not possible and no one wants that :-)

Hope this will help to cure many of you.
