You're kind of an id**t. Cocaine was not used because of its stimulant properties, it literally numbs an area on contact, much like lidocaine, marcaine, bupivicaine, etc. No other stimulant has this effect. Go back to the gym, learn how to spell, and quit trying to give unsound medical advice.

I had lower back pain which seemed worse after drinking any alcohol whilst on holiday. Went to GP on return to Uk and he said drinking more excessively combined with hot climate is not good for kidneys. Drink more water and keep from dehydrating.  I still get a pain on lower th side of back if I drink a lot of wine. Usually passes after taking anti inflammatory tablets.

I've had these symptons on and on off since about age 27, I'm now 43, stopped drinking after really bad flair up on the 23rd Sept 2013 at 1.48am (The fact I still remember the time, date and year tells you it was a bad one!!) Anyway, after 16hrs of what feels like pain in my lower left back, it eased.

Now here's the thing, over the years I've found something totally by accident, one of my problems is trapped wind. I also get pains in the front of my chest, upper right rib cage and lower back left of my back. Though back attacks on happen after drinking way too much..

I was in a hotel once in Darlington, drinking larger, after about 4 cans I got an attack, for some reason I got in a hot bath, and sat there, possibly out of boredom, thinking I was going to be awake all night. Well within 30mins of sitting in the hot water, I felt the pain go, as though the pain disolved due to the heat.

Over the years, I've only had the attacks after drinking larger for long periods, sometimes the pain starts somewhere and then moves to the lower left back...

I too have been for ultasound's (yes more than one!) blood tests, kindney test's, so far all have come back negative. Since stopping drinking at night time, I've felt a lot better, for obvious reason's. Now here's the latest.

Saturday night, I drank a can and half of larger and got an attack, so jumped in the bath of really hot water, and it disolved. I've now worked out that if you have one of these attacks and it's similar for yourself, (not that I can tell you what's causing it for yourself as I cannot) try the hot water routine. I find if I've had a flair up as I call it, and I've drunk a lot of beer, then the attack will not shift. It last anywhere from 5hrs to 1 one day.

Here's the next interesting bit, after saturday, little attack, which I did as a test after not drinking or 6 months. I found the next day, that I was constipated, I'm wondering if air is getting trapped for some people, not all. in the lower part of the intestene, along with waste. If it is trapped wind for some people, it can explain, why its so painfull, the alchol, could well set it off. I do wonder if I create extra acid in my stomach after drinking for years. In my case I seriously do wonder if it's trapped wind that get's lodged and then will not move, hence the pain. Trapped wind is also common thing in my family...

Hope this information help's, are people getting the same sypmtom's as myself, if so the hot bath, or seed bags, round the area with pain. May help....

Also stopped drinking, which has helped and I'm a lot happier as person.

I've obviously passed all this information onto my doctor's surgery, afer vsiting...

Hope this information, may help people.

regards

Andy.

Yeah, yeah see a doctor. Now that that is out of the way, let me tell you my story about alcohol and back issues. I used to drink beer until I quit in 1996. I always had a tight lower back because I am a life long ice hockey player. Back then, during my first beer I would start to feel a dull pain in my lower back. It would happen even before I started to feel any beer buzz. Someone told me that it was due to the alcohol causing muscles to relax in my lower back. I didn't drink between 1996 and 2006, then I started back with just beer again. I didn't get the low back pain at first, except until the last 6 months. Same thing as before. I think it's just the muscles relaxing when the body senses that I'm taking in alcohol. I'm 58 and like I said I have been playing ice hockey all my life. I think my back pain only comes on if the muscles relax and that only happens when I drink beer. The next morning after some beers the back pain can be noticable just because I did things walking or twisting that with a loose back that I would not normally do.

Im 30 years old and Ive been drinking since I was 19. I never had any problems until the last couple of months when I started getting lower left back pain the day after drinking.  It doesnt hurt really it just feels like a back muscle tightening up for a few seconds every couple minutes. Ive never had it last for more than the one day after drinking though. I was worried that it was my kidneys but then I saw someone posted that alchohol can cause muscle spasms in some people. I think Im just gonna stop drinking altogether though seeing as I cant prove that this is whats going on and it worries me.

I was talking to a doctor about this the other day, the feeling you could have in your left side like myself, is wind from the Alcohol stuck in the bend in the large intestine which just happens to have a major bend, before your rectum on the left hand side....

pancreatitis...particular with chronicity can give referred pain to the lower back ..or through from the front to back in the epigastrum....chronic pancreatitis without acute pancreatitis is a commonly underdiagnosed issue

I get it a lot to. I have equated it with drinking. I don't know why my doctor tells me it's not possible but I know when I drink I can't walk or stand long before my back locks up.

I also have the same problem, after I drink alcohol I get a lower left back pain- almost where the top of my intestines are, bottom or back of stomach area. I truly believe it is gastritis and my stomach gets inflamed after drinking I used to have a similar problem in the front of my stomach closer to the center of my chest (top of the stomach area)and after a night of drinking I would get a soreness there for a day or two. I have taken clarithromycin for H pylori infection that had cured me for the longest time and just recently I've been abusing my body again(and never went for a follow up to see if it actually went away 100 percent) and with time I think it manifested itself this time in my back. Gastritis can occur anywhere in the stomach and remember your stomach is basically like a basketball meaning there's a front a bottom or top and a back so depending on where it is inflamed is where you feel it in the front of the stomach you feel it in your belly in the back of the stomach you feel it in your back.

Hello all,

As a current and long term ( 30+ years ) alcoholic.  I find that my lower back pain is due to lack of fibre and water in my diet. Once I have made and consumed root vegetable soup, the problems will disappear.  This is a lot to do with wind and passing fluids. Try a few days off from eating neat.  It only backs up your digestion system when drinking.

A better solution is to find another way to get the stress of modern living to lift. My doctor once gave me  diazepam for a week. I didn't feel the need to drink for 6 weeks. Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned from de-stressing our minds.
