Thank you so much who ever first posted this question. this discussion is a wealth of information. Im 50, female, and was a daily drinker of wine and spirits, but usually 1-2 glasses only and have had pain in my lower back for some years. But as I have had an active life, falling of motorcycles and horses, hiking and lifting weight due to various outdoor jobs I thorght this was muscle related. The pain I get is generally across the lower back, sharp when bending or lifting and more left side. I did suffer a muscle tear about 12 years ago in that area after stepping in a hole hidden in snow and have had regular chiropractic care for the last 15 years to help with work injuries. I also have an underactive thyroid and have for 4 years been taking Thyroxine to sort that. The doctors are happy to dish out ibuprofen to deal with the back pain as we have all thorght it was due to muscle sprain. Then they thorght I should take something else to deal with the acid state of my stomach due to prolonged use of pain killers, then they thorght I should take supplements to deal with B deffecency caused by the pills to stop the acid caused by the pain killer. The pain was just getting worse. I came to the conclusion I should stop taking all these things, except the Thyroxine, and the pain departed quite quickly and is now only obvious when I have had alcohol for a couple of days in a row. I'm sitting here with back pain, rueing the 2 premix bourbon and colas I had last night and thinking is it just dehydration? Take water, pain lessons. The posts about Hodgkin's have got me worried tho as my Father drank regularly and suffered from that, had lymph nodes removed and is now deceased, from another illness, so I cant ask him and I have a doctor that isn't interested in looking too deeply at a problem. not sure how to tell the difference between dehydration and something more serious. Living in NZ doesn't help either as our health system is strapped for cash, doctors don't like handing out letters to specialists for vague ailments and I don't have health insurance to go private. What other symptoms would point to a lymphatic problem?

@yadayada.That is an ulcer. For sure. Hurts like hell but passes within 10 minutes if you take an antiacid. You should have more treatment than that. I take omeprazole Once a day and I rarely have any issues. And I drink and eat spicy food.

Ulcer. Plain and simple. Happened to me when I was 16. Take omeprazole(prilosec) once upon waking. You'll feel so much better. You could eat alot of tums, but prilosec with prevent the pain instead of just masking it.

Mayo clinic tells us that alcoholism may lead to a variety of complications including (but not limited to) liver disorders, cardiovascular problems, bone loss, neurological complications, erectile dysfunction, gastrointestinal problems and increased risk of cancer. I have practiced Physical Therapy for 12 years. I can tell you, if there is bone loss in the spine, this IS ultimately going to affect the mechanics of the back and ultimately lead to back problems. Alcohol may not cause back pain by itself but it clearly is a contributing factor.

I have the same issue. It happens when I eat sugar, drink, or drink coffee. I did some research and it may be astressed adrenal gland. I recently stopped all drinking coffee. I started eating really healthy (including "bullet" mixed veggie/fruit drinks). This helped a lot and the pain went away (almost 95% gone) UNTIL I had a drink and ate "bad" foods - stuffed pizza etc. Then the same back pain was back.

I also have the same thing. I feel like when ever i have 2 nights of drinking my back turns into a nightmare
