What I think about weightlift that it stunt your growth? I'm 6.3 and weight 175 I started weightlift at the age of 15 in I was 6.0 and weight 155 in at the age of 15 I beanch 90max in did 15 in dampbell. Then I star working out really hard everyday than now I bench 175max and did 40. Dampbell. And I'm only 16 years old.
hey for every one out their worried about weight lifting stunting growth its a load of c**p im 11 and lift weights 3 times a week for a half hour a day. and im 5'7 and started last year at the height of 5'3 my dad is 6'3 and my mom is 5'6 and im still growing all the time. and for people who are short and started lifting weights at a young age and are trying to scare you it's all got to do with genetics for example if a 8 year old starts lifting weigts and grows to be 5'8 and his dad id 5'7 and the mom 5'6 well no wonder hes short lifting weights is fine just dont max it wont stunt growth you just might hurt yourself.another example is my cousin he was gettin chubby and got scared so he started running 10 miles a day literly. and lifting weights and barely ate .well his dad is 6'5 and mom is 5'6 he grew to 5'10 and is 5'9 knnow and is trying to scare me by telling me it will stunt my growth bull crapppp-ppp. but he was stupid and didnt eat and you should never run 10 miles a day thats just stupid .so that one is comletely his fault and the weightlifting he did had nothing to do with him being short.and my other cousin is currenty lifting weights he started last year and is 6'2 when he started he was only about five 9 or 10 so if you want to get buff and impress a girl do it it thats the reason i started and it worked and if you want to lift weights and you are young like me and worried just do it you will be fine youll be buff and tall oh and all the things i said are true. if you want to know more just reply to this and ill talk infact a good website to checkout is THE MUSCLEHEAD it works and is amazing. so the next time someone tells you weightlifting stunts your growth tell them what i told you and they will change i hope you found this usefull know go pmp some iron
WOW I BEEN WORKING OUT SINCE I WAS AROUND THE AGE OF 9 BECAUSE I DIDN'T LIKE BEING THE LITTLE WEAK GUY FROM MY FRIENDS...I AM NOW 16 TURNING 17 NEXT MONTH AND I'M STILL SHORT! I'M 5.4 AND 1/2 I HIT A GOOD GROWTH SPROUT WHEN I WAS 12 WHICH WAS WHEN I GREW ABOUT 2 INCHES IN A MONTH...BUT I'VE BEEN LIKE THIS FOR 2 YEARS STRAIGHT NOW. MY MOM IS 5.1 WHICH I GUESS IS WHERE I GOT IT FROM. BUT MY DAD IS ABOUT 5.11 6.0 SO I GUESS I STILL HAVE A CHACE RIGHT NOW....I WEIGHT ABOUT 145 POUNDS SO I'M PRETY BIG FOR MY HEIGHT...

So because one lad didn't grow tall, that means weightlifting affected his growth?
Its down to genetics.
Get a bigger sample size if your gonna make that link.

I am 14 and 5'7 i started working out at 13. At age 13 i was 5'7 and still am i don't think people under 16 should work out. You might get lucky and not be stunted but odds are you will.
The answer is yes. Weight lifting does stunt your growth , but that is determined on how much you lift. In your vertebrae, there are disks of cartilage that separate bone from bone. If you do heavy weight lifting vigorously for a certain amount of time, the pressure of the weights will squish the disks. Thus, making your vertebrae shorter which makes you shorter. But according to studies, Weight lifting builds strong bones and exercise is crucial in order to grow. You should just build up on calcium and protein before you weight lift. You wouldn't want to weight lift with soft bones. Soft bones will be easily mend by the pressure of the weights.

Its a myth . i started weight lifting at 11 now im 15 and im 6'2"
I have just become fourteen, I am six foot four. When I become fifteen I will very likely be much taller, and, guess what, I don't lift weights. But my friend who is also fourteen, started lifting weightts at the age of 8 and is more than a foot shorter than me.
yeah its not true. i just turned 14. i have been lifting for about 3 months. i started benching everyday with 50lbs, now i bench 130lbs 5 or 6 times a week(80 reps a day) . i do 250 pushups a day also. i have grown about an inch since iv started lifting. im 5'4 and 117lbs.
Guest.... maybe he just wasnt meant to be as tall as you.. I mean not everyone gets up to 6'4 man.
Hey, yeah im kinda scared if i might stunt my growth aswell, im 13 and started just doing some light weights about a year ago. Im about 164cm, im not sure if been growing lately and havent hit a noticable growth spurt yet. My mum is the same height as me at the moment and my dad is about 5'10.
at the moment im doing a 15 min cardio warm up, then weights i can do about 10-15 reps with, a personal trainer set out a weight program for me to do that wont damage my joints, it involves some basics like, 10-15 reps of cable row, pull-downs, leg press, push-ups, chest press, shoulder press, crunches etc. Im going to stick to lighter weights with more reps, ive heard the heavier the more likely it will close your growth plates faster.
Can someone give me some positive feedback that its likely i wont stunt my growth?

I've been doing Olympic style weightlifting since I was 12 and plan on going to the School Age Nationals this year for the second time. I lift four times a week for about 2 hours a day. I max out single rep on snatch, clean and jerk, and front squat or backsquat every week. I am now 14 and have been growing pretty rapidly. I believe I have grown more than a foot in two years. so for me, my growth definatly hasnt been stunted.
I have problem with this whole controversy too. I'm 13 and 5'6 and probaly a half but I don't lift weights. I started to lift them a few weeks ago but I've been on and off because of this debate. I think I might continue to lift because there is no conclusive evidence that it stunts your growth. There is better evidence that it doesn't because running and jumping have way greater compression forces so lifting weights shouldn't bother.
Sad but true weight lifting can affect your growth. Your body gives you the muscle you need as your a kid. When you get about 20 or so thats when its time to hit the weights, show off the muscles. But for now just chill.
my friends say my muscles are really strong. i wanna start weight lifting, ( wanna impress the one whom i have a crush on ), but i also want to grow. many people tell me if i start weight lifting, than it will stunt my growth.
When you lift weights its permanant. If you stop for a year that isn't going to make it alright. what you have done has already taken its toll.
