Okay im not a medical student or P.E. teacher or anything but i do know a bit about the body.
And I'll put it as simple as i can .
Lifting weights does not stun your growth .
But what it does is it prevents you from growing to your maximum height ,
most friends I have that do weights are generally tall but its got nothing to do with weights , what effects ur growth is ur diet , environment and genetics ...

Simple :-P

To be honest it really does boil down to your genetics. I started weight lifting when on my 13th B-Day, I was 5'7. I'm now 14 and workout all the time, literally at least every other day, I was too was scared that it could affect my growth but after hitting 5'9 I'm pretty sure it's all B.S. For example, look at Arnold Schwarzenegger, he started working out when he was 14 and grew to 6'2. You can exercise as much as you want, just dont push yourself and make sure you eat enough. Nutrition deficiency's are probably what cause most height deficiency's.

I'm wondering the same thing... Will it stunt my growth? I've been thinking and researching this question for a while now and I have found as many yes it wills as there are no it wont's. When I asked my doctor, he told me as long as i don't lift anything over my weight I should be good. Also I've talked to another doctor who told me until about a year and a half after you stopped growing, you WILL NOT gain real adult muscle. Your muscles will get smarter and stronger and more toned and they might also become a tiny bit larger, but until a year and a half after you stopped growing, you will not really bulk up. My background information is that I am a wrestler and I'm trying to get bigger for next year. Aside from everything I hear though, from my personal observations, everyone on my wrestling team is rather short. Not extremely, but pretty short. It makes me wonder if too much lifting could indeed affect your growth. Right now I'm 5'8" and still growing. My doctor predicted I'd be 6'2" when I'm fully done. What I figured I'd do is until I hit another growth spurt and am about 5'11" or 6' and could accept being that height for my life, I'm going to stick with smaller weights (10 to 20lbs) and definitely not do anything over my weight except for leg press. I hope this helps for anyone wondering what they should do. Rather be safe then sorry right? One more thing is that I truly believe that supplements are good for you especially multi-vitamin supplements. Also before and after working out it is good to take a protein powder, bar or drink because all protein does is help your muscles grow back faster and bigger. It is only the act of lifting that will put stress on your ligaments and bones, that's why lifting more weight rather than less is the thing that would hurt you if anything does. Sorry that was all mixed up, I had a lot of thoughts that came out in an unorganized manor. I hope you can pick out some information here and that this helps. Best of luck dude.

I've been lifting since I was around 13 years old. I'm 15 right now, 5'9 1/2''I'm benching heavy weight around 250 in 5 set reps. I also curls and work out my legs. Is it true that lifting weights stunts growth? because I want to get at least to 6'0''.

Lets just say this its only a few workout that stunts your growth if you would only bench press low weight and just not enough to strain your body it wont stunt. TWO here is the muscle workout that stunts your growth if you do these following muscles, legs, back, and abs chest and arm workout is ok but remember when your working out dont stand and lift the weight have support. THREE growth is controled on what you eat my friend worked out since 13 all heavy weight all muscle but his 6/1 because he drank supplment such as protein and boiled eggs everyday, with him 3 times a day so it just the way you do it not just working out.

generally people do start weightlifting in around 30 to 35 age I think that is good age for that. We should have to start weight lifting around this age so it will become very nice effect in our body.

im 14 and 5 8" and ive been doing weights for just over 3 months and im thinking of stopping cos i dont want to stunt my growth

That has nothing to do with lifting weights. I read lifting weights can actually stimulate growth. When your turn 15 maybe you'll be tall and skinny, but had you lifted weights you might be taller and stronger.

Basically you just got tall genes and your friend didn't. But he lifts weights so he'd probably take you in a fight.
