I experience the same problem too, I am feeling it right now actually. It's not that severe as some of the other forumers explained but it sure is quite annoying. It's hard to point out to the exact source location, but kind of behind and under the ears, where the corners of the jaw meets the neck. I get mine mostly from drinking beer, and it usually starts after the second or third longneck. I only drink well-known high quality brandnames like Heineken, Dos Equis and Budweiser so I don't think it's purity related at all.

The pain lasts about an hour or two and then slowly fades away. While it's there its intensity increases and drops as time goes by and as I move my jaw. Yawning becomes a lot harder without really feeling something, as if some glands are getting really tense and tight and almost ready to snap. It's hard to explain.

Even though there seems to be a lot of us who experience this problem, it's unfortunately quite hard to find convincing, conclusive, professional medical information on this. I haven't tried Vitamin C treatment but sounds like that's just a temporary relief for the immediate symptoms and not a long-term cure. Besides I know I don't have Vitamin C deficiency because I also love and eat a lot of fruits, mainly oranges.

If/when I find out what the whole deal is, I'll come back here and post what I know.

Wish you all good luck. :-)

I usually feel the pain instantly after taking a bite of cheese, but it goes away almost instantly as well.

I have TMJ issues.

Today after having wings (with lemon pepper), dill flavoured fries and a heineken, the pain lasted for about 45 minutes.

Seems to happen when eating things that cause extra saliva.

-Hope this post lands a google searcher looking for certain food keywords the same way it did for me.

The alcohol content would affect a bone in ear. This bone is responsible for the posture of human. This bone only keeps us steady on foot, and save us from falling. Alcohol affects the bone, that causes the instability for us after drinking alcohol. This may be the reason for the irritation in the ear after alcohol.

I just had a screwdriver (Orange Juice and Vodka) same pain resulted. I have been experiencing this on and off for the past few years. Others have mentioned it is possibly an allergic reaction to the alcohol.

Of all things to be allergic too :'(

I was told the same thing by my dr.

It's not the alcohol, its a mold allergy. Fermented bev like beer & wine make it hurt the worst. Cheese is another big pain.

There is a mold avoidance diet...it does help if you can manage to stay on it & avoid almost all types of food

Some days you just gotta have beer & pizza with a side of ear pain & hives.

I, too, get horrendous pain in my jaw. It gets bad after two or three drinks and then I know to stop. I have had the worst experience with those really cold, vodka bottled drinks. I thought I was having a heart attack. Jaw pain is a sign of a heart attack in women. I usually just sit quietly and stop drinking. Eventually, it goes away.

This is a reaction in your saliva glands to the acidic content you are consuming.

I get the ear thing on occasion when I drink alcohol or coffee. A couple drops of hydrogen peroxide in the ear helps. I haven't tried the vitamin c thing though.

I had vodka the other day and these pains occured when I was about half done with my glass.. It was quite annoying, but a friend suggested drinking some water, and this seemed to help a little - haven't tried that vitamin c thing though.
