A couple of you mentioned lymphoma. I scroll through the boards here partly to help anyone who might be having the alcohol pain symptom of lymphoma, like I did, because it can be the first and only symptom of lymphoma and it mostly goes undiagnosed. I had it 9 months before I was diagnosed and a ton of doctors who were perplexed.

Here is a description of alcohol pain in lymphoma:

Pain in the ear would not be a typical presentation of lymphoma. More commonly it presents in the neck, chest, back, and shoulders (I haven't heard the jaw before but it's certainly possible).

The pain appears with only a few sips of alcohol (any kind) and will last 20-30 minutes regardless of whether you continue drinking or stop immediately. It can be inconsistent, meaning there may be some occasions where you drink and it doesn't happen. But generally it will become worse and more persistent with time. In my case, the pain eventually became chronic so that I had the pain 24/7 --alcohol or not.

Many people with this symptom have no other symptoms of lymphoma. It's common for a year or more to go by with this symptom before anything else is noticed.

I don't mean to scare anyone. I'm just trying to get the information out there. If I can be of any help, feel free to message me.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS TO ME. I ONLY HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF PAIN BEHIND MY JAW FROM MY FIRST SIP OF RED WINE UNTIL THE END OF MY SECOND GLASS. I HAVE BEEN SEEING ENT DOCTORS FOR A POSSIBLE INNER EAR INFECTION FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS, BUT THE WINE THING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS. IF YOU HAVE ANY NEW INFORMATION, I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR IT. THANKS

Mine is definitely from wine.  I think white wine is the worst and it is terrible.  It goes away if I change to a different beverage but it must be something in the dry wine.

So do you think it is an allergy to the sulphites?

I also have all these symptoms, but in addition to them, I can't seem to swallow food anymore. some foods are worse than others, it is wine that does it. not soda, just wine and sometimes beer. I wonder if anyone else has swallowing issues. I am also now deficient in vitamin D! No doctor has been able to help. They all blame radiation therapy I had as a child. Even though I had no problems in the past 32 years. I feel like they use that as an excuse for everything.

When I drink wine, I get stinging pain behind my ears near the saw bone.  My Doctor informed me that it is allergies to Sulfites in the wine.  It is relieved with an antihystamine. Sulfites are used as a preservative in wine and some salad bars to keep fruits and veggies from turning color with age.  I hope this helps.

Yeah. that totally worked for me too.
I hadn't eaten the whole day (forgot) and then went out and had food and beer with friends at a pub. And for the first time in my life, I had pain under my ears after every beer gulp. Which was annoying and very strange, since it had never happened before.
Got home, googled it, found this page, and tried the vitamin C thing. Made myself some lemonade with extra lemons. One glass, and no pain drinking anything. I even tried a sip of beer. All good.

Have been having this issue for months every time I drink (usually a mix of beer and rum (at parties) or wine (at home)) just had thought it was related to my wisdom teeth coming in because i dont have health insurance and they have been sore off and on for about 2 years. Googled it tonight and saw the vitamin c thing. Just a couple sips of OJ took care of it I can't freaking believe it. I have just been living with this pain for nearly the entire year every time I drink and there is a super easy solution!

I have been diagnosed with "silent acid reflux" I personally think this is why my inner ears burn WHEN I drink wine, everything in my throat and esophagus is red & irritated from the acid reflux, now I am adding alcohol, of coarse it will burn! I never have indigestion....this is why it is called "SILENT" you don't know you have it.

I had no idea the foods I was eating were a problem. Mint, chocolate, onions, caffeine, oj, citrus, all are good for you. But the acid in them is bad for me rite now. Well, caffeine isn't good for u, but I think u can get the idea. Everyone writes that the Dr. doesn't find anything.....mine didn't either. For year I went to many different doctors.  After going to a gastro Dr. I demanded he send me to a Dr. that could help me--he only had seen some irritation in my esophagus. He only sent me to a specialist because I was choking on food and I had a history that was questionable.

Dr. Oz had a show on last Friday about it. No one mentioned alcohol  burning ears on the show, just to avoid it, these foods and carbonated beverages. This is probably why most doctors don't help and don't know.  I am not a docotor, But I bet this is the answer for a lot of people out there having this problem.

I hope this can help you, it can't hurt to look into it.  I hope it helps someone.

Good luck
