Electric shock feeling thru whole body

I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

If there's one thing I've learned in my lifetime of health problems, it's that many doctors, including some of the highest and best trained neurologists will blame things on anxiety and panic attacks when they honestly don't have the answer to the problem. In one case, heart rhythm problems, lightheadedness, etc. turned out to be being caused by disconnected pacemaker leads, not anxiety, etc. which I almost never have, and the other major time, my symptoms got so bad I couldn't walk out of the hospital I walked into. I repeatedly asked the nurses and doctors to check the side effects if a medication they had recently given me an oversized dose of, and in return, they ended up in my room with a crash cart because of their stupidity. They had many docs analyze my walking symptoms, which occurred after the fact, and their head neurologist finally concluded it was just anxiety/depression. ("Bullshyt!!") I left the hospital (Stanford) still not able to walk--legs were like rubber, and the first thing I did the second I got home was gonna computer to check the side effects of that medication they overdosed me on. sure enough one of the side effects was "may cause inability to walk". I further cut down the dose they sent me home on, and in a day or two, I was fine again. All I can say is that "anxiety" crap is just a complete copout for lazy doctors who don't care enough to take the time to figure out what's really going on. I say take everything into consideration that has been going on with you, including medication physical symptoms etc. Don't be afraid to do some online research of your own and see if you can narrow it down. In many cases you will probably have better luck than your own doctor. I also have been experiencing that shocking feeling as of this morning. I recently received some intrsvenous Tylenol mixed with Benadryl, along with a particular type of iron infusion, which was different from my norm. I really think it has something to do with that. Hopefully I will be able to find a good doctor that can figure it out without me having to research it myself.

Same here only Cymbalta. I tried to get off last year as I felt so bad and depressed. The Dr told me to start again and we would try withdrawal later. I am still on and also taking Welbutrin, which my doctor says has some of same ingredients, also still on Cymbalta. I also fell 4 times in one week from
trying to withdraw. I am looking at two floor burns right now. Be careful with your meds. I am in my
late 70's and can ill afford to be falling around.

My neurologist also told me I was having silent migraines.....
As Dr. Shaban indicated the electric shock sensation can be a sign of multiple sclerosis. I have a history of nerve demylation secondary to chronic hexane exposure and experienced the sensation for several years as a result. My personal experience was that cns depressant drugs helped but that over the counter antihistamines also brought relief.
Another possible consideration is vitamin B deficiency. There is some research indicating that vitamin B deficiency can mimic some of the symptoms associated with MS. That said, although I would never suggest that someone avoid getting a medical diagnostic from the appropriate professional, adding a good multivitamin to the daily routine of most people does no harm and might provide considerable benefit.
At night or early in the morning these shocks also effect me which are worrying as everyone on here knows. I won't go into too much detail, but I have had many tests (mri, xrays, blood etc etc) which came up negative (luckiliy) and after searching the net, have found that 'T4 Syndrome' describes best what I have which the Neurologist and some of the Docs have no idea about, so maybe if some of you look this up it may help you. I am coming to the conclusion that the shocks up and down my spine are caused from either nerve damage by a past upper back injury or by an infection caught from a river several months back which seems a likely cause seeing as the infection I clearly developed, spread from my sinus, to my head, to my spine which caused really worrying 'giddy' spells as if I were being pushed down from my head into the ground along with other strange feelings culminating with this lasting shock effect. The other symptoms have got better and I found that exercise helps alot by the way such as swimming, cycling.
Bad Posture and stress and alcohol seems to make matters worse, though I don't take drugs, so do not know if this can effect it. It's the nervous system so I guess they could do. I hope this helps as reading some of your posts have helped me.
I found that vitamin b complex and b 6 can help this. Take 3 of each to start out for 1 week. Then take two of each for 3 wks. And see if it starts helping the shocks go away. For the back. Take glucosamine chondroitin with mms the same way. Hope it helps you. And pray for healing through Jesus Christ our lord. I had the same things.. G od save ya.
Hello ..
I am having same symptoms.
At first i should say i had petimal epilepsy until 18 years old.. Then this stopped but i had depression treatment for a long time with meds. Basicly after epilepsy ends and started not to be detected on any measurement method I had spasms on my muscles between "sleep and awakening"..
After 40 i left all meds.. Meanwhile these spasms ended .... about 6 years ago these electric impulses started generally between sleep and awakening.. I feel like i had an electroschock through all my body and a pressure on my chest then i wake up sweating. I am still a dynamic person.. But this shock like feeling effects me a lot. This happens generally when i do not sleep enough.. And if i sleep long like 10 hours each day this doesn't repeat so intensly.. But still sometimes i feel like there is a electric charge on my body on some part of muscles generally around belly part and chest moving randomly but no strong shock sense between sleep and awakening.
My doctor told me it was from running on the treadmill which I have always done every day followed by weights. My electric shocks became so bad that a few almost caused my knee/elbow to dislocate. Some would cause the book I was reading to fly across the room. I take a very high dose of Effexor. That has got to be it. Im gonna cancel my $6,000 neurology exam, thanks
I too take Effexor XR and the electrical shocks occur with me whenever I don't take it. the electrical shocks are part of the withdrawal. However, I am now getting the shock impulses even when I take my Effexor regularly. So I am thinking about the possibility of the potassium defiency as with the woman above.
Hi, I am getting these electrical shock feelings too but in my chest feet and legs. It is 4:00 AM and they are keeping me up. It's really scaring me. Have you found any answers? I am going to the Dr next week . Hope you are feeling better. Thank you
some of it is from stress, some of it is from meds or getting off of them but the main culprit is Anxiety.
I have had this same problem. I was on lexapro and got off it so tried again to take it and same thing
happen. so quit takingi it and waiting to see if it happens again.
