I hope someone can help me out. I have just gone thru a bad bout with insomnia. I have been on quite a few medications thru the last 4 years. The insomnia came about just as I was comming down with some type of bacterial infection. The doctor put me on cipro. I have been on it for about 5 days now. Yesterday was very bad, evey time I walk i get these "shocking" feelings thru my head and body. I am also suffering from bad back problems and have been on everything from fentenyl, percocet, and I am comming off of a few weeks of methadone. I have been off the metadone for about 3- 4 weeks now, and the doctor has put me on Gabentin. I was to take it 3 times a day, but could not tolerate it ,so he told me just take it at night for now. I feel like i am going to crawl out of my skin on some days. This whole feeling of getting the "electric shock feeling" is very scary.I hope someone out there may have some type of an answer for what this might be. PLEASE HELP.

I am glad I ran across this site.  I have been having the same shock feelings.  It sounds like it is the anti-d meds.  I just got off mine and this starts.  I also feel like my jaw is tight.  I have been getting the weird shock feelings in my head, teeth, eyes, and body.  They don't really hurt but are very strange and make me nervous.
I am not on anti d meds...while I did have the electric shocks while on a very strong anti d med...epival...usually reserved for epiletic patients! the electrical shocks woke me up at night they were strong and I was told it was "all in my head." NO KIDDING.Anyway, not on meds now and this electric is all in my body just before I go to sleep or am totally relaxed. No reason. there simply is no reason.
Omg have these feelings too and i notice that it gets really bad if i forget my paxil. It is the worst feeling ever. very hard to explain the feeling....but just. shock like feeling through the body, usually feel it.in my head first. sux sux sux!!
Hi there.Im having exactly the same problems and I am also on Paxil but only occasionally take Xanax. this has been happening to me for about two months now and its frightening and horrible. I would out it down to the Paxil. IF anyone has more info on this please pop me a mail. Id really like to sort it out. Thanks
Thank you for this. I thought i was losing my mind. At twenty three the ad diagnosed with fibromyalgia was hard then this started and i had no idea why but am off my anti mess too.
I have been on antidepressents for a year now and i have been having shock feelings run from my feet to my head it's very scary can anyone tell me if it ever goes away i just tried to get off the antidepressents but i couldnt do it due to the withdrawl feeling. i'm on 25 mg and i tried dropping down to 10 but the withdraw feelings were so bad i just can quit them i don't know what to do anymore. I tell my doctor things and he just doesn't listen. This all started when i tried to cut my pills in half so what should i do i really need advice. Thank you
I have had these sensations for a year now, some days worse than others. Was told by neurologist it could be migraine or virus. No help at all, take codeine sometimes works to enable me to sleep. Stress makes it worse. Find cutting back on tea, coffee and other stimulants helps enormously. Have now developed frozen shoulder, could it all be connected? Good to hear others know what Im taking about, mainstream medicine doesn't, blessings to you all
It's been happening to me recently as well. I just stopped taking Prozac; going off anti-depressants/anti-anxiety meds seems to be one of the common denominators here.
I googled elextric jolts and this was the first that came up. I have also been having them since I went on Cipro. Did you ever figure out the cause? they scare me to death. I hope one never happens while I am in a meeting as I am a professional woman.
I am only 17 years old and have been experiencing this my whole life how do i stop it!
yes please post as soon as you get a diagnosis. I too am experiencing this electric shock in my whole body. It started last February 2011 , and until now I still experience it . My doctor can't explain what is happening to me. I've been to a lot of doctors and it seems that they don't believe I have this sickness. Some of them told me to go directly to the psychiatrist.
hello fellow suffers, i have now had this electric jolts across my back for about 4months or so and my doctor had ordered a mri, a xray, he looked into my heart as well. (as the jolts were so serve i thought they could be heart attacks) however no diagonisis as yet but i do have some news for fellow suffers of this (whatever it is)i jolted my spine jumping into my office chair, felt this intense pain in my sternem, i took a few panadols and dismissed it as that was dumb but you'll be right, however as time went by the pain grew and grew (over three months) the electric jolts started.(4 months ago)i was taking so much panadol it was getting stupid, so i presented to my doctor whom dissmissed it at first as i had normal movement. after a couple of days off work, the pain had not subsided i knew there was something up so went back, the doctor prescribed tramadol which worked fantistically for about a month then the electric jolts returned. so back to the doctor i went this time he ordered the xrays which showed a wedging of my t7 vertabrae (yep a fracture) then he sent me off to a back specialist whom ordered a mri, no abnomalities were found in the mri although clear wedging of my t7 which had healed itself, so still no diagnosis but the doctor did prescribe me with a drug which has stopped my electric jolts by 95% its call tegretol, my advise is to ask your doctor if that could help you, it has put most of this electric jolt to bed however a little one ever now and again and when the meds get low in my system whooo mummaa so i take tramadol every six hours and the tegretol every twelve. (no more sleep in's though)next step for me is to see another specialist whom should hopefully take it a bit more serious, i have been off work for about six weeksfirstly my doctor, didn't believe me; just another guy with pain in his back, then once the xray was ordered boy did he have to eat humble pie, i have done a little research on this myself and the issue is the back is so complex so i hope this next specialist know what to do.now my work wants a diagnosis, prognosis  or i will lose my job but they(the medical profession) don't know what it is so it looks like that jobs history.and i cant work until its fixed as i work with complex numbers and processes and the down side of these meds is, (may cause sleepiness) i lose my train of thought on these meds as well.i hope this finds you well and good luck with you health issues. and keep at them until your fixed, it 2012 after all.
Thank you for the back information. I suffered a herniated disk about a year ago, but I think my jolts started before I had discoverd this my MRI, but I wonder if that is the cause?
Wow, it seems like my Electric shocks started soon after I started taking Cipro. Mine hit me so fast and go away fast. But it is really sort of freaky. I actually jerk violently for a second. When I get my next refill I am going to read all the fine print that comes with it. Glad to know I am not alone in this strange happening. I am an engineer for a large defense contractor and so far it has not happened while I am in a meeting or presenting, but it does when working at me desk and a lot just as I am falling to sleep at night. Then it wakes me up with a start.
