I am scheduled to have the Novasure procedure this Friday. I've been having heavy periods every 2 weeks and cramping/spotting the other 2. I've also had bad cramps since I had my tubes tied in 2004. I am 36, mother of 3 who is used to very light periods for the last 20 years due to the pill. I too jumped on this surgery option when my dr. mentioned it during my pap as I was doing all my complaining. Actually we discussed both procedures and he personally has had better luck with Novasure (taking effect, stopping the bleeding etc) then the Thermachoice balloon procedure. Actually I was scheduled for last week but the hospital had me down for the balloon...they didnt have the equipment for the Novasure so I left and waited another week on my Dr.s recommendation. I am anxious because I dont know what to expect.

I have this procedure done about 3 years ago. Everything went fine. I don't have periods anymore. But now I am some other health problems that no doctor has been able to figure out. Having a period is a natural process for women to clean out the toxins. What happens to the toxins when you don't have a period? I am wondering if it took 3 years to build up and it is coming out in different ways with the other problems that I am having.

What do you think? Anybody out there that knows what happens when your period is stopped? Where does the toxins in your body go?

Having a period is not necessarily a "natural process" for a woman as we are all different in how we have them and some women have none at all. My grandmother had maybe 2 a year and no ill fated problems came from that. She had 5 healthy children too.

My doctor stated (because i had the same concerns you did about "needing to have a period") that when you ovulate, it sends signals to the uterus to "build up" the lining for the egg. Your ovaries (if you still have them) are still telling the body to do this, just now your body does not have the means to do so. You are still releasing all the appropriate hormones every month so you are not "changing" anything. If we needed to "release toxins" as you stated, then dont you think we would have to have a period while we are pregnant too so these so called toxins dont harm the fetus?

Just a few things for you to ponder. I trust my OB completely and would not have had this done if i felt otherwise. He took about an hour to answer all my questions and concerns and did not usher me like cattle out of his office, but stayed there until i was comfortable that all my questions had been answered prior to scheduling the surgery.

I just had the novasure procedure done yesterday (Fri). The Dr put me on meds beginning Thurs evening and continued until 1hr. before the procedure (antibiotic, meds to soften the uterus, and pain meds). Once I was in the room I was then given nitrous oxide (laughing gas) along with local anesthetic. The procedure was ok..a little painful. He then did a Dand C I guess to eliminate other tissue. Besides being nauseous last night and cramping, I am much better today. Very slight discharge. I havent seen much else. The cramping seems better when I take over the counter meds and I relax. Since it has only been 26 hours since the procedure, I will post again to see what the outcome is. I hope it will be a success story.

I had the surgery done in Nov. 2006 & am still not feeling right.
I have had this tugging sensation since the procedure that will not go away. My Dr. thinks it is nothing to worry about but there are days when it is quite painful & others when it is only midly discomforting. Also, someone mentioned a discharge. Mine has also not stopped but is a steady flow. . . almost worse than the periods before the surgery.
Has anyone had a similar experience. I have not been able to find any info to help & my Dr. is now not so helpful.

Hi!
I had uterine ablation Novasure and Hysteroscopy last Friday (May 11th) under general anesthesia. My doctor is wonderful and told my hubby he got a good burn inside uterus. I had moderate to severe cramping for the first 2-3 days. I have not had any type/color of discharge at all. However, I have a low grade temp, about 99.7 and my lower abdomen is very tender and feel kinda like pressure down there. I had an antibiotic before during and was also sent home on a 5 day antibiotic, so I wouldn't think I have an infection. I put a call in to my doctor to at least put my mind at ease. Every since the first time I urinated after the surgery, my bladder has felt funny.
Now just waiting the call back from my doctor, just thought I'd share my experience with you all.

I had the Novasure procedure in December 2005. I have heavy periods caused by several large fibroids. I was assured I would be back at my desk the next day or certainly within two days. No such luck! I became seriously ill with severe pain, very heavy blood loss and a raised temperature. I was re-examined and found to have infections, which then required me to be on two different antibiotics at the same time for two weeks. I continued to have pain and blood loss for several weeks, and felt really washed out for months afterwards. I'm sure the procedure is ok when used appropriately but I would urge anyone to think twice and make sure they get a second opinion if they have fibroids. By the way, it didn't stop my heavy periods. I would be interested to know if anyone else has had similar problems after having the Novasure procedure.

I am a registered nurse and I had an endometrial ablation (Novasure) in Nov of 2005. I have had excellent results. I used to have periods lasting 7 days, very, very heavy. I could have taken stock out in tampons and pads!! Now, my periods are maybe 3 days long at the most with very minimal bleeding. The only complication I had post op was a UTI from the catheter they inserted. Antibiotics took care of that. Yes, there was a "full" sensation in my pelvic area for a couple of weeks, but after that, I was fine. I would recommend to anyone who is NOT wanting to have more children. They should make you sign a sterilization consent when getting this procedure done. And they are very serious about you not getting pregnant. I have also been told that the Novasure is better than the others because it "covers" your entire uterus, not leaving any areas left un-ablated. Hope this helps anyone who is interested.

I had my surgery Feb 6th 2007. Very mild cramping for a day or two. It's been 3 months and no discharge and NO periods, so far. It's a blessing.

Well it is almost June 1 and it has been 3 weeks since my procedure. I am still bleeding lightly. Enough to use medium pantiliners. I am not sure if this is normal. I am almost due for my period since I had it when the procedure was being done. Has anyone experienced the same? Please help

I had the Nova sure procedure done on May 25, 2007. Today marks 2 weeks post op and I have been experiencing bad abdominal pains in the middle of the night that wake me up. The bleeding after the procedure followed it's natural path of light bleeding, clear fluid, but is now brown and heavy fluid. I called my doctor and told him that I believe that I may have an infection. No such luck on getting antibiotics. They told me to go to the ER. I have a slight fever and I feel like I have been hit by a truck! Funny thing is, during the day, I feel ok. Anyone feel the same?

I had the NovaSure procedure done on May 22, 2007. Had some cramping. But generally felt and feel ok. Biggest concern is still having discharge. Some days just watery, some days it has a brownish tint, then other days it's pink. Not sure if this is normal and don't know how long it will last. Within the last couple of days I've been having a dull, throbbing pain on my left ovary. Should I be concerned? I'm scheduled to go back to the dr. July 10. Should I call them with this concern?

I had Novasure done just over a month ago. I still ovulate as i have my ovaries and that may be the aching you feel. I had the discharge for about 4 weeks and noticed that when i over did it - i would get the pink bloody discharge. Your uterus is a big scabby mess right now and just like when you open a scab on your finger it bleeds, so will this. You are supposed to take it easier for about 4-6 weeks after the procedure because of this.

I have had phenominal results and no period twice! YAY! but i do still get some of the PMS symptoms.

Good luck and take care....
