I turned 40 in Nov. I just had my 1st mammogram Dec 21st. While taking pictures they could have smashed my right breast,as much as possible and never bother me. The very lovely tech put my left breast there and hardly had to turn and I thought oh sh*t this hurts, and I have a high pain threshold. My left boob hurt all day. I git a call back to go in Dec 30th now. I called my OB to find out more info. It is my left breast. When I told her about the pain she thought maybe a cyst or just that one is sensitive but it was odd as an extra pic of the right breast was taken over the left yet the left is what I go back for. I told her that I was told I had dense breast tissue and that I might get a call back which I did. I'm not afraid but I thought c**p this really hurts only 1 of them...why? Who knows and more specified test will tell if it was just tissue or something more.
This has got to be one of the dumbest lines of reasoning I've ever read.
I checked with a holistic doctor who said mammograms just hurt and hardly detect cancer. Thermograms on the other hand do not hurt and can detect cancer faster. Because cancer cells carry more blood. I'm looking into getting a thermogram soon
Wow. This is virtually my exact same experience! However I have no cysts just a different cellular pattern. I decided not to go back in 6 months because if all was fine (and I viewed the ultrasound so I know what she saw), why go through this pain? It didn't hurt while they imaged. It hurts today, the day after. Tremendously.
I am a breast cancer survivor. I've had chemo and radiotherapy. I will be on medication for 10years. Being checked saves lives. Being ignorant is not the answer.
I had a mammogram one month ago and my breasts have been sore. Last night I had to put ice packs on them the pain was so bad. Has anyone experienced this before?
The same thing is happening get to me.
Mammograms are uncomfortable. Some experience more than others and for many different reasons. I'm an X-ray tech and I also started having mammograms earlier than the typical age as I was higher risk for breast cancer. I'd bee radiated in my chest area for lymphoma at the age of 20. The reason your second "call back" mammogram may have hurt more is because they do press outs. There was probably a area of concern and they needed to zero in on this area. They have tools to allow for better compression of this specific area. The better the compression the more tissue is imaged. In order to accomplish this, it requires thus compression to thin out the breast as much as possible. And since you mention concern of radiation, compression also helps reduce dose. id rather the discomfort if it means a better image and em early detection. Factors that can make mammograms more painful or uncomfortable: menstrual cycle, caffeine intake, breast size, Fibrocystic breasts. Along with these factors, a good mammogram includes as much if the chest wall muscle as possible. So yes this is not comfortable. But id take that over a late stage diagnosis of an aggressive breast cancer requiring extensive surgery to remove my breasts and lymph nodes. Now that is pain and a lot of recovery, if you survive it.
I just had the same experience today. I am bruised and she was rough with me. The lady before me complained that it was the roughest one she ever had. This is my first time to bruise.
I had one time yesterday and I woke up last night sweating, zapping, sharp paind achy all over my body and nausous. I feel like i was poisened with radiation
My left breast hurts me really bad and so does my left under arm hurts is that normal
The exact same thing happened to me... I had a suspicious mass and went back for another view on my left breast... It has been tender for over a month. From now on I will request MRI or Ultrasound.
You're nuts! Mammograms ARE painful, especially for women with dense breasts! It sounds like she was getting short-term follow-up. I have been bruised, bleeding, and developed an infection requiring 2 weeks of antibiotics from a mammogram. The technologists are m****s, and the radiologists are obnoxious. I will never go back and do this again!
I too have pain. I had my 1st mammogram 2 days ago. I just turn 50. I don't think I'll go get another one.
Hi
I saw your message I had a mamagram that has hurt me terribly due to the pressure of the plate and radiographer did know how to place my breast down on the plate so now I have pain where she stretch it oh how painful what can I do for it.
