I had recently a terrible experience with a mammography. I had a mammography as a routine exam just because my doctor sent me there. I never had any problems with my breasts, I am a menopausal woman, my breasts are normal, I am a lean person with normal breasts, not big, not very small. I also had some mammographies in my past with minimum pain. My mammogram results were all normal. But this time the pain was unbearable, the technician compressed my breasts too much and even more than a month after I still have shooting pain in my breasts. What I want to know is if the technician is allowed to compress the breasts as much as she wants or has a protocol to follow. Is it specified for the technician on how much to compress the breasts to keep the patient safe? If she compresses the breasts too much, is there any danger for my breasts? for eg. to get a cancer or something else on the crushed breast tissue?
Did you ask if the technician can compress your breasts as much as she wants? Or do they have a protocol which specifies on how much to compress the breasts of the patient to be safe? Who checks on the technician if she does a good job? The Radiologist? Can you have any health problems if the technician crushes your breast tissue? like a tumor or if you already have one, can this procedure to disseminate the cancer cells? Who checks on the Radiologists? The College of Physicians or the College of Radiology?
Yes, THANK YOU!! I'm so tired of the industry blowing off women re: this entire diagnostic process. I've had pain for a week now since mammogram. None of which existed before the mammogram. im quite disappointed in the lack of care & concern for women in general in the entire dingostic process. like a herd of cattle were lined up in the office for the damn thing. & yes this is cumulative exposure to radiation... Over time EVERY year! That totals ALOT of radiation to "prevent" what , cancer?! this is big medicine ppl. I'd love to be involved in designing a gentler screening process if anyone would take this to heart.
I just had mammogram yesterday - she really pulled on breasts to get them situated right on the machine. Next morning when I showered, I got a stinging sensation under both breasts after passing with soapy washcloth. After towel drying off, I looked to see what it was, and there was a red, raw line under each breast at the fold. I've never had any issues with a rash there, and blame it on the tech doing the mammogram. I'm 61 and skin must be thinner, but have never had this happen with any mammogram. Not sure how to treat it to heal
You are a rude and overly sensitive. The cancer could have been genetic for that 70 year old woman and breast cancer does kill.
I had a mammogram a few weeks ago. It was very painful and uncomfortable. My breast has been aching a lot since the mammogram exam. I received a letter 6 days after the exam requesting more images. The tech who took the images did not get all of my right breasts. I requested a copy of all my mammogram images from the last six screenings. I discovered that the current image was being compared to an older one from 2012. this was alarming because the hospital seemed to have misplaced my past mammograms. after a long discussion with the radiology department, I was sent home with a CD which only contained 3 screening images. It gets worst when I arrived home and inserted the CD, nothing was there for viewing. I called that department the next day and the clerk from that department stated maybe it was incorrectly written on the CD. I was transferred to the physician who supposedly interpreted my current mammogram and she encouraged me to come back for a second screening, clinical screening. I do not want to go there again because they seem to be incompetent.
I am with you on this - my very first mammorgram was painful and disfiguring. I wish I would have known there were alternatives beforehand. Thank you for sharing. There has to be a better way!
Can you email me?
Can you email me? When this happen to you? It happened to me in March. This is not O.K to disfigure someone. This board isn't much of a discussion board, more like comment board. No one can really help anyone with just a comment board.
I've had to start wearing a sports bra. My "normal" bras hurt since my mammogram.
I would email to you, but I do not know your email address
I just turned 50 and just had my 2nd mammogram. I worked in a hospital ER for 20 yrs and my first was there. My breast are also dense and it hurts so bad. I had irritation under my left arm pit (that was the reason I finally went). Mammogram came back negative. The pain kicked in two days later from the mammogram. I had to put heat on my nipples, arm pit, chest, and back. It felt like I was in a fight and lost. That was almost three weeks ago and my left breast still hurts. My nipple looks deformed now too. I had to go back in for a sonogram because I found a lump. They did another mammogram and that did not hurt at all. I just had the pain from the original ultrasound. Turns out, the sonogram spotted the lump and I am scheduled for a biopsy with ultrasound guidance. Boy I am so scared. I had no pain at first - just irritation. And now I feel like the lump was squeezed to a head and is bruised. I hope it is noncancerous.
Applying anything hot to a crush injury is a bad idea. Hot cabbage leaves (or any type of hot pack) are likely to increase bleeding from any bruising.
There is nothing special about cabbage leaves or onions or any other vegetable that is used as a hot pack. This is just what people used in the old days because cooked vegetables held a lot of heat that could radiate slowly and be held against the problem area. For situations where a hot pack is actually useful, an electric heating pad or warm gel pak will do just as well.

You are not the only one. I had a physical done at a clinic and I felt very violated. The lady that did the mammogram even displayed anger towards me when I told her she was hurting me. My breasts are still hurting. They look and feel swollen. I even feel heavier after that experience. And I too must wear a bra for support to sleep in because of the discomfort. After reading your complaints, I will file a formal complaint as well and seek legal consultation regarding this incident. (Annie Wednesday 01/04/17)
