Hi, i have been having these for 17 years although i only get about one per year. Its called svt. I have been cleared by cardiologists after heart scans, ECGs and even over night stays in hospital following attacks where the ambulance has taken me in. Never had any other explanation other than its not really dangerous. Great!! However if you Google 'GERD' some of you may find it interesting as I've spent years trying to find out what it is and how to prevent it. X

My first attack was when I was a teenager. Totally out of the blue. Heart beating hard and fast for no reason at all. Lasted maybe 3-4 mins and suddenly one big slow boom ...then another and it seems to be pretty much over. It didn't happen again for a long while. In my twenties it happened onve every couple years.  In my 30's it seemed to increase to once a year.  After 35 it started to occur a couple times a year.  Now I'm 41 and it seems to occur every season and getting worse.  I've developed a kind of panic around it - especially with driving and I think my own fear creats phantom situations where I get my heart racing on my own.  I have always considered it an electrical typs problem - that is how it feels.  Stress test showed nothing. Routine EKG showed nothing. But I got on a UK website about Arrhythmia today and saw SVT (Supraventricular Tachycardia) and I really think that is what is going on.  So I will proceed to see if I can find a doctor to help me pursue this. I wish everyone luck cause I know exactly what you feel.

One more thing to add. I have discovered that if I throw both my hands up in the air the moment I start to sense it coming, then 96% of the time I can catch it and stop it before my heart starts racing. I tend to get some kind of sensation in my lower throat that is connected to this somehow and acts as a precursor to the racing. Thought I'd share.

It's interesting that you ask this. I've had benign positional vertigo since I was at least 13, but it got really bad one time when I was 17. It lasted a couple weeks. Since then I have random short bouts of vertigo, but nothing serious.
I've been getting these episodes with my heart since I was about about 18. I they don't always happen after I bend over. Sometimes they just happen out of nowhere while I'm standing or even just relaxing. I had my heart checked once and they found nothing out of the ordinary. My pulse and blood pressure is never off at the docs and I've never had an abnormal blood test.
I've always assumed they were panic attacks, but they scare me enough to research them.
When I have an episode, it's very sudden. My heart will start racing. If I put my hand on my chest, I can feel it beating fast. My vision will get dark and I'll feel light headed. I've always just laid on my left side, breathing deeply and trying to stay calm by focusing on just my breathing. After about a minute or two, I feel my heart just suddenly go back to its normal rhythm and I'll be fine, only with a slight feeling in my chest like I need to cough that doesn't last long.

I just experienced the hard heart palpitations and googled what I was experiencing from bending over. The bearing down and pushing as if using the restroom made my scary palpitations stop immediately! Wow! Thank you. Seriously, I am amazed. Thank you thank you thank you.

Me too. Have experienced this periodically for years. It happens when I bend over and am not fully hydrated (I think). I think the baroreceptors in the aortic arch pick up on the decrease in blood pressure (from dehydration and compression of the blood vessel from bending over) so they trigger my heart to increase the cardiac output to compensate by beating harder. I have counted my heart rate before and it is not extremely fast it's just really powerful, feels like it is going to pound out of my neck. I tried massaged my carotid the other day and I think it does make it go away. I have not tried the bearing down to stimulate the vagus nerve but I bet that would totally work. It really only happens to me if I have a glass of wine at night (diuretic), then drink coffee in the morning (another diuretic) without drinking water. I think it makes me dehydrated so if I bend over the gravity and low blood volume combined triggers my body to correct the low blood pressure by making my heart pound harder. I usually drink water and within 15 min or so it goes away. Drinking alcohol the night before, coffee in the morning, and then getting on the treadmill would certainly trigger it I think :) Maybe I will get a blood pressure machine to see if my blood pressure is low. I used to worry that it was from low blood sugar but I got a blood sugar tester and my blood sugar was normal. I am leaning towards the dehydration.

Everything went black and I never fell... I have syncope it feel very similar . Then I actually developed sever headache right above my forehead . There's have happens 2 ce this month. Is it worth going to neurologist or cardiologist ?

Same thing happens to me too. I'm on levothyroxine for thyroid. Tends to occur more frequently for me when I'm feeling stressed at work.

I have the same thing. Diagnosed as SVT, {super ventricular tachacardia}. I am currentley on Acebutolo 400mg EOD. The condition send too large of an amount of endorphines to the heart when you stand back up. The electric pathways in your heart cant take them so the electrical signals jump onto other pathways. In my scenario the heart rate will not come back below 140 bpm. Adenocard is used to drop heart rate back to normal. The only way to treat from returning is to have a ablation done.

I had bad spell tonight, this is the 4th spell I've had this month. was taking a powerful antibiotic, thought it may have something to do with it. Second spell was real bad and went to hospital, they did EKG and electrocardiogram and said everything was find. This spell happened almost a week after the anti-biotic though. I had spells similar to this 19 years ago and they said they believed it was from Gerd. I just looked it up and sure enough I ate and drank everything wrong for Gerd just before I went to bed. I think this may have a lot to do with it. I still feel light headed now, these spells like 1 persom wrote tends to effect for about 4 hours after the most intense part.

I am on levoxyl and has happened to me too. But I quit my thyroid meds and it got much worse and I got other issues because I did that. So don't come off unless the doctor says.

Are you on thyroid meds? Also ck Vit d levels. GERD has gone along with the thyroid problems.
To me it helps I am not alone with syncope . Scary for sure.
I did pass out one night and ended up with a concussion and twelve stitches in my forehead.

Yes I have been diagnosed with Vaso vagal syncope, mine is triggered from plane flights, blood, or surgery, nausea or really stressful situations. I tried the pushing, didn't really help. I will try the throwing up my arms next time. GERD is also a problem. I worry every time it happens. I have fallen and hurt myself, because sometimes I am not lucid. Hate it! My grandfather, my uncle, and my mom also have it.
