Good to know I am not the only person who has what seems to be water coming out of my ears. To be honest I always thought this was normal. My ears have always been like this. If I go to a night club or rock concert the next morning I just have a ton of water in my ears. It wasn't til I mentioned to a friend how much I hate the next morning from a concert that all this water is in my ears. Then it came to my attention that I was alone in this.
I have asked a few doctors about it but never gotten an answer. I actually very exceptional hearing. I can hear things others don't seem to notice. For instance I once was laying in bed on the top floor in our home and was hearing this faint rattle. No one else heard. I finally found the culprit. A glass was sitting on top of the fridge in the basements and making a faint rattle. I can also hear a cell phone ring even in the loudest of rock concerts.
I don't know if somehow the 2 are related but as a music lover I tend to just let it be, because I am quite happy with my hearing.

iv had it all my life it stinks in it itches every day all day it will never go away i think it a birth mark that is open an get this my husband has one on his nose the same effects. ant that crazy an i find it to be embarrassing cuz i dont no if outher people can smell it or when there kissing my ears can they smell it it suck an no one nos why......... its just there!
%-) I also had the same problem for about 6 months. I went to a specialist and he described Fluocinolone Acetonide Oil 0.01% ear drops. Five drops twice a day. He told me that my ear canal was very dry and very clean (I was very proud of myself). He asked me if I used q-tips and I told him yes, very often. He told me STOP, he told me that that was the worst thing I could do to my ear canal. He said, you have cells that produce oil to keep your ear canal moist and you have dried them out. You need the oil, the oil keeps the ear canal moist, it helps your sounds wave and it also helps produce wax which the wax protect the inner ear, when you use the q-tips, you push the wax into the inner ear and that’s when you start having ear infections. It made a lot of sense to me. I have been using this ear drops since Thursday night and I have been able to sleep like a baby. No more waking up, no more itching and no more fluid coming out of my ears. I am using the oil and I have stop using the q-tips, He also told me that if I still feel water in my ears after a shower, for me to put a Kleenex in the entry of the ear canal and just tilt the head over. He also told me that once I finished the treatment and if it still persist, then I killed my cells to where it won’t produce oil anymore and I would have to use some kind of oil (baby oil, tree oil, olive oil, etc.) for the rest of my life. My advice to you is to stop using q-tips and ask your doctor to describe you the following oil drops. It’s a start. Good Luck!
Wow, great advice... and sounds reasonable.. I went to the Dr's as well to get my ears sprayed out.. (I kept thinking there must be a bug or something in my ears to make them that itchy), and she said my ears are the cleanest she's ever seen... so, I also use Q tips, just to itch my ears, and to absorb all the water in the morning.. I will try the advice of oil for a while to see if that works.. I think it might, and everything your Dr said, make perfect sense to me. thank you for this advice..

I'm constantly cleaning my ear out when I'm listening to my music the vibration makes it itch. I dont have earwax, just this clear fluid that is plain annoying.
Hello everyone i don't think it's been said in this forum yet but it defiantly has been hinted at. The fluid in most of your ears is due to the fact that you have an infection and your ear is trying to fight it. The infection you have is called CANDIDA (an over growth of yeast) candida eats sugar so stop eating sugar because you will continue to feed it. Do not take antibiotics because that will not kill the yeast but the good bacteria fighting the yeast. You should however take probiotics. This does not clear up quickly especially if you have had this for years. It takes about several months. Search the web for extra help because there are a lot of candida diets out there.
I have the same problem..but it only to my right ear. I have no idea but somehow it just started hurting like two days ago..first it was liquidy then it stop now it went on again..every night when i try to sleep on my right side it hurt the ouside of my ear but when i sleep on the other side the water in my right ear builds up.. Oh mAn i wish this well go away its hurt my ears really bad..
Hello back Jmbh1988. Yes, infection was mentioned in the beginning of this discussion.... If there is an odor, then yes, it could be infection, but the majority of us just have clear clean fluid leaking, with no odor. The one thing that no one has mentioned is (believe it or not), leaking from the brain.. lol I did a search and saw that that is possible with some, but probably a slim chance, but there is a term for this.. That requires surgery.. If I went to my Dr and asked him to check that out, he would laugh at me and refuse.. I am taking Alma's advise and cleaning out my ears with a kleenex, no Q=tip and adding a few drops of oil to keep it from itching. Its like my ear drum is out of balance.. too much water at night, not enough during the day. Mine has cleared up a little bit.... I use t tree oi in mine..
to see if it is CSF use gauze and see if a "halo's sign" appears,
I have had the same problem for over 10 years. Just like the others have been saying, the fluid only gets worse when you try to wipe it out with a q-tip. The only way to make it stop for me is to leave it alone. I also told my PCP about the problem, and he said "It's nothing." But it is not "nothing". It is a medical issue, and I do not understand why nobody has gotten a clear answer to address this. Somebody above suggested taking allergy medicine. I have been taking allergy medicines for years, on a daily basis, and it does not help. I am going to talk to as many doctors as I can, and I will re-post a clear answer if and when I get one. I don't use headphones at all, and have not for years, if that helps. I know that it only makes the problem worse ( I know it did for me) so, I just don't use headphones at all.
Well, I wish you much luck... and let us know what you find.. Its pretty sad when no one can give us a clear answer, as its clearly a common problem.. Mine started a few years ago and has come and gone, back and forth for whatever reason.. I can't figure it out at all.. again, good luck to you....
It is probably an infection or allergy. Very often it can be fungus - candida or aspergillosis (even though the GPs either don't know or don't care to find the underlying condition). Try Flucanozole or Trisporal. Avoid allergens (like wheat or dairy) I have used diluted Hydrogen Peroxide with distilled water - dropped into the ear and leave for about 10 min. Drain and then the itch goes away.

IIH which I had cause headaches and fluid to leak out of ears some time without headaches it can occur. The temporal bone is worn down causing fluid to leak from the skull into the ear canal. Doctors at University of Chicago told me this information.
I am having the same problem but my just started happening yesterday..is there something wrong with my ear. and it happens during night also....HELP
