A whole bowl of nectarines disappeared when we had our dog Snoopy. She LOVED fruit. I even accused my stepson of eating them until I found the pits BEHIND the couch.

My old dog steals bread off the counter when we're not home and hides the wrappers under the bed in the spare bedroom. It's like a binge eater's hidey hole down there.

My dog, while a world class food thief, garbage picker, is also a herder of all other animals and people. I think it's the border collie Aussie shep mix that does it. When we lived in Ohio, we were right near a "dog park". Sierra was so funny. SHe would start running around the other dogs to get them to chase her, and soon she'd be racing around them while they ran in a circle inside of her (think of a track, with one lead dog ahead on the outside lane). She'd get them all corraled into one big dog pack, then stop running, and look at me as if to say "Look what I just did! Aren't you proud?"
She still will not come into the bedroom to sleep unless we are both in bed. She follows us around at whatever hour each of us gets home , and then she sleeps for a while by the door entrance to "guard" us. Like she got her flock in for the evening. It's pretty cool, really.
When people come over to visit and we are sitting outside, as soon as someone gets up she follows them until they sit back down with us. When everyone is sitting around the patio, she lies down.
While growing up, we had a sheepdog that would let my sister and I braid it's fur. It was also a food thief, and once stole a whole raw roast off of the kitchen counter where my mother left it to thaw. It ate the whole thing, other than one piece of fat in the middle. I am sure it would have gotten to that had we not arrived home when we did.
