Hello all,
I only got through the first few pages so I apologize if this has already been covered but;
I've been having the exact same thing for 8 days straight, it's really starting to mess me up to be honest...
I'm pretty sure I know whats causing it for me tho; How are your sleeping patterns?
Mine are terrible. With myself I'm almost certain now that this problem has been cause by sleep deprivation.
I've just paid to download a 60 min hypnosis mp3, I won't post links yet cause I don't want this post to look like I'm spamming the thread..
I haven't tried it yet so it may be no help whatsoever but I'm so desperate to sort this out that I thought I'd give it a shot.
It may be useless but I'll certainly be giving it a shot over the next few nights & I'll let you know how I got on with it.
I hope your all okay, I'm really struggling with this so you have my full sympathy...
Also to all who have replied with a response along the lines of "it's natural, you will feel sleepy after a large meal"
Sorry guys I know your trying to help but please stop being so patronizing; this isn't the need to have a little nap after a large roast dinner. We've all had that feeling & would be aware if this was the issue but this is totally different. It's a complete crash, the body shuts down, it's not drowsiness; it's a complete wipe out
B-vitamin deficiency. Boost your melatonin levels with B-12 spray from Dr. Mercola. Mercola video on B-12 states B-vitamin is absorbed in the tongue. Boost serotonin levels with raw leafy greens after supper. Its a sleep therapy. You're suffering from metabolic syndrome. Do the therapy till you feel better. Good luck.
Hi Corbetty I found your posts after developing this instant sleep problem myself. Did you ever find a solution?
I searched this post because I get VERY sleepy after eating anything. For example I've just eaten a salad consisting of leaves, celery, carrot, beetroot, and radish. I'm still actually feeling quite hungry, but my eyelids are extremely heavy and I almost feel like I've been drugged with sleeping medication. This is happening increasingly, as is the fact that when I get hungry, I get a very short temper and feel like I am about to pass out... it's almost verging in vertigo. I though I might be diabetic, but no... I have a very healthy reading of 4.2, so it's not that.
I can't go on like this, but am at a loss to know what could be causing this.
One thing I've found that is a big factor is how one combines food. It's covered in the book Fit for Life, though was researched much earlier in the early part of the 20th century by a doctor who's name escapes me (I'll find the book and post the name later). Anyhow, eating starches that break down in alkaline with proteins that digest with acid ends up in a neutralized mess, and then it takes a lot of effort to digest, and you get tiredness. Try it some time one way and the other, and you'll see.
William Hay was the person I was referring to. It's called the Hay diet. You can google it.
Some basic tenets are: Eat starches and proteins in separate meals. Eat fruit on an empty stomach. Veggies (not starchy ones) can be eaten with either.
It's very simple and will also result in weight loss if you are overweight, even if you don't reduce your meal sizes, as it metabolizes better. It's really easy to see if it works or not: Just follow the above for a week, then have a big meat and potato (or some other starch) meal, and see what happens!

1 out of 13 americans have type 2 diabetes or high blood sugar and many dont know they have it,i found out i had type 2 and one of the many symptoms i had was wanting to sleep after i ate and it did not matter what it was such as just a piece of toast.,have your blood sugar tested at least 2 hours after you have eaten.
If you feel sleepy after eating, this may be a reaction on the types of food you just ate. It could also mean that you have a health problem. There are different degrees of being tired. Some people feel the need for a nap after they've eaten lunch. Sometimes, some people are so tired they can't keep their eyes open no matter when or what they eat. If his happens, it is more likely to be a sleep disorder or something to do with health.
I have been dealing with this issue for the past year and it really is debilitating. I can't
drive within 2 hours of eating and have to plan for a nap after every meal; sometimes a 2 hour nap.
I am surprised I still have a job sometimes. My doctors changed some meds - that didn't help; I went in for a sleep disorder test - that showed nothing
but cost me a fortune; I did food allergy tests and a food elimination diet - that did nothing. Finally
I had a full adrenal gland work up and a blood glucose test. jackpot!! So now I at least have a direction.
I am on a pretty restrictive diet right now - no dairy, grains, legumes, sugar, rice - and it is helping. I won't say
it has been easy but it has helped tremendously. I read a book called the Paleo Solution by Robb Wolf. That gave me some tips for dealing with my insulin resistance issues that were discovered through the glucose tolerance test. I also take a supplement called gymnema and chromium before each meal. They help to control the insulin levels when the food hits my system. I am also currently working with a doctor to help support my adrenal glands and get them functioning again. We haven't found the magic bullet there yet but I am hopeful that we are nearly there. This is my story and maybe it will help someone else. Maybe not too. If you are dealing with this issue, I truly feel for you and wish you luck in finding your answers. and for all of the condescending people out there who keep telling us to quit eating too much, please do us all a favor and keep your mouth shut. You have no idea what you are talking about and are of absolutely no help.
I am so sorry to here that. But I found a diet that excludes sugar and dairy. I am not sure if you are familiar with the Alkaline Diet. What they do is balance the acid-alkalinity of your body. It is considered that sugar is acid forming and as much as possible avoid it. They even have a food chart that would tell you what is alkaline and what is acid. I just thought that might help you. :)
I just got a lot of improvement in terms of getting sleepy after dinner each night, by taking Alacer "Electromix" (Potassium, Magnesium, Manganese, Calcium, Chromium) packets which you put in water to make sports drink, basically. It's hot down here in Florida and I was probably low on Potassium.

HI Sandy!
I don't know if I'm going to be a lot of help. But maybe if you can cut down with your acids and eat lots of greens. In that way you can detoxify and somehow correct whatever it is might be the problem.
I also at times can be overtaken by an extreme absnormal heavy tiredmess - for a awhile I took Dr. Uno digestive pills - this worked well. hope this helps
