hi, almost a year ago my cousin shot my tooth with an airsoft gun and shattered it in half, after that i got extreme pains in my tooth and gums above it,also i had extreme sensitivity to cold, i went to the dentist and he made a mold of the tooth and basically fixed it with a plastic like substance. now almost a year later i looked in the mirror and saw that i had what looked like a zit on my gums, at first i thought it was because i wasnt brushing that high up on my gums, but i looked it up online anyway, and here i am. i am wondering if i should be worried and go to the dentist, the only real pain my tooth is in is when i put pressure on the gum above the tooth ( my right very front tooth ) but other than that it really doesnt bug me all that often. i am wondering if this zit will go away or just keep coming back? and do i need a root canal? i wanna avoid a root canal like the plague because of all the stories ive heard about how painful they are, so is it possible for me to just get it pulled and put a fake one in or something?

See Your dentist ASAP. It sounds like you have a dental abcess, a potentially painful and dangerous condition that could get worse unless you get rid of the cause of the infection....which is usually the nerve of the tooth. Popping the pimple could provide temporary relief because the puss that has been trapped at the apex of the tooth is finally released from the gums into your mouth (gross). This condition needs to be fixed by either performing a root canal treatment or extraction of the tooth. Antibiotics alone will not fix the problem. I have a small bump too , i just got put on antibiotics. however when i got home it started leaking on its own. i used a little water/listerine. the dentist office i go to is closed today, but the emergency doctor on call was the one who prescribed me the anitbiotics. im suppose to have a root canal on the tooth where the bump is located. ugh im nervous but goodluck to everyone on here! PLEASE take care.

I had a bump similar to this come up next to a tooth Ive had a root canal procedure on. If I have had a root canal on that tooth already that wont solve my "bump problem." Any suggestions?
Also, Ive been having horrible sinus infections since the bump reared its ugly head. Could this bump be linked to my sinus infections?
Please help!

I'm so relieved to have found this site.  I've had a swelling on my gum which occasionally develops into a pimple that bursts by itself, for over 6 months  now.  It's just above a crown on a tooth which has already had root canal treatment.  My dentist has taken an xray, but says she doesn't know what it is.  She put me on a course of antibiotics, no change.  My hygenist has also taken a look, and says it's not gum disease!  I've been waiting for a hospital appointment for months.

It's not painful and not spreading, as you all say, but I'm constantly aware of it and I think it's creating a visible swelling just above my lip.  Very frustrating, guess I just have to keep pestering the dentist.

Good luck everyone with the same symptons!

Hi,

I need some guidance/advise.

3.5 years back I got a root extraction because it got infected, there used to some pus/fluid/blood (bad smell and taste) come out all the time. It was already root canal. So the doctor decided to take that out since it was infected. After the extraction everything was good, the pus stopped to come.

Now after 3.5 years, I'm again having the same problem at the same spot, it is only the gum though this time since the tooth was extracted. The pus comes out every now and then, and I feel that the gum is getting swollen, when I press the gum, the pus comes out. There is no pain though. I asked my doctor, he thinks that the bone has been infected now, and we need to clean by pulling the gum and stitch it back but he's not 100% if that will fix it as this is rare according to him. But he's positive that this should fix it. I'm really scared now and don't want to go through this surgery.

I'm already taking Amoxicillin 500mg.
Is there a medicine that I could take to cure this completely without going through the surgery? Please advise - I would really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!!

Hey. I'm a 17 year old female. My very last baby tooth is really wiggly although 1 root seems to be jammed in there. My adult tooth started coming through months and months ago but grew BEHIND the baby one. Gradually it has moved forward and for about a month the gum directly around the baby tooth has become swollen. A few nights ago I started playing with the baby tooth trying to get it to come out but it started to get sore and the next day I was sure I had bruised my gum from playing with the tooth for too long. Today I noticed that the bruise was still there and around dinner time I realized that the gum above my baby Canine tooth was swollen and it felt like there was a lump. When I got home I looked in the mirror and noticed that it was a dark colored lump with a bit of white in it. Naturally, I pricked it and pus and blood just poured out. It was SO disgusting! I had NEVER seen anything like it. The main reason I was so freaked out is because it was on my gum; where as if it were just a boil on my skin it wouldn't be a big deal. I don't know what it is but my mum said it could be an infection in the roots of my baby tooth, because I played with it and may have allowed bacteria to get in. Hopefully it will go away. Luckily I booked an appointment to see the dentist prior to this lump. I hope I can find out what it is.

I JUST RECENTLY HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME ON A TOOTH THAT HAS A CROWN ON IT. IS YOURS STILL BOTHERING YOU? i AM DOING SAME AS YOU, BUT WONDERED HOW LONG IT WOULD TAKE. THE TOOTH JUST TOUCH, NOT SORE OR HURTING - GUM JUST SWELLS A LITTLE AND WHEN i PRESS ON IT i GET SAME SUBSTANCE YOU DID, FOLLOWED BY BLOOD.
WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR INPUT. i WAS GETTING WORRIED BUT GUESS I'M OK. i HAVE A DENTAL CLEANING IN 2 MONTHS AND UNLESS I GET A BAD TOOTHACHE i'LL WAIT - NOT MUCH MONEY FOR DENTAL WORK RIGHT NOW :p

I had the most weird problem out of all. I had my root canal about 16 years ago which left my tooth black and ugly. So about ten years ago I applied a comestic cap which was successfuly fitted over my tooth. Six years later I felt the same pus feeling on my gums and it was increasing day by day so I checked with my dentist and he recommended the surgery. He told me that there is a cyst formation which is like bacteria eating the bones of my gums and will spread to all over the mouth if not taken care of. I had the successful gum surgery which removed all the cyst out of it. After that there was no pus sighted uptil now. Its been 3.5 years that i had my pus surgery and the pocket is back on the same place. I am very concerned that how it reappeared. I am really worried about it. Can you explain why it reappeared?
