My nephew had a lump on his forehead all his life. It was small when he was young but grew as he entered puberty. His mom had him evaluated by a doctor that said it could be removed with no problem. A plastic surgeon did the operation. Now my nephew can't move his eye brow on that side, he has a scar and the lump is coming back.

BTW the lump was described as a benign tumor, non-cancerous.

I would be careful if you decide to get surgery.

Sometimes i just want to take a hammer to my forehead so someone will finally have no choice but to help me! This has impacted my life horribly. :-(

I have insurance and that covered most of it. My doc said, this thing is not normal so he wrote it up so insurance would cover. My out of pocket was about $300- $500 overall. I don't remember exactly. Well worth it though. Once you find someone to perform the surgery just ask them if they will be able to get insurance to cover it. Also, my doc offered to do it in his office with only local anesthesia or at an outpatient facility where he would put me under using "twilight" - the stuff you dentist might use. It was my choice with the "in-office" option being a little cheaper.

I have had a lump on my forehead for about 5 years now and it has bothered me more then words can describe. I hate looking at it  and I have no idea what the heck it is. I can sort of move it around inside my skin slightly. It hurts at times and I also get a redness around the area frequently. I would be so thrilled if I could get some answers. This site hopefully will help me.

My doctor is a cosmetic plastic surgeon. I am in Columbus Ohio. He was referred to me by my Dermatologist. My bump was on my forehead, right of dead center, about 1 centimeter in diameter and 1/2 centimeter in height - very noticable. In a previous post I mentioned the good doc's name and website but yahoo removed it! Sorry.

Hello All,

I first noticed a bony growth on my forehead (just below hairline) when I was 17. I was in a car accident when I was 7 years old and suffered a concussion but not sure of the exact location and never officially confirmed that it was the cause of the growth.  Dr. surmised that it could have been though.  It slowly increased in size as I aged. I too had numerous scans which all concluded that it was a bony cyst on the exterior of my skull and nothing to worry about. By age 27, I became self-conscious of it as it was becoming more noticeable. I spoke to numerous Dr.s and plastic surgeons regarding a procedure to remove it. I settled on a surgeon at the University of Penn (great hospital). The Dr., who also specialized in reconstructive bone procedures was fantastic. However, he did explain that it could grow back again but would merely be a cosmetic concern.  He made the incision above the location of the cyst (in my hairline) so that you would not see any scar.  The procedure went extremely well.  He shaved the bone cyst away and the procedure was covered by insurance.  I am now 34 and there are no signs of it returning.  My best advice would be to get multiple opinions and do NOT settle for just any surgeon if you choose to remove it.  I was very uncomfortable with the first 2 surgeons as they had never performed a procedure similar to mine but were more than happy to try.  Seek out the best Dr. you can.

I have it too, I believe being put on Steroids (prednisone) may have caused it.. At first I thought it might be plasmacytoma of bone but after further reading I've come to the conclusion it is an osteoma, which is a bony tumor; it is an extra growth from the membranes of the skeletal bones of the body. Commonly found on the facial and skull bones, an osteoma is often a non-symptomatic, noncancerous, and benign tumor.  Decide for yourself it could be benign or cancerous....get them checked!!

I have found this site to be very helpful and informative.  Someone shared a YouTube vid recently that showed the removal of one of these osteomas which I found very interesting.  The doctor who performed the procedure is in NYC and his office was also very helpful in making a referral for me here in Southeast Michigan.  I met with that doctor this past Friday and he assured me that the procedure would be covered by insurance and told me that he would remove them.  He has ordered a catscan first so that he can see how deep they are.  I am 62 year old man and noticed one about 10 years ago.  It's always bothered me and people always notice it.  I'll make the rest of you feel better who only have one.  I can now count about 13 of these things in the same part of my forehead and back in to my hairline.  Most of them are very small but the doctor told me that he would remove them all.  I'll report back in as the procedure takes place.
