To kinda help people out, my dad about 10 years ago developed a bump on the top of his forhead. While working, he had a seizure and ended up in the hospital and found out that the bump was a malignant tumor and had to have surgery. Not to scare you guys, but this is stuff that shouldn't be set aside. My 4 month old son has a bump behind his right ear, and I have an appt coming up for him to have that checked.

I have also experienced a lump behind my ear and and one either side on the back of my upper neck. I've had them for a year or two and never thought it would be a cause for alarm. The neck ones have receded but the ones on my neck are still prominent. I have now lately experience a hardness on my left nipple on the areola or something. I was wondering if this was related at all. Also i am kind of petrified that it is related to cancer :S . I have also heard that lymph nodes can be inflamed when you are suffering from a cold or throat infection and lately for the past couple of years (about when i had swollen lymph nodes) i have had a persistent cough lasting for weeks after i contract a normal cold. if u have any info at all, please help :D

Same thing here. About 10 years back I noticed a small bump behind my left ear. My moms best friend is a doctor and one night while she was visiting I asked her about it. She told me as well that it was a swollen gland. It may or may not go back to it's normal size. I too have never had any ill effects or problems with it. Yes I know that it is there but I usually just forget about it. I believe it appeared when I had a streped throat many years back.

Sounds like Acoustic neuroma: A noncancerous tumor that grows on the nerve traveling from the ear to the brain. Hearing loss, vertigo, and tinnitus can be symptoms.
Mastoiditis: Infection of the mastoid bone, just behind the ear. Mastoiditis was once a common complication of untreated ear infections.

I think I can help:

I have these too! mine are painful when they appear and move sightly. The very first time I experienced it I thought it was either a huge zit or a fly bite because of the sore on it.

I experienced it off and on for about a year before I had my dad look at it. He didnt like it so we visited the doctor. Since my blood counts, mainly white cells, were normal, we knew I didn't have any type of infection. So, we discussed my entire medical history and other symptoms I experienced.
- itchy, red, and flaky/scabby scalp (previously written off as eczema)
- the lymph nodules behind my ears, as well as under my armpits.
- frequent and severe migraines

He refered me to an ENT because he just didn't know. The ENT put some sort of camera up one nostril. Once he was finished he asked me, "does your scalp ever break out?" and I told I had eczema, so it was always broken out. Turns out the scalp is a symptom of what was going on. Do I ever get severe migraines? 'yes, everyday.' He told me he could solve all three of my problems in one:

The cause of my issue is that some of the blood vessels in the back of my neck and head are for some undetermined reason, enlarged. I don't fully understand what all the doctor told us, but what i do know is that these blood vessels are the reason for my migraines ( ***this post is edited by moderator *** *** web addresses not allowed***). Also, there is some kind of fluid I have too much of.I don't remember which fluid unfortunately, nor do I remember the connection it has with the enlarged blood vessels. I can ask again and reply later. But this fluid is used by the body for flushing out "intruders." It caused my lymph nodes to "think" they had become infected themselves. The fluid was too dense in the lymph nodes, and in order to try and get rid of some, my body treated it like an infection. When you have an infection, this fluid passes through the lymph nodes. So, even MORE of the fluid would fill my lymph nodes. Vicious cycle. This same fluid caused the sores and itching on my scalp.

This is probably a bit confusing because there are pieces of information I don't remember. Sorry! But what they did for me is prescribe depakote (usually taken in larger doses for seizures). This medication shrinks the size of the blood vessels in the neck/head. As long as I take it regularly, I WILL NOT get migraines, my scalp is clear, and the lymph nodes are no where to be heard from. But if I slip up on the timing  of the dose, first my scalp itches and breaks out, then I will get a few migraines (or, God forbid it, a multiple-day extended one), and if I go long enough without, the lymph nodes swell.

I really hope that this brings at least a little light to the subject. I won't hesitate to have my doctor explain it to me again if anyone wants me to. Just let me know.

I hope that some one can relate to what I'm saying kinda scared

I have the lump behind my ears, but do not experience the flaky scalp or migraines. So i'm guessing my thing would be a bit different, the lumps are extremely solid and almost feel like bone, i previously had one on the back of my neck which was a bit softer, should i be worries or just monitor it to see if it gets worse?

Hi! So I'm just here to offer some insight on another possibility. It could just be a simple after effect of having your ears pierced. You generally wouldn't realize it right off the bat, but after piercing your ears the skin on the inside can "keloid" I think it's called and pressurize in your ear; leaving a hard ball on the inside of your ear. So it could just be skin. Hope this helps and I hope I find the answer to my bumpy ear. (:
