Did anyone check for shingles?
I HAVE A SMALL BUMP BEHIND MY EAR, AND I HAVE HAD IT THERE FOR 6 YEARS NOW. ALWAYS WONDERED WHAT IT COULD BE, IT WASNT UNTIL RECENTLY I STARTED GETTING LITTLE SMALL SHARP ACHES FROM THAT DESIGNATED AREA, TURNS OUT IT IS A BRAIN TUMOR. MY DOCTOR THINKS ITS FROM MY CELL PHONE. IM ONLY 31. IM DUE TO UNDERGO SURGURY SOON.

Hi There,
check "SHINGLES" aka Herpes Zoster. (No not like the STD Herpes..)
FYI - I had similar symptoms.
- lump behind right ear, and some smaller ones travelling down my neck a bit
- sensitive right top and back of head (e.g. even touching/running hand through hair)
- sometimes sharp/dull headache like feel at top of head, back of head (right side) and even on the right side of my right eye
- right eyelid muscle felt tired and ached when blinking
- also noticed two small blisters (which i noticed was different from a pimple - both were somewhat closish to my eye on my right side)
Diagnosis:
- SHINGLES.
Look it up. on wedmd. can be contagious so stay away from people - especially young children and older folks.
Resolution:
- talk to doc s/he'll prescribe some anti-viral meds (e.g. apo-valacyclovir - oral meds taken 3 times a day for 7 days)
- supposed to get on meds on first 72 hours else it could become something more permanent / damaging.
Forgot to mention... the reason the lumps are behind the ear and down the neck is because Shingles manifests in the nerves and is then transmitted to the skin.
So it follows the nerve lines connected to your lymph nodes.... causing those to swell.
PS: if it's not Shingles you have, you should also check whether you bumped your head. there are pressure points even on the forehead that if knocked can cause your lymph nodes to also respond causing the lumps.
Good luck for those reading this! :)
I am having the same problem as most of you. I did some research, and this could be a very serious condition called cholesteatoma formation. Google it. It can cause your skull to break down and cause brain infections, all kinds of things! I will not have health insurance for 5 more months, and when i went to the ER about this, the doc told me I had a fungal/yeast infection in my ear and gave me ear drops. The lump behind my ear is fairly large, and I told him, but he basically pretended he didn't see it. I'm going to go ahead and pay for a regular doctors visit asap. Good luck to you all and God bless!
